"A pump in a fountain pumps 109 gallons of water a second through a 6.23-in diameter vertical pipe. How high will the water in the fountain go?"

fuck me i've never taken physics and i'm over a decade out from the last time i took anything in math. the one text they could find for this course just had to be written for engineers.

i can get a velocity from those numbers if i look up the density of water, then a specific gravity but this POS text has not explained nearly enough for students in a relatively basic technical program to work this shit down to 'how high will it go'.

oh sure, by all means list only the basic form of an equation and then list all example solutions in single lines using unexplained derivations of the equation with ALL the unit conversions and substitutions packed into half a dozen nested parentheses with a square root over the whole thing. fucking great.

this fuckass book on instrument measurements i'm trying to work through. it's apparently written for people with engineering or physics backgrounds, and is badly written on top of that. tends to throw out numbers for things without any labels, forcing you to go digging back through the text to figure out where/how it got the values from.

currently on an example problem that doesn't appear to include enough information to solve. i can get an answer that includes a variable but everything up to now has been solid numbers. my instinct so far is someone just forgot something when they put this mess together.

shit wait like half an hour once this dirt brandy gets going and i decide all my old reaction images suck too much to bother posting. gonna be a fucking case study in "everything's a reaction image if you try hard enough".

I thought the poster was cleaning out a house, fashioned the doorknob pipe himself, and that he found the hash in a cupboard. Maybe I'm wrong though.

you are almost correct iirc, the doorknob bubbler was found some with some old hash tucked in a cupboard or something. And of course a lime

for reference

Now compare the velocity of the water to the natural change in velocity that gravity would provide. Gravity pulls objects towards the earth at a rate of 9.8m per second squared. I'm not smart enough to do the math myself, but I can work out HOW to do it to a certain extent.
