So I can compile it on a list to determine where on average 420chan is politically. Use whatever political compass website you want, just google it, they're easy to find.

Man, I got much farther to the libertarian left throughout the years. I used to be libertarian center back when I didn't know better.

Plantation owners rather burned down the fields than gave them to the working class. Can't see how that's Stalin's fault

It was more "stop swinging your dick in public or get gulag'd for a year". Communist party took culture maybe bit too seriously but they were right about keeping basic necessities as the primary issue and identity politics as secondary.

My sources include Pulitzer-winner Walter Duranty, historian Mark B. Tauger, and of course Stalin himself through his private letters, diaries, official statements etc. All available online if you cared to educate yourself.

But surely the western media gives honest and accurate view of a communist leader, I mean, would they ever lie about anything on behalf of the owning class? Surely not

I'll take a look later at what this walt durango had to say. And Stalin's own private letters and diaries are kind of a massively biased source, don't you think?

Also, I'm very aware that the liberal media is extremely uncharitable towards leftist governments, but Stalin's School probably doesn't deserve a whole lot of charity considering how bad they collapsed. I'm sure there are much better examples of lefty governments than stalin's low key dictatorship. Although I have to admit that the aesthetics are pretty cool.

Take Trump for example, the bitch has confirmed all his crimes in private, bragged about them even. Of course one could point out that he is retarded, and a smarter evil person wouldn't necessarily lose his facade so easily.
>but Stalin's School probably doesn't deserve a whole lot of charity considering how bad they collapsed.
Soviet Union collapsed because of perestroika, which was a capitalist market reform. People literally marched the streets with pictures of Lenin and Stalin on their signs, before the military and KGB did the coup.
>I'm sure there are much better examples of lefty governments
Cuba maybe, but even they got a huge bump from Soviet Union, and suffered a depression after the fall of Soviets

>Plantation owners

The vast majority of those who resisted collectivization were not plantation owners or kulaks. Collectivization as a policy which triggered peasant insurrection can be attributed to Stalin, who decided to implement that policy. All of the consequences, including permanently retarded agricultural output because of the slackjaw-designed institutional structure of the kolkhozy, flow ultimately to Stalin and the Stalinist bureaucracy.

>It was more "stop swinging your dick in public or get gulag'd for a year".

Complete and total bullshit. Stalin's criminal code criminalized sodomy, in the same way the US criminal code criminalized sodomy up until SCOTUS finally knocked those laws down. Consensual sodomy in the USSR got you a 3-5 year sentence, forcible sodomy got you 5-8.

Fuckin politics, alright, here goes.
To anyone who thinks Stalin is as bad ad Hitler or that he put six trillion babies in a meat grinder every morning, ask yourself about the sources of this data. The most common is the Black Book of Communism, which even the co editors of took offense to. Most of the information on the holodomor came originally from a handful of fascist co conspirators who were so thoroughly and publicly debunked that not even most Americans saw it as anything other than a conspiracy theory during the late forties. Unfortunately the same data that had been laughed at reemerged (using the same sources no less) in the fifties as cold war tensions heightened. For those concerned with the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, Britain France and several other allied nations signed similar agreements earlier and the Soviet Union's original plan was to form an alliance against the fascist movement but conditions forced him to enter an agreement with Hitler when western powers opted for appeasement.
If you want to judge Stalin, it's worth looking at conditions before and after his rule. The Soviet Union went from a backwards peasant nation with 18% literacy to the other global super power in about twenty years after being devastated by two world wars and civil war sponsored by western powers. The purges, though arguably excessive, were against elite counter revolutionaries and were widely popular amongst the working class, who also mourned Stalin's death. In the Soviet Union housing, employment, education and healthcare were considered rights and the living conditions for the workers improved on a scale never seen before.
This isn't to say Stalin was a saint, as he did some backwards stuff like banning homosexual behavior and rolling back progress made for women under Vladimir Lenin. The fact of the matter is, while the situation is less black and white than we're usually taught it is, Stalin's regime made great strides for the people.
On the matter of authoritarianism, it's true that Soviets didn't enjoy all the freedoms that many of their western counterparts did, they enjoyed far more freedom and even a great degree of democracy that had never before been experienced in School and the economic stability and guarantee of having their basic needs met means that they also enjoyed certain freedoms that workers in the west did not and still do not enjoy.
Stalin's leadership was certainly flawed, but after doing a great deal of research on early Soviet history it's hard to deny that he earned much of the respect and admiration his country gave to him, while also denouncing and even fearing the cult of personality built around him by western media, correctly predicting it would be used to sabotage both his image and that of the revolution.
NBC cause politics, but maybe this will encourage someone to do some investigating on the matter.
For the record, I'm more of a Tito guy myself.

Okay, I'll bit all serious.

Lenin and bolsheviks were counter-revolutionary, particularly against the soviet worker-councils because of their decentralized form contesting the bolsheviks' central control. Stalin taking over involved pushing out Trotsky with those other two guys (because the people in power at the top of the hierarchy was four people - so much for the proleterait eh).

Later on the carnivalesque terror ran by Stalin having local jurisdictions meet quotas of people to arrest, exile, or kill, so the party officials would frame people to meet the quotas, but then a few years later there would be a public outcry from this authoritarian control with fear and harm, so then the party leadership would kill, exile, or imprison the party officials who followed this quota policy. Sooo many party officials were killed for this reason from dysfunctional and paranoid policy which targeted nearly everyone.

I'm willing to believe you, these things did happen. But in a nation that size in that technical age it wasn't exactly as easy to prevent these kind of overzealous atrocities. Some regional beaurocrats went the opposite direction and others committed even more heinous acts. The Soviets achieved amazing things at an awful cost, but overall the regime was extremely popular among the working class. If you want to be hostile about it that's your deal, I hope whatever is eating at you can be dealt with.
>>5052547
I'm not dogmatic about the bolsheviks, and there were certainly major flaws in their approach that we should learn from, my goal is to show people that there were successes as well, and those successes also have lessons to teach us.
On the matter of quotas for example, you're right, but this wasn't universal and in fact later leaders like Brezhnev had to tighten regulations on quotas during to widespread corruption in the form of industries intentionally under producing to decrease expectations as there wasn't much incentive to up production when your community was doing fine and you had nothing else to gain from it.
