why are the legs double jointed on the sensory homonculus? How are the lips like many times the size of the fucking eyes? This can't be legit.

I have no idea what’s going on with the legs. Do eyes have a lot of nerve endings? Idk if they do. Your lips, much like your butthole, have tons of nerve endings though, which is why they’re represented so large. Same with the tongue.

Like for instance. Have you ever lost a tooth and felt the gap in your teeth with your tongue? And the gap feels HUGE when you poke it with your tongue. But irl its just a regular tooth sized gap. Or even just feel your teeth with your tongue right now, no gap needed. Don’t your teeth feel huge??? That’s because your tongue is a sensitive ass bitch

I didn't have to take anatomy but someone I knew did, and basically it seems like besides the optic nerve, the actual material eyeball doesn't have all that many nerve endings. I can touch my eyeballs and barely feel it. It's a rigid yet sponge like structure whose radius is determined by the lens it holds in place. Basically anything that touches your eyeballs is absorbed because it's like a biological sponge. That's why a lot of medicine is administered through the intraocularly

Also have you seen how the sensory representation adjusts for an amputee? Usually the head nerves becomes connected to the amputated limbs nerves and it supposedly really sucks and gives people massive headaches. There was one example of a biker who lost his hand which was clutched in a fist around the handlebars. He said that he feel the nails of his missing hand digging into his skull. Luckily with mirror therapy he was finally able to clench his phantom fist after years of suffering and it provided him with immediate relief.

This also makes me wonder how arthritis and broken bones affect the sensory system and why the pain is so awful and chronic.

They do though!

If your arm gets cut off, you get like a phantom pain because your brain still tries to represent your entire body so it like takes some sensory nerves from head. I swear I'm not just making that up.

I wish I knew how to describe it better but basically when the hand gets amputated, the face region sort of extends to fill in the area where the hand region is. I watched a video on it years ago.

I know about phantom limb pain but I didn't know about it being connected to feeling it in your head. is that common?

Part of the reason chronic pain is so terrible is the psychological reactivity people have to it. After a while, you are not only feeling the physical pain, but your reactivity to the pain itself is so much higher because you just cannot tolerate it or cope with it anymore. So some people start experiencing the pain as worse than it actually is (although the pain experienced is still very real), because of distressed reactivity to the pain.

Emotional pain and physical pain are also processed in the same area of the brain, and your brain has a hard time telling the difference. So if you're psychologically distressed by physical chronic pain, you also end up having "emotional chronic pain" along with it, which your brain doesn't really interpret much differently. and it becomes this synergistic clusterfuck

Here is a picture that shows what happens in the brain when the hand is amputated. Notice how once the hand goes missing, the face region extends upwards to compensate. This results in phantom pain and feeling your face where your hand should be or vice versa. It apparently causes major headaches.

I know, it's fucking horrible. I hate living in this flesh prison with all my flesh pains and I hate having to provide nutrients to my meat multiple times a day. The orgasms and drugs are pretty fun but other than that I could really do without
