My mother has the ability to dream of things, occurrences, she has no direct exposure to. Not prophetic, but a sort of telepathy. It's generally benign things and it runs in her family.
How do I unlock my hidden family powers?

You should look into lucid dreaming it will help you alot. IDK how much you remember your dreams but it doesn't hurt to keep a dream journal also so you don't forget any important details.

Yup just lay there for a bit when you wake up and try to recall. I've had a couple dreams where I learn things about people I didn't know before. Mostly lucid dreams though

Heyall. I have been experiencing heavy dream lapses for some time now, and from what I can tell it's most likely due to not getting enough sleep. I know I am still dreaming, but it is not lucid, and usually all that remains is weird pieces and an overall feeling or tone, which believe it or not are usually really bad. Thing is, with my job and living situation I'm usually only getting 5 hours a night. Does /dr/ know any tips for squeezing in an hour or two of sleep when I can, chemically induced or otherwise..?

5-htp works for me but will also give me crazy ass dreams. Also don't take it with an SSRI cause it messes with serotonin levels.

I have had a lot of experience with insomnia; due to diet and lifestyle and then ptsd and then again diet and lifestyle. The ptsd factor I dealt with and got over thru exercise, meditation, yoga and some other mental resiliancy techniques, but the diet and lifestyle factor was easy

Like the other guys said, eating healthier helps, being mindful of some of the natural side effects of foods and herbs made a big difference

For one; caffeine. Absolutely none after 13h00. That was difficult for me because i needed that shit because i wasnt sleeping... vicious cycle. But I cracked the whip upon myself, so to speak, and made that a personal law and bam. I slept

Then I started wanting better quality sleep, so I started to learn what foods are naturally energizing and belong to breakfast and lunch, and what foods to wind down with at supper

I push my supper later, like 19h00, so my body starts to produce digestive enzymes around 18h00 and generally by 21h00 I'm able to go to sleep any time after

On top of that, and this is VERY important: Get off the computer, put away the phone/tablet, & turn off the tv at LEAST 30 minutes to an hour before bed. LED lights are fucking horrible for our sleep because of the blue light they produce that totally kills our brains natural melatonin production. Heck, make sure there are no LEDs in your bedroom whatsoever. Even that little red light that a powered off device has lit is emitting blue phase light that is fucking with your brain. Get that shit out of your bedroom or use a master switch, like on a power bar, to kill the power completely to those things.

Give your brain a good hour to actually just relax & wind down without any electric light before bed. Make a cup of herbal tea* & light a candle. Treat your fine self to some quality reflection time before you get into bed at all and I promise you, you will sleep better.

*I highly recommend a blend of Mugwort and Chamomile. If you must sweeten it, use honey

Father dreams

I had 2 really strong dreams about my dad. The first one was around 5 years ago. It was the apocalypse, and my father had decided he didn't want to go on living on this world. We are at his house, and he hands me over a gun so I can kill him. I shoot at his chest and my eyes fill with tears, he is agonizing, he's in pain, my shot didn't kill him, he begs me to kill him, and with tears falling out of my eyes I tell him 'I love you, old man' and I shoot again, one, two, three times. He's dead. He suddenly turns into my doctor (whom I've known for more than 20 years, and has always been a sort of paternal figure), and Im at his office. He's also going away, and he hands me a one dollar bill, that's all he's gonna give me before he goes away. I look at him disappointed, that's it? just that?

Last night I dreamt my dad was moving in with his new girlfriend (I don't live with him). He writes a goodbye letter to me, another to my brother, another to my mum. The one for my mum is really long. Mine is written in toilet paper. I go into the bathroom to read it, and I don't know why I start crying. I close the door and turn on the shower, but the water gets the note and the paper just dissolves. The letter is practically unreadable, but it seems as if he's going away forever. He's decided to leaves us for once and for all. When I look at the letter again, it's just a chain of amulets, that hold a single word in it each. What it said was pretty much meaningless, I dont quite remember if it were all like articles and propositions, or just a shortened version of what he had written earlier.

Anyway, my relationship with my dad has gone to shit in the last few years. We barely talk to each other. He's kind of an asshole. Not like a terrible abandoning alcoholic asshole. Just a stuck up, sort of violent, cheap, selfish asshole. I just realized how important my first dream about my dad was a few months ago. Like, killing your own father, that's symbolically huge. I wonder what may lie beyond his goodbye letter, the toilet paper, the amulets, etc.

Nothing, Op. i once Dreamed I was riding a lion through the sea at dusk around New York City, metaphorically a SeaLion if you will. Skydived into some rich folks huge yard and my parachute got caught on a tree but I just spun around the tree and then fuckin waltzed on over to this rich ladyz grill by her pool on a hot summer day and ate a fuckin piece of my favorite steal off her grill before flatout kickimg her poodle into the pool for no apparent reason. Ended this dream fucking that actress from the Hunger Games movies while FBI helicopters searchlights looked all over for me before I rode it that sea lion away, only to find I was not in the deep scary dark ocean as I feared but instead was able to dip my hand into the water and feel its sandy floor. Dunked my whole head under amd felt the lions nice mane before I woke.

Typically that dreams only meaning is that my fears are not deep or large as I imagine and its really a shallow thing, fear I mean.

I dated this girl about 5 years ago. She was my best friend before that. Someone very close to us died and she cheated on me and left me the same week. I hated her guts for years.

Earlier this year I ran into her at a party and saw her for the first time in 5 years. She was a complete wreck, her face was fat, she had been drinking every day since we broke up. We became very close after this and she ended up moving in with me for a short period of time.

She moved across the country to live with her mom, she ended up getting some life threatening medical problems for drinking too much and having to go to rehab. She doesn't drink now and kinda has her shit together.

Anyways, the dream was the other day and it was that i was in a wheel chair and I saw her at a punk show, and i couldnt walk but when I see her I got up to hug her.

What does this mean?

Dreams usually mean nothing, at most they sometimes represent out emotions in jumbled up none-sense but it’s usually a waste of time to extract some sort of complicated meaning out of a dream.

But hey, you got to see an ex that cheated on you have her whole life wrecked. That’s quite a rare gift!

Well it happened lads. I am a real trekkie now. I had a dream I was an officer on the Enterprise by the rank of Lieutenant and Ensign Ro had just been assigned to command a small vessel for a few months on a temporary assignment. Cmdr. Riker was walking from one part of the ship to another and I was following him around, talking shit and joking but at the same time implying I should have been selected for the assignment. Riker tried to give me a disappointed look (but also looked sheepish because he fucked Ensign Ro before) and started lecturing me about how we all need to accept the decisions of Starfleet. Just then a huge explosion rocked the ship and I woke up.

i had a dream that I was eating my ex-gf out, but then her vagina fell apart in my mouth. Part of it was stringing down my throat, and I was holding it with one hand but I couldn't pull it out of my throat. I started hacking up vagina parts. The whole time, she was yelling "YEA! GET IT! GET IT!". I woke up holding back vomit.

This might overlap with /qq/ and /sd/ but I had some dreams that I'm gonna post
First Dream:
>Running around in a tournament style video game thing
>Spend three stages swimming in these sand pools
>Wonder into a an Egyptian tomb and see a naked woman from the back
>Set off by this more than usual
>About to have sex with her but I think I wake up
>A part of the dream was me being half awake and accidentally edging myself in a weird sleep paralysis

Second Dream (not a super important one but it happened in between the others):
>Watch European guy ride around on a Llama and film himself doing travel documentaries
>Talks about how his ancestors tipped him off about a Spanish boat thing from WWI
>Says that his ancestors invented BDSM and that he doesn't talk to them anymore because they're weird
>The dream ends with European dude sliding back and forth on a boat tipped at an angle indicating sinking while the Llama panics

Third Dream:
>Going on a date with a girl at a jungle tour thing where a lot of people died
>We go into a recreation of a school bus that slid off a cliff tipped at an angle to simulate sliding backwards off a cliff
> I offer my date these gummy ring candies that I got from a gift shop
>She doesn't really want them but takes one anyway
>She ties it together with a rubber band and swallows it whole without chewing
>The tour ends and we're in a parking lot
>I see the girl come out of the bathroom dressed in a really formal suit
> instead of talking to me or making eye contact she goes into a wooded area
>She strips down to her underwear and jumps off a really high cliff and into a river to drown
>A lifeguard (also a girl) jumps down to get her and levitates back up with her
>I wake up

Anyone here had an experience with "dream bedrock" before? Or a "pillar of light"?
I had a dream a few weeks ago that was very intense and I couldn't wake up. Lots of things were happening out of my control even though I was lucid. Then, a strange character entered my dream and told me everything was going to be alright, that I needed to be resourceful in order to get through the situations in the dream. I was then able to control the dream more, and at some point I reached a pillar of light. "This is the main nerve" I said, likening it to dream bedrock. I sat and observed it for a minute, pondering. I woke up shortly after. What did it mean?
DemonBoner69 - Thu, 16 Nov 2017 16:31:32 EST 9cKIJpgP No.45850 Reply
Very interesting, I cant say... I have always been able to "pull" myself out of any bad dream if I was lucid and really wanted to. Sometimes it does help me to just run towards whatever is bothering me in my dream, instead of trying to force myself out somehow.

Not sure what you mean by dream bedrock or pillar of light though....

Techniques to Induce Lucid Dreaming

Is this bullshit? Or does this work for other people? I think it has worked for me in the past, sort of. Making dreams more lucid, at least. Although the whole staying still thing can just be really uncomfortable, which is what makes me think it's pointless, maybe not worth doing.
The other tip I've seen multiple times is to use a journal to write down as many details about the dream as possible when you wake up, and that this improves the general ability to remember them. That one seems pretty solid, but I don't know how much of an effect it has had on lucidity while IN a dream.

Well it's not TOTAL bullshit... It works for a few people, not really for me. I have had it happen maybe twice but it is really hard to stay still like you said. The sensation of falling asleep is very strange (feels like you are falling or "sinking" into your bed) and almost always jerks me awake. Your results may vary.

Having a dream journal is key for pretty much everybody. As soon as you wake up just write down whatever you can remember (does't have to make sense or anything just write) and you will start to get better at dream recollection. There is a reason why most people recommend a dream journal.

Most important part about staying lucid is to practice being lucid while awake. Just make a habit of checking to make sure the world around you is consistent. Mirrors and light switches may or may not work as they should in a dream so this is a kinda unreliable technique. Mostly just pay attention to your surroundings while awake and once it becomes a habit you will start doing it while dreaming.

What do you relate your dreams to in real life? These dreams could be symptomatic of a crisis in your life or underlying psychic turmoil which you may be as yet unconscious of (hence the expression through dreams).
