How practical would it be to keep a dog in the post apocalypse?

It would be awesome to have a big strong one to help you find food and attack zombies and bandits who fuck with you, but then you run the risk of being swarmed by 20 zombies or a party of cannibals if he freaks out at a stray cat or squirrel.

I'd think it'd be like taking a dog hunting, or drug sniffing... Most dogs wouldn't be very useful and those who are would have to be trained for years by a professional to be of any help.

That doesn't mean there isn't a psychological benefit to keeping pets around though. Just means that they're definitely more of a burden than a benefit, practically speaking.

A big imposing dog has its use in this sort of scenario in large part because it can defend you. Now you'll run into some senarios where the dog just isn't helpful or is a burden. But overall? He'll wake your ass up if somethings coming to get you while your asleep.

Now the dog might not last forever in this sort of scenario. You might not either. Its still better to have a dog than the wrong person around you. A dog isn't going to betray you cause he gets annoyed.

You have to hope that you have the right dog though. A Chihuahua isn't going to be of much help in this sort of world.

I agree, the average house dog would be a burden in the apocalypse. A hunting or camping dog would be somewhat better but there's still the chance they do something retarded if they're at all used to home life.
I think if you got a few month old puppy it would be able to adapt to your situation as it grew up, but it would be pretty useless for a few years. It depends how long you plan to survive I guess. Once you got a full grown dog who thought you were the alpha male and who grew up after the apocalypse it would be super useful. Dogs are really good at learning if you constantly engage them, so you could probably teach it some complex shit, like smelling out zombies and warning you.

Saw this and thought, was the black plague the apocalypse and the past several hundred years have been the post-apocalypse? What signifies that society has recovered from an apocalyptic event? Did the world ever really recover from the black plague or, even with the renaissance/industrial revolution/over population etc, has it really just gotten worse and there is no such thing as recovery from an apocalypse? What are your thoughts on this? Do you think we are in an apocalypse now or leading up to one? Or is it a long, painful process that has no definitive beginning or end?

Possibly. Western Europe as a whole had been experiencing positive economic and population growth in the 14th century (that was slightly curbed by a series of famines right before the first outbreaks of plague).

you raise some good questions. i think the people who lived in the time after the fall of the roman empire, especially those who quarried its majestic architecture for raw materials to cobble together shit-heaps, couldn't help but feel that "things used to be so much better" and they were living in the shit fallout. i'd like to play a game set in the dark ages where no one can read and only knows about folk legends and shit. you could have quests to unlock basic hygiene and nutrition lol

Dental Care in the apocalypse

Okay, so when the big one comes, obviously the electric toothbrush and various pastes will be a luxurious legend of the before times.

But we also know that improper dental care is a gateway to death by heart disease and infection. Not to mention pain from rotting teeth can be a distraction you don't need when you're in the shit.

How can one take care of their teeth without society to rely on for supplies?

If you eat lots of leafy greens and other fibrous foods, your teeth will largely clean themselves from the action of chewing. If you still have starchy gunk on them from things like bread, you can brush with a preparation of baking soda and water to make a paste and pretty much any brush-like object

From experience with a broken tooth, freshly crushed garlic can soothe a toochache caused by a break or bad cavity until you can get proper care. You'll have to replace it often, though. I've heard that Ginger can make for a longer-lasting temporary filling, but I've never tried it and wouldn't recommend it. It sounds like it hurts, and I don't know about the antimicrobial or pain-soothing properties of ginger. Actual modern fillings are basically a cured ceramic... stuff. I'm sure a dentist could do a filling in "field conditions".

In fact, even as a non-shtf thing, I advice baking soda toothpaste. It foams up real nice, does a good job cleaning, and leaves your breath fresher than what is essentially just an inert paste flavored with fake mint like you find in Colgate or whatever. It also still has the helpful fluoride in it. The baking soda is also a mild abrasive. It's too soft to damage your teeth or gums, but is just hard enough to help in displacing gunk from that PB&H sandwich you had for lunch.

Don't brush with salt, though. That'll cut up your gums something fierce, if not chemically burn them as well. It'll hurt, and open them up for infection. Use salt only if you have a gum abscess or other wound to disinfect it, or gargle salt water if you think you have some shit growing in the back of your mouth. It's not for brushing, though.

In the Philippines, there is a young Filipino who leads one of the most powerful ngos in the world, with millions of members, and have ties with leftists, socialists, muslims, and catholics, politicians and military personnel. Aside from the fact that two Filipinos students have created the Iloveyouvirus, this ngo and its leader have created some of the most powerful ciphers in the world: many of which were mentally calculated and which processes cannot be recorded even by the most advanced drones and surveillance systems in the world. This young leader has also undermined the doctrine of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction), and has pointed out, not only that the United States and its allies would be outnumbered by its enemies, but Russian and Chinese EMP weapons technology have also surpassed that of the US. The young Filipino has repeated warned his fellows of the potency of Russian jamming technology, such that NATO would look like a mere insect. Furthermore, not only has the US has been plunged in a debt of over 19 trillion dollars, but its politicians also worry that its nuclear deterrent is behind that of its enemies.
There is no valid reason for the US allies to continue in their dependence and “trust” in the United States. Remember the Turkey Coup Plot and the Brexit results. The NGOs can unite even against the most powerful nations in the world. There is no reason to believe in American propaganda. The Arabs reportedly own over 14 trillion dollars worth of assets, and it would be easy for them to unite with pro-Muslim and pro-socialist NGOs…even to declare war against a superpower, if necessary. The young Filipino has estimated, that a budget of 5 trillion dollars would be enough to create a military power, more than two times as potent as that of the United States.

I want to know as much information as possible about UK police and the law (especially recent changes) regarding their possession of weapons. As in, walking about on the street on a regular patrol, carrying guns.

Is this actually getting more common? Any evidence (or links to decent sources) would be GREAT,
also: what the fuck is the psycological effect on the police, the individual officers, when given such things? AND any information on --- WHERE THE GUNS ARE BOUGHT FROM (of course someone profits from the purchase; weapons companies etc).

I know I could find this out myself in the process of doing so but any pointers in interesting directions would be fantastic, cheers.
