Anyone play Lifeweb? It's a Space Station 13 clone set on an Earth colony beset from without by alien slavers and torn from within by religious war.

Evergreen is a nightmare crapsack world like Warhammer 30K, Battle Angel Alita, F.A.T.A.L. and The Night Land all ran into each other and exploded.

Good luck just walking down the street without being raped, skinned, and eaten. In no particular order.

Movies, series, comics, videogames, books, anime, you name it. Fictional or speculation documentary, everything goes. Recommend and discuss.

Gonna begin with the number one, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. saga which began as a short-story named "roadside picnic", then soviet director-god Andrei Tarkovsky made it into a movie named STALKER, and then we got the videogames of the same name. All of them are pure 10/10, check them out if you somehow haven't yet.

Going with some obvious stuff. The wasteland games. The fallout games. Mad max stuff is post apocalyptic too. Stephen kings the stand is a lot of fun. Really fond of the extended cut of that book.
dark tower is technically post apoclyptic too but its also a lot of other things too
I could use more books in this vein for sure. Not really well acquainted with the classics of the genre.

{Okay, well, besides hoping this board survives, thrives, and eventually moves more than say /art/ does, here's to hoping for a pretty packed & kick ass thread}

>ITT:
So, I call this the Bait Bobber Bottle. A bait-fishing keychain kit ideal for lakes, ponds, & slow-stream/river shoreline fishing. This is something I just allofasudden threw together from handmedown mish-mash gear my uncle never used anymore after rewatching the first Rambo movie and recollecting all of the wannabe 80's & 90's handles-full-of-life-providing survival kit-knife ads you saw in the back of magazines and suchwhat. The bobber part & function was never an intention and actually an unaccounted for side-effect of such an idea and concept.
As you can see by the second image, with everything from image 4 still packed inside of it, and even with another 2-inch banana weight clipped on (no clue on it's exact weight but a baby would completely cry if you chucked it at their face), the 50ML liquor bottle still completely floats and functions as a bobber. This is totally a prototype though:
(1) the safety seal ring around the bobber-bottle's neck is fine in an emergency survival situation but I wouldn't trust it to stay on a keyring indefinitely so it should be replaced by something stronger for the abuse of daily carry/dangling.
(2) the waxed papery gasket inside the cap is probably more likely designed with the thought of keeping liquid contents in, but a pancake-like rubber/solid-synthetic disc gasket would maybe be a better & more reliable option.
(3)This kit totally has more room in it for additions; I'm planning on adding a few long lasting modified strike-anywhere survival matches and a bare-bones ultra-thin small-game knife, something like a mini K55K.
(4) The bass guitar string segment with the bent angle on the end in the third image is to function as a gaff hook to pull out & pack in equipment.
(5) The spool is a 3 or 4 inch segment of standard home-use oxygen breathing tube slitted up through the segment with one parallel line along it's length and wound with 20 pound test line (never measured it out but I'm sure I got at least 50-70 feet on there if not a close 100). When you start winding it, make sure you start with a one/one-&-a-half inch gap between the ends on the oxygen tube with the slit on the outward side, as winding fishing line into it will constrict it and get tighter/shrink upon itself. Also, it should be rotated once a month or so to stop memory-shaping although the shape as you can see it from the last image isn't too bad as string-warping/shaping goes.
(6) The bobby pin is because who the fuck knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Let's see what you got and what you've done, /fo/. Input/advice welcomed as well.

I mean I can dig it. The whole people are killing each other, the base camps, the monsters. I always envision it being something involving nuclear power or the like if there ever was a post apocalyptic scenario. I figure stalkers vision isn't that far off about how things would go down. Those games are really cool too, with one of the best mod scenes out there easily.

How practical would it be to keep a dog in the post apocalypse?

It would be awesome to have a big strong one to help you find food and attack zombies and bandits who fuck with you, but then you run the risk of being swarmed by 20 zombies or a party of cannibals if he freaks out at a stray cat or squirrel.

I'd think it'd be like taking a dog hunting, or drug sniffing... Most dogs wouldn't be very useful and those who are would have to be trained for years by a professional to be of any help.

That doesn't mean there isn't a psychological benefit to keeping pets around though. Just means that they're definitely more of a burden than a benefit, practically speaking.

A big imposing dog has its use in this sort of scenario in large part because it can defend you. Now you'll run into some senarios where the dog just isn't helpful or is a burden. But overall? He'll wake your ass up if somethings coming to get you while your asleep.

Now the dog might not last forever in this sort of scenario. You might not either. Its still better to have a dog than the wrong person around you. A dog isn't going to betray you cause he gets annoyed.

You have to hope that you have the right dog though. A Chihuahua isn't going to be of much help in this sort of world.

I agree, the average house dog would be a burden in the apocalypse. A hunting or camping dog would be somewhat better but there's still the chance they do something retarded if they're at all used to home life.
I think if you got a few month old puppy it would be able to adapt to your situation as it grew up, but it would be pretty useless for a few years. It depends how long you plan to survive I guess. Once you got a full grown dog who thought you were the alpha male and who grew up after the apocalypse it would be super useful. Dogs are really good at learning if you constantly engage them, so you could probably teach it some complex shit, like smelling out zombies and warning you.

Saw this and thought, was the black plague the apocalypse and the past several hundred years have been the post-apocalypse? What signifies that society has recovered from an apocalyptic event? Did the world ever really recover from the black plague or, even with the renaissance/industrial revolution/over population etc, has it really just gotten worse and there is no such thing as recovery from an apocalypse? What are your thoughts on this? Do you think we are in an apocalypse now or leading up to one? Or is it a long, painful process that has no definitive beginning or end?

Possibly. Western Europe as a whole had been experiencing positive economic and population growth in the 14th century (that was slightly curbed by a series of famines right before the first outbreaks of plague).

you raise some good questions. i think the people who lived in the time after the fall of the roman empire, especially those who quarried its majestic architecture for raw materials to cobble together shit-heaps, couldn't help but feel that "things used to be so much better" and they were living in the shit fallout. i'd like to play a game set in the dark ages where no one can read and only knows about folk legends and shit. you could have quests to unlock basic hygiene and nutrition lol
