I did a lot of minimalist camping when I was younger, fishing for dinner, eating oats and foraged greens for breakfast. Making fires with no matches. Good times. Besides that I have basic experience with firearms. I'm a decent diplomat. I can cook. I'm pretty technically savvy. Though I have no idea how to hot wire a car, with enough time I could probably figure it out though. I know a bit of first aid but I really want to take a class so I can learn how to set a bone properly and do CPR, I've been taught how to stitch myself up and how to treat burns though. I'm of sound mental and physical health as well so I don't need medication or anything besides water, shelter, and basic nutrition if the shit goes down. Oh yeah, and I spent two years gardening.

One thing I've always wondered though, is how many people with genetic diseases like asthma and diabetes would die in a longterm Postapoc scenario. Probably a lot. I know some people that would not fare well just due to being born with a genetic deficiency if society were to somehow collapse. :(

you cant reallly hot wire new cars because theres an RF chip in the key that talks with the ignition. in the old days you just took the hot wire and touched it to the wire for the starter motor.

you also cant slim jim em as easy because they have things blocking the lock.

honestly with where i am at and assuming the weather doesnt change drastically id be pretty ok with not carrying water. with in two miles i can think of 6-8 ponds and 4 miles or so away is lake ontario, one of the largest bodies of fresh water. if i walk idk 10 miles west i come across one of he larger rivers in the US. south 10 miles is the erie canal which runs something like 200 miles east to the hudson. this isnt even including all the creeks we have criss crossing the town.

its honestly to cold up here in the winter to try and stay so id be going some where as quickly as possible. havving lakes and rivers helps.

The Zombie apocalypse is happening, maybe. could legal highs that every one in my area is smoking render us into brain munching beings? i reckon it's indeed possible. have you seen the state of some of the cunts walking around on that shit, they look like the undead, legit. they gaze upon you with a sight that is uncanny to the flesh ripping predecessors. When i used to smoke it, i diddn't get the sudden urge to start chomping on someones cheek but i did think about eating people.

When I was a teenager, a couple friends and I made an underground water drainage system our dungeon. One of the dudes stole his dads credit card and we bought 100 dollars worth of snacks and candles to place throughout the tunnel so we wouldn't need flashlights. It was fucking awesome! this was during summer break so we would go down there everyday. It was in suburban texas and these tunnels are what those street drains that your skateboard can fall down goto. the entrance tunnel was the biggest. You could stand up in it. Then along that tunnel there were smaller round tunnels where you would have to bend over and avoid the small water stream in the middle. We would place the candles in these. then every 100 or so feet it would open up into a room that you could stand up in that had a ladder and a manhole above it. these usually went to the middle of streets. after the room it would continue to the circular tunnel to another room. eventually the tunnel started to get smaller and smaller to where we would have to crawl. we never kept going after a little bit of that because we were already some 15 minutes into the system. There were also little little tunnels that branched off a big one and led to the street drains. One time we crawled up and into a street drain, pushed off the manhole and got out just to see this asian dude cutting his bushes with a really shiny kitchen knife. like from scream.. he said something and we went back down ha ha. Throughout our growing up we would come back to the tunnels. I remember another time, we were down there doing cocaine and I guess one of the tunnels that led to the street drain echoed to the sidewalk and some lady with her kids heard us fucking around talking about doing the coke and being silly asses. She said she was going to call the police and we shout back death and rape threats. We were bad kids.

Califaggot here, with all the fines and shit a lot more people are doing this such that a lot of times they'll just send you a massive fine and a court date instead.

If you're concerned about your water then dig your own well or (specifically with drinking water) stock up every week using water cans from a spring.

You tried storing cotton in plastic straws for you tinder? A buddy burner made from a used tuna can cardboard and old wax would help. Soda can tabs make good tensioners for your ropes. Using some chocolate on a bottom of a soda can be used to reflect the sun to start a fire. Nothing beats having pure baking soda a must have for any survival kit.

with relations between the us and School getting worse by the day, is it time to start thinking about fallout/blast shelters if shit hits the fan and we engage in nuclear war?

or is the prospect of even a regional/limited nuclear exchange so daunting that it'd be better to run to midtown Manhattan or the Mall in D.C. to ensure you go in a flash should the missiles fly?

When SHTF, we tend to have ideas about survival, government, fuel, and food. But what about the stuff that makes life worth living?

I'm talking about booze, of course. Eventually, the liquor reserves of the world will run dry. Luckily, I know how to make some good old mountain dew. Perfect for trade, and fuel, and above all else, morale.

Does anyone else have a similar skill set?

Distilling the mash to make spirits isn't difficult, but requires equipment to control the heating of the mash, to cool and collect the vapors and to measure the temperature.

It also requires watching to make sure the temperature's in the right range (>80 <90 C). You will also not want to drink the first and last decilitres (so called head and tail) as they'll taste like crap.

So while it's not difficult, it's a lot more involved than just making mash.
