I know that everybody preps for scenario 2 because, let's face it, guns and ammo and abandoned building are way more fun than surveillance and wage-slavery

But really it feels like scenario 1 is what "post-apocalyptic" looks more like in today's context. how the fuck do you prepare for *that*?

This thread reminds me of the ‘280s. A lot has happened since the chrononnihilation event, but yeah basically before we got to enjoy a lawless free for all, we had to enjoy the wagestallionery of the 2281 imperial economic edict or AIEE screamed really loudly as our spinal bases snapped by our toddler beaurecrat overlords.

I live in a deeply red area and most the people know me as a liberal. Already I have had eggs thrown at me and had people cut me off on cross walks. I got a 60 year old mother to take off of and I live on Kodiak, that little island off the south coast.

Now since this is a drug board.

What drugs do you take with you? I'd set up a mobile meth lab and be meth'd out constantly, and have a hydro grow set up for weed and opium in the RV. A little bit of meth keeps the mind sharp and the paranoia extreme. Good for this situation I'd say.

So what's your best, or favored survival weapon? If shit hits the fan, what will you keep by your side at all times, relying on it to save your ass?

It could be a gun, a blade, something blunt, maybe even think outside the box here. Perhaps it's your car. The point is to pick one thing which you would choose first as a weapon to survive an apocalypse.

Now just to clarify, this is a total SHTF apocalypse. There are zombies, thermonuclear blast sites, biological weapons released, natural disasters, fucking total anarchy everywhere. Things like bullets might be in short supply unless you've got your own personal ammo dump. Forget about raiding a nearby military base, it's almost definitely either heavily fortified and in use already or completely annihilated. You might have some luck in private shops or homes, but ammunition is going to be a bit scarce, especially since in such a world it will become so valuable.

Gas stations won't be up and running for the most part. You may have to find other means of transportation. Think about how this impacts the type of weapon you select. Things like weight, conspicuousness, extra moving parts that need to be carried are all important factors.

Think about concealment. Or alternatively, intimidation. Would you do better hiding the fact that you're armed? Or would walking through a town lugging a fully automatic machine gun speak more to your style?

Think about alternative uses for your weapon. What else can it be used for? Could you chop things with it? Dig perhaps? There's a lot to consider and you only get to pick one.

My choice? A khukri. I'm not saying it's everyone's best choice but it works for me. I prefer being sneaky, inconspicuous, quiet and not having to rely on scavenging for ammunition on top of food and other supplies means more time saved. Sure it's not nearly as reassuring as a rifle, but so long as I stick to the shadows and keep my head down I'll be fine.

I'm not very strong and am somewhat short, the khukri's design capitalizes on the laws of physics, giving you a lot of slicing power for very little kinetic input. A swift flick of the wrist and someone loses an arm. Or a head. Gunshots are loud, they attract attention and can be difficult to direct in a crazy situation if you don't have prior training. Sure you might have gone to the shooting range every weekend for ten years but are you sure you won't piss yourself and freeze up as an undead horror comes screeching at you full speed, mutated face pustules throbbing, fangs eager to eat your flesh? Now in that scenario you might be saying "well fuck, I'd rather have a gun than have to get anywhere close to something like that" and I would say you're probably right. However, there's just something primal about holding a big blade in your hand. It feels right and in a fight or flight response, the first instinct is sometimes to swing violently at your target. With a blade, that will work just fine.

A khukri can do more, it can chop firewood, it's easy to keep sharp and if I really have to it can be a decent digging tool (though it'd probably be fucked up after I used it for that). It makes a prime hunting knife but since I'm more of a trapper and a forager, hunting wild game with a knife isn't going to be a big concern.

Feel free to tell me why I am wrong/retarded/doublejolly african-american etc.

So /fo/, choose your weapon.

I wouldn't say that it's more important, but it is a lot more difficult to acquire after SHTF than before, than a firearm is likely to be. If we're playing that game though, optics, especially night vision gear, should take priority. The most dangerous enemy is the one you don't see.

I'm going to start collecting videos and books of how-tos on a ton of survival info. From basic first aid to complex surgeries, car repairs, navigation, weather. Almost anything I can think of. I think 1tb should be more than enough.

I figure all you need is a power source and you can charge whatever, a car on the side of the road will charge your phone/laptop/tablet. Plus you can transfer it around on USBs. The only downfall I can see is something breaking, but at that point, you'd have already copied it multiple times.

You need to do a bit of studying. This is electronical 101 stuff. You're literally just spinning magnets to generate electricity. A generator can be built with simple hand tools, and the parts can be salvaged from scrap that can be harvested with ease from any suburb. The only tricky part is getting the amperage and voltage at the right levels, and that can be accomplished with a few resistors and adjusting the gear ratios on whatever you're using to make it spin. Even if you can't get proper resistors, you can just figure one out using random bits of metal or other conductive materials that have more resistance than your wire... or even (not practical most likely, but it will work) just use a longer length of thicker gauge wire to step it down. Even capicitors can be made out of a roll of alluminum foil if it comes down to it.

Ideally you'd want to keep an archive of free software so you can easily repair and modify your systems in the event of the companies falling by the wayside. This could be doubly beneficial in the event that you live in a post apocalyptic community. Free software could easily be made to preform new duties like starting a distributed meshnet for the sake of data redundancy.

The Owl of Minerva is Tyrell Corps Logo. The intro scene where Deckard is flying over the flaming spires of LA is called Hades for some reason. However I find this strange as having personally been to Hades I can confirm that there are towers of flame. Ridley is an interesting character. I recently chilled with a buddy of mine that's a survivalist and he really liked the coat I had (pic related, tried to get the best shot I could of the pockets). It has a waterproof zipper on the front and some hidden pockets on the inside. Anyways, he mentioned maybe putting some velcro on those inside pockets to make them more secure for running and it got my mind moving. Any other ideas on making this jacket better in case society falls apart? I'm personally kicking around trying to incorporate a hood I can attach with a zipper or something for harsher weather. Also, I guess general tactical/apocalypse fashion thread.

I'm not gonna stock that much food up because no matter how much you stock, once it's gone, it's gone. I'm going to set up an aquaponics garden and use my family's poop to fertilize duckweed for the fish to eat and feed food scraps to black soldier fly larvae which I would also feed to the fish. You just need enough solar power to drive the pumps and you should be able to sustain yourself indefinitely. You might need a little outside food here and there to input fresh nutrients into the system but otherwise you should be good to go. Soiless mediums give way more harvests per year and can increase planting density so you can grow more with less space and aquaponic systems recirculate the water so they can be sustained off of nothing but rain water because they use so much less water than any other type of farming. Hopefully if I get started experimenting now, by the time SHTF I should be able to scale it up to where it could supply my entire family with food.
