Lot’s of code, writing and english corrections this month. So it's low on sex.

WHAT'S NEW?
-Sex scene with Irulan. Easy to have at the end of the game.
-The face of Anbarin corrected in her vaginal scene.
-You can put your head between the Guild ambassador's tits.
-There is a dialogue/quest to have sex with Zakiya (Hint in the picture).
-The post credit moment had quite some work. You know there is 6 ends to the game so it has 6 different situations now (locations and dialogues change). I share with you the script if you are not crazy enough to try them all ;p .
-The Harkonnen's end has now Alia catching her family having sex.
-Loading screen with advices when you start the game. The most useful is to ask for Duncan’s opinion in front of a lady to know how to have sex with her (he has new lines).
-Press a key to hide or restore the interface (or menu button on phone). Press spacebar to be in full screen or window mode.

You can consider that update like my last “big” update for Behind the Dune. In march, I take decisions on what’s next. It will be Vega Hunters OR the sexy Choose your Adventure app. I need to meet the colleagues.
On BTD, I will correct what has to be corrected depending on what I find, and depending on your feedbacks. Like: Did the “hide Interface” and “fullscreen” options worked for your device ? Did that bring unexpected problems for your device ?

One day, I would like to work on a sexy chose your adventure ebook. It would be nice to follow a demonist or a necromancer. I have carefully read H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, and listed all the spells they have described. From Zogar Sag to Joseph Curwen I have a Weird Grimoire with spells and their immoral protocols. Raising the dead, protecting treasures, summoning creatures, imprisoning peoples into jewels or figures, pacts with demons. It could brings interesting methods to solve the problems of an adventure.

One day, I would like to do something with that.

I sketch about this Lovecraft Choose Your Adventure mobile book I thought about in November. I found an author so I could focus on the illustrations when we start. We talked a lot about the ton of the book. I want the story dark with sarcastic/borderline/funny characters. He knows the project will be eroticaly illustrated, but I asked him to forget about it so the game don't turn into an eroge. I'm not against eroge, but I think there is enough of them.
Now, I will wait for his scenario (his firsts suggestions were cool) and go back to my stuff. More to come very soon.

Character designs.

Hello!
I show you a few sketches I did to think about that choose your adventure app I have in mind. The stories could take place from 1920 (like the Lovecraft stories) to now a days, so I tried many styles. The main character will be a demonist or something, she does not age.

These days of sketches reminded me something very basic: sketch a face view of a character is not efficient at all. The result was always disappointing despite the fact the clothes were nice. :(

For the fun, I tried the clothes of Ryan Gosling in Drive. I just watched the movie and this character impressed me a lot (great archetype!).

I worked enough on that concept. It's time to deal with Irulan, and also Anbarin because I think I failed her face last month.

Aww, that's a bit disappointing to hear about the main character. The alien guy didn't exactly have much going on when David switched back to working on Dune, but I definitely thought he looked like he would've been more visually interesting in scenes than just another human dude.

Hopefully the new guy will be written with a bit more of an active personality than Paul.

Changelog:

I was having the same issue, but here's what I did,Roy. When you pick a hunt, mind your items below. The current game has a cheat for Detectors when you talk to the girls. They are marked above your lower left radar. Use them to know beforehand what the next room is and if you are ever out of Grenades,Ammo or Shield, just hit the hand icon to quit. I was able to clear a few hunts that way. Grenades are for Mechs, Ammo are for dudes, Shield is for those lava rooms where you can get them naked. Just make sure you use Detectors often to know what lies ahead and godspeed,son.

WHAT’S NEW:
-Freyjara, Lt Cobalt and Elena's stories are finished. Each story has now an introduction animation, an animation to lead to the dialogue, a dialogue and a sex scene.

-The characters are locked. You unlock them one by one with the storyline. Since only the 3 first stories are interesting, all the non-finished characters will unlock at the same time after Elena.

-Language menu is done. The architecture is done so I can add some languages in the future. The english is just google-translated for the moment. All the dialogues are now numbers... not very intuive when I code, but I have learnt from Behind The Dune's mistakes.

-In the hunt, Mildred's boobs and Jeyna's butt are animated when shooting :)

-A new item that you keep one hunt to the other: The 90's hologram. Instead of losing when the 3rd threat happens, you keep your files. Note that if you leave a room with your hologram clicked, the item is not spent. It means, you can use it more than once if you are careful.

-A new room to loot these items exists now.

-Details like : Soliandre's boobs animations is better. The face on the second sex scene of Lt. Cobalt was bad. I reworked also Freyjara’s handjob.

We're starting to see what it's going to look like. I hope you will enjoy, if not the gameplay, at least the art.
Thank you for the names some have suggested this month. So far, I used Captain Argos and Flinte. Next month, we will start to put some Original Characters from you, with sketches from me and your votes. I'll tell you more.

Hopefully someday David will add some more content to BTD. I always felt the ending needed some extra conflict, some critical opportunity of losing just on the cusp of victory, not just juggling which type of success you would choose among various positive scenarios. It is supposed to be a game, right?

So I felt a good way to achive this would be to add Feyd at that last scene, and add the climatic knife fight which could open a whole bunch of endings.

And to explore how it could be, but not being able to mod the game, I simply sketched a rough outline in comic form. Apologies for the poor art, but it is just a quick rough prelim of a possible option into that narrative direction.

It would probably need a couple more options game-wise, like "Let Chani take him" or "Have Stilgar and his men take him," and maybe change the Attack Fast/Slow option, to attack angry or attack keeping your cool, because without shields, attacking slow was not the standard wise tactic on Arrakis as opposed to during shield combat.

I've said it before, but I really couldn't agree more! Obviously, Behind the Dune doesn't have any real "difficulty" to it in the classic sense of the word, so even with the possibility of losing, it would just boil down to you choosing those options on purpose (as opposed to being blindsided by a bad ending out of the blue, which might irritate some players). And it would be easy to telegraph them ahead of time as the foolish choice for Paul to make, in the same way that there are already plenty of dialog options for him to be played as a bit of an idiot.


In the same way, I really do wish that there were more interactions between the Baron and Lady Jessica throughout the game. You get that first little hint from her about how much she hates Harkonnen, and then the ending where Paul allies with him against her wishes, but it just... happens without much reaction, and the Baron never even mentions her before that. I feel like it would make him a much better villain to have him taunting Paul throughout the game about what he's planning to do with Jessica once he wins as a way to get under Paul's skin... or tempting him into betraying her with the alliance ending, if Paul is already abusing his Voice with her.

If nothing else, I feel like that would give "happy ending" players a much more personal reason to kill him at the end than killing Leto, and feel more rewarding to prevent him from following through on any of those threats.

She really deserved more scenes... I'm still surprised that there wasn't anything more with her and the Emperor, or more mentions of her history with Harkonnen. Back before the game would let you bring her along when escaping the palace, I always thought it would've been a great way to add some content to the "villain" side of the story while the player/Paul is earning respect with the Fremen.

As is, you get that one little vision of them having a conversation in the throne room, and then they just don't do anything else for the rest of the game.

Honestly, I want to like Vega Hunters... but the new format just makes it so hard to stay interested. The gameplay is a nice little novelty, but by no means good enough that I want to do it over and over again just to unlock every scene. It's almost like if Dune had locked every sex scene behind winning three hands of blackjack first- it's not insanely difficult and can be fun, but not when it's just there to be in your way.

Also unlike Dune, having the game split into different missions just makes the whole process feel like more of an animation gallery that won't let you actually open them until you've done your chores with the gameplay than it does a story.

That, and honestly, the few traces of personality that were in the original version seem to have been all but completely stripped out. The new main character is so much more generic, you don't really get a chance to know any of the other characters because the missions are so short and isolated, and it just doesn't feel like there's any sort of "drive" to the story that it's trying to tell.

If you want a browser based game, the new standard is HTML5 using canvas and javascript. The upside is it's a lot easier to work with than Flash, no need for software more complex than a text editor and you can use whatever image/vector editor you want.

I recently read Dune for the first time and now spend weekend playing and enjoying Davids masterpiece. One thing that botherd me the most in this version of story is wasted potential of Paul and Jessica solitary jurney on the desert. Imo this was perfect moment for breaking most of taboos between them. Apart from that i wish there were more various positions for each girl (Jessica, Chani and Irulan for me) For instance i would love to see pov of Jessica in cowgirl position like we get with smugler girl.

honestly, this content is so great I'm sure all of us could list tons of stuff that we wish there was more of or new content missing that's in the book - not too mention, the books sequels. I recommend them, i think there are like 6 or 7 original 'dune' books written by Frank Herbert. I would definitely stay away from the ones written by his son tho - i only hear bad about those.

(kinda a spoiler, kinda not, but if you like the 'happy' sorta ending of the original DUNE and are a sensitive kind of person you may want to avoid the 2nd book after all )

If I'm being honest, I think they're pretty much dead even for me as far as the raw design goes: you just can't beat Jessica's dress with that cleavage window, but I can't say that I really love her weird hairstyle (even though it doesn't look bad enough to bother me). So that makes up a bit of the difference.

Yet Jessica is still #1 without question because of the context that Behind the Dune's story gives her. The tension between her and Paul is such a big part of her appeal.

I did give Vega Hunters a chance, and I actually really loved the original version. But ever since he changed how the story works, it doesn't scratch the same itch for me. The mini-game just kills it for me, like if Dune forced you to play a round of Simon Says to extract spice before every sex scene.

And while there are some amazing character designs, it feels like there just isn't enough story content to make them memorable and having them all so disconnected from any "main" story makes the problem even worse.

But hey, if he stops updating Dune again, that's fine. I really am looking forward to the Lovecraft project that he keeps mentioning.

I played my protoype (It lasts 15 minutes). I won’t hide that I’m not satisfied. Links for EXE, SWF, APK at the end.

GOOD POINTS
-The universe (amoral witches in Victorian age, monster compatible).
-I have now a scenario I like.
-Dialogues and map exploring bring something.

BAD POINT
-My texts describing actions are short but manage to be BORING; make the reader passive.

CONCLUSION / WHAT'S NEXT
I'm curious about your feedbacks but my first thoughts are:
-I read a lot of Choose Your Adventure books but I feel like I did not find the receip.
-I will do a dialogue based game instead of a choose your adventure book (I will study the engine gameTyranoBuilder a bit)
-For november I will deal with that Witch project on the week-ends (to study what I can do) and go back on Behind The Dune. I have to put Jessica's wedding picture and a few other ideas/ requests.

Experiment is a part of the creative process. I hope you find that interesting.

Is there a reason you're using Tyrano instead of Ren'Py?
I've seen some devs trying it out and ending up going back and redoing everything in Ren'Py

Also is this the Lovecraft game you were planning on making? If it is, I'm happy you're finally starting to work on it!

Some suggestions/observations:
  • It's kind of annoying having almost half the screen taken up by the story text. I know you can click to hide it, but there is probably a way to display the story text and the artwork at the same time.
  • I like how there are plenty of older and mature women right from the start, but please add more like MILFs/actual mothers.
  • I am not sure if the story takes place in their school, but maybe your school could also have a young boys' school connected to it or in the same school campus/land. The cult uses them when they need male components, ingredients, or participants in their rituals, spells, or activities. The cover story or rationale for the school is they send some of the older women or female students (to train them as teachers) to teach the classes of young boys there. Or maybe in London, they have to work at a young boys' school to do or retrieve something important.
  • I also hope there will be pregnancy content and pregnant fucking
  • I'm guessing you're still working on the Entropy spell system, so I will hold off on commenting on that until I see how you implement, but if you're going to make the player combine different symbols to create and discover spells, it would be better if spells are added to a list along with the combination of symbols used to make them, so you don't need to keep combining symbols over and over to reuse spells you already know and have a reminder of symbol combinations you've already tried.

WHAT’S NEW?
-New long scene with Jessica. For the moment, it will happen automaticaly a few hours after her handjob scene in the water tank.
-New choice at the end: "Yes, but be my queen instead, Jessica". If you showed interest but did not use too much the Voice on her, you'll have an illustration (sketched).
-New item: a camera. It can have a total of 7 new pictures (sketched), many after the end of the game.
-The scene of Jessica riding Paul is back. Just click on "Other angle" in the actual version.
-When I improved the boobs of the Reverend Mother, I forgot the nipple slips option. It's back. Touch them 8 times.

Its supposed to be implied Jessica and Paul get married after the events of the game. Its supposed to be open ended as in its unsure as to whether or not it was a vision or just a dream, that's why Jessica says she wouldn't be opposed to the idea of marriage, its up to the audience's interpretation. if they eventually get married or not. So any sex scene in the game has to come about through The Voice which is why she acts reluctant.

Behind The Dune 2.31: Alia+Sabibah+Shadout Mapes

WHAT'S NEW?
-Shadout mapes (the housekeeper) won the poll. She now has a sex scene if you save her from the attack.
-Her face is a bit improved, and after the attack, she can wear a stillsuit (use the mirror on her).
-An adult version of Alia is visible in the first prescience vison. She is animated (Click her pelvis).
-One more scene with Sabibah (scare Fremen), to extend the previous pee scene.
-Sabibah's face is improved in her vaginal scene.

A VERSION 2.32 IN THE FUTURE?
Yes but I will do a break on updating BTD and come back on it later (when the movie approaches at worst). I read many good ideas from some subscribers about Alia, and want to do some of them little by little, on my week-ends.
When the content is ready, to not bother Patreon (and its guidelines), I will post the version 2.32 on my server, BalsaGames.com. I'll do a post about it.

A jewel of the baron has disappeared. Paul, will you really want to find it? Alia, why do you want it back so much?

The new quest works well but is full of bikinis and not detailed roughs to avoid being banned. Sorry for that. We have reached the moment where some new content will embarrass Patreon, so the next finished update will be hosted elsewhere. When that uncensored version is ready, you will know, don’t worry.

I have finished to color the sketched quest you saw last month in Behind The Dune. In total, there are 5 new animations and 2 illustrations.

A patreon has suggested that Paul’s butt should disappear when clicked in the Irulan end. It’s done so you have a better view.
