They were capable of symbolic reasoning and tool use but so were/are we. I guess it's just an excuse to "scientifically" claim that certain groups of white Europeans are superior to everyone else because their ancestors bred with them while replacing them? Seems a little counter-intuitive.

Makes about as much sense as basing your white supremacy movement off of claiming to be descendants of the ancient Iranian nomads who invaded and settled down in India

To be fair the Indian caste system is fundamentally based on skin color, in the sense that the highest caste is the whitest skinned and the lowest caste is the darkest, and since that theory states that Indian social structure is based on these nomads' ideas it makes perfect sense to base a white supremacy movement on claiming to be descended from the original white supremacists.

Neanderthals larynx wasn't as developed as a homo-sapien's so they couldn't communicate as well.
If they were smarter or more clever, the argument is moot because one they're extinct, and two they couldn't talk worth shit, their only option was to interbreed.

We could bring them back but its been deemed pointless and cruel considering they would be cognitively behind us. Some people have larger traces of Neanderthal blood and that blows my mind.

>quoting something I saw on leddit, take with grain of salt:
Time to pick up my calipers.

If you look at historical and cultural evidence of pre islamic india, there is a remarkable desire for dark skin. The reliefs from the ajanta and ellora caves show that the king and his big booty bitches being brown as subcontinental indians are today. The heroes in the Mahabharata are described as dark skinned and skinny and the most beautiful man and woman in the story (Krishna and Draupadi) are literally named as the dark ones. Meanwhile the whitest guy in the story Pandu is a stallion who gets a magical chastity belt put on him and has to raise his wife's sons in a forest before he kills himself by trying to bone his second wife.

Then there is also reference to turkic islamic invaders being compared to lepers on account of their paler skin.

Neanderthals had bigger brains. That's why some scientists think they were smarter.

Then again, Neanderthals had absolutely no tech and culture advancement, they'd settle somewhere, advance culturally and technologically incredibly fast and plateau until humans would come along, and they'd learn to use human technology and culture.

So if they were smarter, they were probably enthusiastic, or like idiot savants.

They started out with more complex tools than us. However, we humans don't just plateau on technology. We just keep improving and improving and improving until we create global warming and kill ourselves.

Having huge brains means nothing when you're too retarded to fucking keep advancing your technology.

People project onto what they're seeing which tells you more about their given world-view. The more comfortable example would be in how insect colonies were traditionally imagined as monarchies because that is what people saw in their own world.

>Then again, Neanderthals had absolutely no tech and culture advancement, they'd settle somewhere, advance culturally and technologically incredibly fast and plateau until humans would come along

That's been the general rule for human's across history as well, at the very least whenever an isolated people get comfortable. Many cases exist of communities even forgetting technology like shipbuilding after arrival on some island paradise.

Sure, it might seem only logical to us to aim for limitless technological progress when we can see the benefits but that pace didn't exist pre-enlightenment.

Yeah what this guy's saying, technology is developed to solve problems and if there's no problems there's no need. Neanderthals were comfortable in their ecological niche, with secure settlements and stable food sources, devoting their time and energy into cultural pursuits like this guy >>57540 pointed out. Then they suddenly had to start competing for these settlement sites and food sources with more vocal, socially coordinated Homo Sapiens and they got outnumbered and absorbed. It's not like the Humans had level 3 clubs that overpowered the Neanderthals level 2 rocks.

The Neanderthals were neurotypical for their time, but when a smaller wimpier enthusiastic breed was born, the neanderthals found the females less challenging due to their inferior genetics, and the result was what would eventually become homo sapiens.

There were no antipsychotics to give the mutant-brained children in those days to keep them mellow when they couldn't handle the barbarian social climate of the era, so the weird kids would throw fits with the better tools they made, and they'd shoot up neanderthal rape-orgies with enthusiasm spears, thus preserving the socially and physically diminutive mutant women for the finicky little mutant men.

It's not like modern day spergs, which are a further degeneration of the degeneration. These ones are prehistoric, so their personalities were like what's typical today. It was only enthusiastic in comparison to the previous majority. And they were seen by that majority in the same way that today's majority sees today's mutants.

This time it's not going to take, because of the disinformation system that labels it with the word "enthusiasm". It's intentionally misleading, but it's presented as a medical fact by the establishment, which wants hurly burly warriors and ditzy nurses to run free while the wordy kids are sedated and taught to believe themselves retarded.

The mutes who can't dress themselves are at one end of the supposed spectrum. The kids who talk too much are at the other. That's what I'm talking about about the word enthusiasm being the wrong word, but it's the word the medical community uses. They do it so that the nerdy kids feel retarded so they won't go feeling superior.

IIRC, Neanderthals possessed a much better memory than Homo Sapiens, due to a large brain (specifically in the area that governs memory). What this meant in practice is that a neanderthal would never have to navigate their route by the stars or by trail markers; they just knew the exact way they had come. Homo sapiens, by contrast possess a much greater capability for creativity, which allowed us to be more innovative.

For instance, a neanderthal would be able to remember the exact placement of food stocks or firewood after a heavy snowfall, without having to dig around for them. A homo sapien would be able to create things to prevent useful items from being buried by snow.

Neanderthals used fire, tools, and had cultural burial practices, but little art.

No one ever talks about how Homo Erectus was faster and stronger than modern humans and were the dominant species of mankind for a couple of million years. We coexisted with them and they could have crushed us, had they been smarter.

based on where they found it, in a site with neanderthal bones or with tools and other material goods that we associate with neanderthal sites, and vice versa

like you'd expect there's a lot of debate over it, there are more than a few controversial supposed neanderthal works of art that aren't generally accepted as either neanderthal or art by most experts

Seems to be some misinformation in this thread as well as claims that anthropologists and biologists themselves would call theories at best and impossible to prove at worst... Neanderthals had higher cranial capacity, but that =/= some higher cognition. They also had a similar hyoid bone (the evolution of which people refer to as synonymous with humans acquiring speech) as h. sapiens. In reality, there were a lot of reasons they faded out, probably centered on temporary climate change and different social patterns.

There is no argument for significant cognitive differences between early h. sapiens and neanderthals. If I had to guess where that argument came from, it would be racism. Neanderthals lived in Europe, and a lot of old-school anthropologists argued for biological racism.

There certainly is some bit of racism involved.

What with Neanderthals and humans intermixing is a purely European and (North)Asian affair.
The whole jolly african-americantits stormfront crowd will see it as "the good kind of multiculturalism/racemixing"

Also, a really interesting thing about higher cranial capacity =/= higher intelligence is birds.
Birds have evolved to be extremely lithe to facilitate flying. Which has altered their brains. Pound for pound, a bird will be far more intelligent than a primate with the same brain weight, because bird brains have more connections. The more connections you have in your brain, the more you can do with equal or less brain cells.
That's why you get shit like ravens with walnut brains out thinking chimpansees.

This. People who make the cranial capacity argument forget little inconvenient facts like that the brain of an elephant is over 4x as large as humans, but they aren't even 1/4th as smart as us. Dogs have almost twice the number of neurons of cats, but are no more intelligent. Cranial capacity means (almost) nothing, except when looking specifically at the early evolution of genus homo (and that mostly having to do with expansion of the prefrontal cortex's volume, not the brain volume per se.)

Don't forget domesticated animals showing smarter behavior than wild animals, yet having smaller brains than wild animals.

(The shrinking is probably in fight-flight-response areas diminishing over the ages of breeding)
