What do you know about the KGB? We all know about CIA and their horrid, shady shit. But what about the kgb? The only thing I know about them is that Putin was a KGB agent, I pressume thats bad but why? What's the history of KGB?

I don't think it's bad at all in and of itself. New governments don't start with a clean slate. They inherit the people and problems of the old order. There's a lot of terrible shit you can say about Putin but this doesn't rate.

The KGB isn't analogous to the CIA, rather to the FBI. The USSR CIA-equivalent was the GRU

That's only true in so far as the FBI is the US secret police organization. The KGB and the chekist police organizations it inspired like the Stasi and StB handled all intelligence functions except military intelligence but sometimes even that.

Well the thing about the CIA is that it deals with outside of the country affairs, rather than maintaining a good type of predicament and outcome that enters Russia.
