Hi,

I've been sober for almost 3 months now. Not sure why, I don't have and never had an alcohol problem. Not much is different, except maybe my wallet is bigger and there are no hangovers. But honestly, besides that, why not drink, man.

I used to hang out with the hobos who would ride the rails I guess. For no reason but to see the bigger picture of things. We lived close enough to the rail yards and it was pretty cool. Poople would explain that you had to know what was what, street wise and traveling. They knew which trains were going where. When to jump to change direction. Otherwise, having a place to live always was closer to the streets in know how. Would hang around pretty sketchy places. This lady cop explained that people dump bodies here. We said, yes, never seen it but
no doubt it happens off and on. These two guy cops were or semed really pissed that we were parked next to the old rail yard, like we were disrupting something that was concerning to them.

should i be worried at detoxing at this level? would 200ml a day be enough to ween. And i want to be more specific. On most evenings i wake up pretty well, but after my first beer i want to ted bundy people. I guess in general for any other alcs reading this do you guys feel this way too? Like if i see someone roll a stop sign (coming from a drunk driver) it puts me into of spin of having zero hope for the human race. I think it may be more mental illness then anything else but im not sure if i already feel that way and the alc is making matters worse, or if im actually suppressing the true demon deep down.

It doesnt help that ive been under a great deal of financial stress and at 27 have yet to find any self worth. there are times it helps me deal, but others not so much.

No off thread topic but def struggling. im 27 have no record, no DUI, still have my license and a girlfriend of 7 years. im just worried if i dont do something im going to lose everything of value in my life

taper now before you lose the capability. set up a 10-day or 14-day plan where you will drink every day, progressively less each day. like 1 or 2 regular beers' worth less, until on the final day you hardly drink. then detox for a couple weeks. day drinking is how you lose everything in your life. i always stick to the corny 5PM rule for the most part

Kinda. You'll probably have bad anxiety. But if you haven't had shakes/bad experiences before, then you'll just have some anxiety. The thing about booze withdrawal is each time gets worse. Over the years, it gets worse and worse.

I'd suggest buying a little something to keep on hand, just in case you start to feel like you really need something to stop the worse withdrawal symptoms. That's what I always do... but then I always drink it, no matter what.

You asked me how to keep going, and I gave you some solid advice for that. For stopping? IDFK, dude. My only real advice is: instead of AA, go to SMART recovery. They're not a cult, and they're evidence-based. Never go to AA. It's a not-fun cult.

Lately it doesn't matter how much or how little I drink, or even how much or how little caffeine I consume with it, but I just woke up on my day off and decided to party, all excited I cracked out and drank just a couple shots of some tasty whiskey.

Now I'm about ready to go back to sleep, even after trying everything between heavy caffeine consumption to physical activity, fresh air, and sunshine. I'm just going to go sleep now, fuck my life.

It didn't used to be this way, only a few months earlier I used to day drink like a boss and was active all day, maybe I'm just tired in general.

I'm not super rich, but I try to tip at least a dollar per drink and at least a fiver total in extra bits if I have money. Sometimes if I'm pinched it's just a dollar per drink. Of course, if I was ordering elaborate cocktails or something difficult I'd probably tip more, but it's usually just beer and shots.

How do you decide your tipping habits, /hooch/? Assume you like the bartender.

Had a week detox from drinking (I've been a maintanence drinker for years but started not being able to maintain my level & getting innapropriately pissed & was about to get fiired), ended up getting pneumonia & slept through most of it so wasn't that bad. I got offered a knock off beer last night & ended up going home & staying up to 5am drinking a bottle, It's taken me years to develop noticibly uncomfortable physical withdrawals but does getting drunk once put me back into the withdrawal stage? feeling sick as shit today not sure if it's the liquor or just the pneumonia but I'm having a drink now to see if it'll help.

Pretty much if you drink you suddenly you previous larger amounts.

But 3 days, definitely, days nights whatever. If you are really into it, less amounts, you likely would still feel pretty crappy. Even something close to recognizably like
withdrawals. It can and does get worse for people who drink a lot and for a long time.

Prison Hooch

When I was around age 12, living with my grandmother, I once attempted to make alcohol in secret with minimal knowledge. I cleaned a 5 gallon plastic milk jug, attempted to sterilize it with semi-boiling water, then I added three large cartons of strawberry nectar along with several cups of pure cane sugar dissolved into semi-syrup by boiling the sugar in water. I didn't measure anything properly, didn't consider the addition of a yeast culture, and then capped the jug with a balloon. I hid the jug for several weeks, and when the balloon would seem too large I would release the pressure and reseal it quickly. Eventually I noticed that indeed began to smell like alcohol, so one day when my uncle visited, I showed it to him, and asked him what he thought, what I need to do next, ect. He thought it was funny, and said I was trying to make "prison hooch". He said I would need to eventually strain it through panty hose or coffee filters, something I couldn't do in secret. Eventually gramma found out about it. She, too, thought it was funny, and put it up on a high shelf. After a month I asked when we could try it. I remember her and mom opening it and laughing, since it smelt strongly of alcohol. Eventually they told me that it was unsafe to drink, because there could have toxins that grew in the mixture, etc. They poured it out.

My question is, if I were to attempt to make rough hootch again using nectar, would anyone care enough to share any tips, such as what yeast culture I should use, any risks to consider, any links to share? Thanks.

You will have to measure how much sugar is in the nectar, it might be written on the carton or whatever. To get 10~14% alcohol you need at least 1KG of sugar.
If you put too much sugar content it will overload the yeast and kill it or just take forever to brew.

Here's my recipes (1 month brewing time):
1KG Honey + 4L + 2 Bread Yeast + Handful of Raisins = 10~14% Alcohol
1KG Sugar + 5L + 2 Bread Yeast + Handful of raisins = 14% Alcohol

There are natural cleaners for homebrew like 1-STEP , PBW, or Oxiclean. You need to clean it thoroughly or you just end up making something that makes you puke. Pitch the yeast when the mix is lukewarm and always keep it brewing at room temperature for best results (you can wrap it with a blanket or towel and keep it near a heater)

My favorite recipe for a fast drink: amazingmead.wordpress.com/2012/02/24/orange-spiced-short-mead-drinkable-in-3-weeks/

You can do it in secret btw, i dont know how much gunk the starberry nectar produces, but with pure sugar straining is not necessary. I usually let the yeast settle to the bottom and drink it straight.

when I was in prison we made hooch using our sugar packets, orange juice, oranges.

just put it all in a garbage bag and let it sit for a few days.

basically if you don't use yeast, you are relying on ambient bacteria that does the same thing. from what I understand these bacterias can't make it as alcoholic as brewers yeast can and also contribute some other crap as well.

the reason it doesn't kill you or make you sick is because once it gets above a certain alcohol percentage, the other bacteria can't survive

>the reason it doesn't kill you or make you sick is because once it gets above a certain alcohol percentage, the other bacteria can't survive
This is mostly true. It's more because of the acidity than the alcohol. If the pH is low enough (acidic enough), then there's virtually no pathogenic bacteria that can grow. So if you're starting with a neutral (pH7) brew, then over time, the alcohol and other metabolites lower the pH to around 4, which is safe to drink.

With the orange juice, I'd guess it's always acidic enough to be safe. When people get sick from pruno, it's usually because they're starting with something not acidic enough, like bread or potatoes.

It's just the "bottled in bond" version, basically aged a minimum of 4 years, produced in one state "under government supervision" allegedly, all the other rules of bourbon, plus being 100 proof. On the surface you'd think it's just some marketing label but I've become a big fan of the bottled in bond stuff

I'm a fan of higher proof whiskeys and I rarely buy anything under 43% myself. So to me the EW white label is one of the best bang for your buck whiskeys available. I'm about to pour some of the single barrel after I finish this glass of rittenhouse

Yea, it's the opposite of what they may think of heavy drinkers. You do miss a lot if you drink pretty heavily. Even if you work and keep things basically together.

I started thinking some time back where, all these people who live day to day without getting hammered, it's gotta far more simple to live without being a drinkard. Accomplish much more even if they aren't really doing much more
than working and just living their lives.

SO, the colorado laws of selling alcohol has changed. One can buy high strength beer in convince stores. Grocery. So, people have not actually caught on to this. I think. Or
have they, by now.

Anyway, SR was selling for $1.25 a 40. That is like cheap. At a convince store.

A case, 12. Would be around, 15 bones. Normally would be around 2.78 to 3 bucks a 40 at a liquor store.

So in my travels, at state parks, etc. People are kinda drunken, (like in the past) happy, but now.

Dude, I left a few things, did you see a beer and a cell phone? Yea, right there. Ohh thanks man.

So troublesome, 3.2 beer does mostly nothing for most. Which is allowed in most parks.
But now, enforcing law for possessing or consuming over 3.2 in some public places seems pretty, umm. Difficult to enforce. I casually mean beer.

Remember cops in the 80s, technology. People used to dump 6% beer into 3.2 cans. To try to fool authorities, and police would check the content. Just and old trick.

Not sure of the long term effects of 'full strength beer being sold at gas stations, convince store, supermarkets. But, it seems, authorities have kinda lowered their authority, rational
of adults drinking higher-test beer.

My overall point is, higher test beer, is over whelming the 3.2 beer market. One can still get coors light, just as well. The law, has taken many years to pass in Colorado. To sell high strength beer in supermarkets. Convince stores. Well see how it goes.

side from SR, ST. Ides if still around is nice.

Plastic in beer containers is nothing new. It's been around since the 70s in the US. I actually find it, in Reserve even better to manage than glass. In the corporate world, it is cheaper to produce, shipping, weight etc.

As for the whiny shatter proof things. Most parks and beaches do not allow glass containers.

I asked what made them bent it. She kinda backed down on the attitude. It is unlawful to deliberately distort state issued identification.

Cops (some) are not all very level-headed. And people who side with police no matter what, criminal cops or whatever, whine when they simply get a ticket for a viable traffic violation.

A neighbor got pulled over by a cop neighbor. The stopee was part of a what one might call a in part rogue community policing network. That was is encouraged by police in a manner which what one may call nazi-like leaning in their mentality.

She was apparently was like, but you know me, the police officer said, yea I know who you are. That is desirable diligence in police work.

Another groups of cops, mutilated my Liscence. Another literally stole my Drivers License, and other legal items needed to prove that one has privileges for certain uses. Which all were costly, time/resouce consuming to replace.

One has to have an id for financial transactions, etc. This is designed in practice in taking away ones identity.

As for denying an expired ID at a store or business, may be store policy. But should not be part of
practice of discrimination.

It has happened in voting, oh you need this extra form to vote here. Your at the wrong polling station. Flat flat lying to disparage voting. Voting, oh your drivers license expired in, "yea since I was too old to drive anymore." "But that's me," "right there what you are holding in your hand."

Police will, have to accept expired id as a valid form of ID. I believe this had been through the court
system that an expired Id is an acceptable form of ID as far a law enforcement is concerned. Unless there is significant (realistic) doubt as to the identity matching the ID.

In your words, yes, this it is still in practice. A recent story, not-fake-news a store employee asked for quote 'documents' the words were 'documents' for a Latino family to prove they were actually natural born American, "us Citizens" to be allowed to merely purchase groceries.

I may be rambling, but, this is realty that exists.

Well, fuck.

I can't get drunk enough without getting sick anymore. I have 6 beers and end up with the worst acid reflux the next day, headaches, whatever. This morning I actually threw up after 6 beers from last night, and I hardly got drunk. What gives?

It's kind of the only thing I look forward to after work. Fuck, it's like I'm too depressed to even get drunk anymore.
