Howdy /hooch/
Was wondering if any of you have a nice secretive place to drink on the job. My slave wage grocery store is right next to the woods which gives me a nice place to chug 2 beers on my 15 min breaks and 3 on lunches. Anyone else got a nice spot?

I don't normally drink at work because it would make my job harder, but I wouldn't really have to hide it if I wanted to have a beer for lunch or something like that. Alcohol is kinda part of my corporate culture, the home office does a weekly beer tasting social hour on Thursdays

I haven't worked since like December but I worked in a mine and everyone worked pretty well alone in different areas of the mine. Depending on how much of a prick your foreman was you could go all day without being checked on, or you could be checked on every hour.
On night shift I'd sneak a couple of beers in and my buddy would bring a joint and we'd get all fucked up behind an old building or something.

>>281228 That's interesting. The last place I worked at our boss was a raging alcoholic. He gave us crown royal bottles for christmas gifts which was nice and of course I drank it pretty quick but we'd find empty vodka and whiskey bottles in the back alley behind our building, right where he regularly parked. He also hired a sales guy from the liquor store down the street. In retrospect it's kind of depressing, but it was funny at the time. How do you feel about it being a cornerstone of your working environment?
>>281229
That gig sounds nice, apart from the strenuous physical labor. I'd give a good deal to have a job that enabled me to explore mines. What state was that? Assuming it was US?

>How do you feel about it being a cornerstone of your working environment?
It's been nice in my experience, everyone at my company is pretty mature and responsible. My manager is a really cool guy, he can stay out drinking with clients until 3 AM, go back to his hotel room to sleep until 6 AM, and then wake up and put in a full day of work, and then go back out drinking with clients again. I wouldn't even thinking of him as an alcoholic, he just likes to drink and schmooze.

The thing I really like is that my company pays for my drinks when I travel for business. I'm not supposed to get totally shitfaced on the company dime, two drinks per day is the "guideline," but I regularly do three or four sometimes and no one cares.

Oh nice, that sounds pretty comfortable. I only asked because in my experience the boss was absent a lot (regardless of if he was required or not to be at the actual establishment) and I can't help but think his drinking trickled down and infected morale in the employees. His underlings complained a lot about it, and that made a negative impression upon me. Well, that's cool that your people are responsible. Drawing a line is critical. I have trouble doing so but know that when it comes to business a certain level of responsibility is required to remain profitable.

Yeah, I have a hard time drawing the line sometimes myself, but I think that's more to do with who I am as a person than the company, I've just always had a powerful thirst. I think the key is just mentally separating business drinking from pleasure drinking and maintaining that mindset.

I can definitely understand the influencing thing though, there are people that I work with that didn't really drink before joining the industry.

Nova Scotia, actually. The place was alright to work in the summer but in the winter it was fucking brutal.
Not to mention you are on a retarded 4/2 12 hour days schedule. Only good thing about working there was the pay really. Would clear $4000 after taxes on a good month

Damn, that's more than I've ever grossed in a month. It reminds me of those oilers who work at the sites usually far from home but make a killing. I think I'd bitch down and peace out due to the harshness of it, even if I was able to get buzzed on the job.

Hey yo at one point the nice places weren't so nice either...

What does hooch think of drinking on the job when serious matters are concerned?
What if your surgeon was an alcoholic struggling and was performing your bypass either hungover or tipsy? What's really too real is that that's more than likely happened already. Honestly it frightens me to think that for something so delicate and serious you need to trust a person you just met.

He sounds cool. Buy him lunch sometime (no booze because he's probably at the point where boozing is work) and learn from him.

Went to work in a church installing commercial heat and air, one morning when I had half a bottle of titos vodka, I took a small funnel and an empty water bottle, filled it with vodka, started pouring shots and drank till i puked, then kept taking shots till I finished the whole bottle, Went to work and sipped on my water bottle all day, everyone could tell but no one said a word about it.

I’m fascinated how someone doesn’t end up fired for doing this, especially if your coworkers can tell you’re intoxicated and it affects your work. Lenient bosses? Sympathetic coworkers? Don’t get me wrong, I know functional alcoholics exist all over, but there’s a difference between them and people who get so drunk during work time that their work is clearly being affected

At my last job, the forklift driver was a drunk, and mistook the factory yard for some tokyo drift race-course. I was afraid that he well run me over and kill me. If caught, he would probably be prohibited from driving anything for years. He was coming into the building with at least 50km/h speed, stopping suddenly then offer beers for coworkers while he drinked his own.

when i delivered pie for papa johns, i would just put MD 20/20 in a sonic route 44 cup and treated it like a regular sonic drink. only people who knew were the other drivers who taught me the trick. and my manager who i was admittedly fucking. but she drank too, so whatever. best sex i ever had. god she was fuckin fine.

I used to work at a gas station when I was younger and I would just lock my self in the bathroom where I hid a pint the upper reservoir of the toilet and id just slam vodka till somebody knocked on the door. Now im a chef and I just keep cold rumple shooters in the walk in freezer.

when I was drinking more heavily, I'd just take shots at home before work, and bring some beer or wine to drink on the train/bus/walk home after work. drinking at work is a line I'd rather not cross

and I over hear him snoring shit in the bathroom. He constantly smells like alcohol.
His speech has a ridiculous stutter.
