I'm taking a long break from drinking in 2020.

This year was hard for me, I drank more than I generally ever have due to a bad breakup, losing friends due to my anxiety issues and losing pets and family members.

I binge drank. I partied at bars. I drank and met many people. And yes, while it did help at first with my social anxiety and introversion issues it also made me feel worse overall 24/7. My friend would come over, we'd drink two big bottles of whiskey. Split a case of beer/Mike's Hard lemonades and then call it a day. I'd be belligerent, annoying, too talkative and sometimes just a loudmouth douche. When generally while sober or even high I'm way more chill. I didn't like that side of me. It made being around other drunks more tolerable but it also started making me feel like shit. I'd wake up, have a terrible migraine, heart pounding, room spinning, diarrhea, vomit on the floor from the night before, one time I fell and split open my kneecap and almost had to get stitches from a drunken night of buffoonery. And then I'd start drinking again at 11 AM. And feel like complete shit. And the cycle continues. Not to mention then being sober would be a miserable awkward experience.

Drinking can be fun in *moderation* but don't overdo it, mang. It ain't worth it. I'm taking a long ass break. I can't promise to stop forever cause I can't keep that promise but man I need to start taking breaks... it's just too hard on the body. (And mind)

Good for you man.

I had similar experience, have never been able to drink like I used to. I enjoy a drink here and there and maybe 2 or 3 on special occasions, but hardly ever. Getting high is way better for me.

You still drank that night right? I saw your thread, scrolled down to see this post and got dissapointed seeing you probably ended up drinking. I'm an alcoholic who keeps fucking up too, I hope you do better.

Thanks, OP here. So far this has been a better year in terms of drinking for me.

I have only had 2 nights after new years where I had a few drinks. And after that, I've found a good replacement which is kava, damiana and CBD. Been mostly using those to relax and for social anxiety/depression or when I generally feel anxious or feel bad/get bad thoughts. It's been tough but it's actually gotten easier as of late. I recommend looking into a good alcohol replacement. After last year where I just went way too far with my drinking I definitely feel better lately without it in my life, for my physical and mental health. I still hang out with my drinking buddies, just less often and they respect my decision to stop (I will have a rare celebration drink, as I did for new years and for my birthday, but that was it) SLAYER and luck to you, my friend. It gets better. :)

What's Kava feel like? I'd like to try using it in place of alcohol as well. Along with Poppy Seed Tea every now and then.

It's very chill, just relaxes my muscles and eases my anxiety. I'd compare it to a light benzo or a few drinks. Rec trying some good noble root (i use kalm with kava)

I hope it's nothing like Phenibut. I absolutely detest Phenibut. It's probably the woret drug I've ever done next to DPH.

I think it's time to dry out, and find more beauty in the world. Best of luck, OP, and to all others taking some time away from the bottle.

Thanks, much appreciated and good luck to you and the others taking a break as well. Just know that it gets easier. Honestly, for me now 2 months later (getting on 3) I rarely think of drinking anymore, and my drinking friend has been very understanding of my desire to slow down. Also there's good alternatives out there, if you need *something* Be sure to look into natural alternatives (Kratom, kava, damiana, CBD flower, ashwagandha, L-theanine, the list goes on)
