So I know the "type" of liquor has no effect on how fucked up you get (only the ABV matters) but I was thinking of getting into gin just to try something new.

What are your guys' thoughts on gin? Should I just stick with mixed vodka drinks and whiskey?

Why are you asking strangers' permission to try gin lol? Try it and see if you like it

Gin & tonic is a classic. The gin chemically neuters the bitterness of the tonic even scientists know about this and the British learned about it back in the day. Today you can easily find tonics with natural quinine and that's what you should get. Fever tree is a popular brand. Don't get schweppes that uses an artificial taste of quinine, but if you're a poorfag you can switch to the fake schweppes later if you want to save money because it's way cheaper.

gin is great with fizzy citrus mixers. carbonated lemonade, perrier if you like it dry or san pelligrino for sweet. grapefruit, pineapple, lime, lemon, orange, all good mix for gin

plus you can get great flavoured gins, lemon/lime/orange gin is delicious, if I had the money I'd drink shit like this all the time instead of supermarket brand

Not a big fan of gin, it's funky as hell and the good stuff is really expensive. It tastes like alcohol made from pine needles. Mixed with pineapple juice though it tastes pretty decent.

was never a fan of gin. Too much time working with downing, clearing pine trees,?
Yea, Gin and tonic works well though. Why does tonic water work with vodka gin?

I'm a wine guy, but the only liquor I "like" is gin, and only because I saw several Soviet movies with men drinking Beefeater's like water with every meal and for every occasion.

I like the taste of the pine needles.

Get some Tanqueray, can't go wrong with it if you're new to gin. Gin & tonics are great. Not sure about drinking it straight.

Incorrect even Scheppes has real quinine in it. it can be proven by holding a black light to it the quinine glows

Yeah I can drink bottom shelf gin no problem (like supermarket own brand) but anything else that cheap is disgusting, not sure why. Like I'd never drink supermarket brand whiskey/rum/etc (I hate vodka anyway) but I can drink gin that's £15/Litre no issue

Gin is the best cocktail ingredient ever. You can put it in so many different things. Negronis are amazing, as is gin and tonic. One thing that is underrated is ginorade: pour gin directly into a Gatorade (or Powerade) bottle. It's great with lemon lime or fruit punch flavors and tastes way better than vodka imo.

It's also nice to drink straight with a nice big chunk of meat.

I'd like to refute this. It may not make a difference in how drunk you are but I definitely noticed a difference of the type of drunk I am between different types of alcohol and I have a LOT of experience with drinking. Similarly to how different strains of weed provide different buzzes. I think it was something to do with fermentation or distillation processes and what types of herbs or additives there are.
Like for some reason I'll drink jaegermeister and go looking for a fight and I'll drink beer and be everyone's friend at the same level of drunk.

since there's a lot of canadians on these boards, I thought I'd share my favourite gin, made in ontario

get some campari & vermouth as well, and make negronis out of it! gin and tonic is also pretty good :o)

Tried this exact same bottle and can confirm in great.
Sad that many people i know can just settle on Bombay.

If you haven't already tried Hendricks gin, I strongly recommend it. Tastes amazing and no matter how much of it I drink (to a degree), I don't get a hangover.

Gin has a unique taste and works very well in certain mixed drinks, there's a reason for why gin and tonic is so famous.

I was a strictly whiskey/rum drinker for years but as I drank more and more often it started being disgusting to me, I would always mix it with (diet)coke and eventually it was like too sweet and syrupy and cloying and I couldn't do it any more, at some point I tried gin and found that gin and lemonade goes down like water, always thought I would hate it because I hate vodka and I thought gin is just vodka with some herbs in it but for some reason it's infinitely more drinkable

I was told that gin is for day drinkers because they can mix it with their soda and you won't be able to smell the booze on their breath.
Martha Chundlehood - Fri, 21 Aug 2020 09:14:49 EST QCRAZz4s No.284807 Reply
Gin is alright for day drinking but its very herb heavy so it does have some smell.
The best alcohol for no smell is vodka. Shit mixes with anything and its the most neutral spirit you can buy.
