Any experiences with absinthe?

You can get it in the states now. Try it for the novelty, but its $70/bottle here.

Like >>286295 said it's fun to try a couple times at nice bars. Some that I go to have neat absinthe spoons and water dispensers specifically meant for it. Other than that it's like any other anise-based liqueur. The amount of thujone in commercially produced absinthe is negligible, so if you're looking for the effects of wormwood you're better off looking for an extract of that instead

As someone who generally prefers drugs>alcohol (i know i know booze is a drug to but you know what i mean) is a real, good quality bottle of Absinthe really a different experience then just drinking whiskey or vodka over the course of a night? Do you actually notice a more "psychedelic" or just a heavier drunk?

No, you don't. It's just alcohol basically. If you want, you can try getting pure wormwood and using it and combining with alcohol... that's a better bet. But absinthe itself is just overpriced alc imo. Also, if you're in america, good luck on getting "real" absinthe. I say that as an american now living in europe.

Absinthe is just overprice Pastis imo

wikipedia says Thujone is a GABA antagonist (opposite to alcohol) so I don't see what it would do except make you more alert while drunk. Was there ever such a thing as "psychedelic" absinthe or was it always bullshit

I could swear that ive had experiences with absinth that went beyond merely alc. But I dont even know why, ive had other wormwood based spirits but nothing is ever reported from them. Yet doing Kubler (EU version) I got some light psychedelic experience, and I expected nothing, it wasnt even at the top of my mind, yet there it was. Also the brand Pere Kermann feels different than just alc. But with commersial shit its like a lottery, even with EU absinth, most of the time it wont be there. Like i said i cant explain it. It should be there in other wormwood shit like the swedish Bäska Droppar and such, yet it isnt. I dont understand it but I know what i felt and been chasing that experience again.

I do wonder what some of the EU absinthe that you described that did produce the effects would be like combined with an actual psychedelic, hard to say. Maybe someday if i ever have the time/money/resources to try it ill see what happens!
