So it's my understanding that intellectual property laws only prohibit people from profiting off of someone else's IP and that it doesn't stop people from just using their IP for themselves, like you can draw a picture of mickey mouse and put him on your fridge, but if you try and sell that picture, Disney would sue your ass. Is this correct, or do they just not go after people who use it for personal purposes because they don't really care enough but it's actually illegal? Also, say you were to just give that picture away, or you built something, say a coffee maker, from schematics in someone else's patent and then just gave that away for free, would that be legal?
