Have you read Kafka and A Road Side Picnic yet?

I love Kafka, not read Roadside Picnic. For Kafka's novels, I dug The Trial and Amerika, but The Castle got too repetitive for me. Although it was the last of them I read and maybe I was just suffering Kafka burnout. I hate to sound cliche but Metamorphosis is still his greatest hit. I know there's many interpretations of it, but I'm partial to it being a metaphor for mental illness, with the supernatural elements being in the depressed narrator's head while his family deals with the fact that their beloved son/brother has suddenly come down with crippling depression.

yes a book so rich with human struggle conveyed as action junk that it is like crack cocaine except that some of it is lost in export, i know the one.

Hard to be a God is also good. I disagree tho; It's not hard.

No one knows this dude of which you speak. He simply doesn't exist.

actually the castle drove me insane and only years into my depression i realized why, its an excellent depiction of that.
i liked roadsides idea of almost like a post documentary, dealing with the normality after the visit. for some reason i hoped for some more alien and philosophical stuff, but the concept is good

I fucking hated Amerika. I know that Kafka's gift is to make his readers feel disgust, but it was just too much for me. The main character wasn't just naive, he was straight up mentally disabled. I felt angry and disgusted the whole time reading it, after I finished I felt like I just wasted my time and ruined my mood.

Haven't touched another Kafka's work since.
I dropped the Trial midway through, it got too boring and sickening.

Definitely a very underrated genius. Trying to describe or complement him is almost a Kafkaesque struggle itself. I think you really have to experience Kafka to get Kafka

None of his writings made much sense or had any profound meaning until I got older and realized they were perfect metaphors for many of my life struggles
