I have a bunch of songs that I like. But the only way I store them for later and listen to them is by making a bunch of bookmarks on my computer from Youtube. I've never owned an Ipod or whatever. If I want to start cataloging my music and listening to it while driving my car, what should I do? What would you recommend? Thanks for any help, mang

I'm a big fan of iTunes, but the best version was a while ago, they keep adding crap and taking away stuff I used with updates. Still, it's been great keeping things tidy and nicely tagged.

As for playing in your car, again, my iPod has been my trusty sidekick for 10 years! I don't go anywhere without it. And before that an iPod Mini and before that a generation 2 one (only upgraded because I filled them up - the gen 2 one still works!)... my car doesn't have an aux cable so I use one of those radio transmitters that broadcast your iPod to a blank frequency.

<-Not my one but isn't it cute?

I personally like to categorize it by [folder:Artist Name] / [folder: year - album name]. Works for me. I'd like to start doing it by genres, too, but I figure a lot of music wouldn't fit into one, so fuck it.

As for your car, maybe you can plug an aux adapter into it? I bought one from amazon and plugged it into the back of my car's audio system (it's a toyota corolla fyi).

Or just use spotify and download the music? (they let you do that afaik?)

For digital files:
I generally store all my music on an external harddrive, i also rip from cds in wav format so they take up a good amount of space, more than what my 128gb macbook harddrive could handle.

I use itunes, foobar for mac sucks, but itunes i can sort by song, album and recently added, also right click get album artwork is great for aesthetics.

I do have an ipod touch and an ipod classic. my ipod classic recently broke. ipod touch is pretty cool, i leave mine in airplane mode and so it works like a normal mp3 player, i havent looked at it in atleast a week and i know it'll still have charge.

For physical media:
For records i sort by genre and then sort by artist. i do this because i dont want to be flicking through my beatles records and get a whole bunch of beethoven and i dont want to be going through my beethoven records and getting a bunch of beatles records, so i seperate them.

Cds its kind of like "whatever i listened to last is on the top"

>>453674 Mine is this one. The battery it came with only lasted about a year and a half but getting it replaced at a wee phone shop improved the lifespan a lot.

It can't hold all the music I have, I keep a selection of about 13,000 on it for when I'm out and about - all my favourites and a bunch of new stuff I've not listened to, like bedroom bandcampers and deep cuts - >>453677 so Spotify never has what I'm after

I really should have gotten an iPod Classic before they discontinued them. My iPhone X is 256 GB though I switched from Apple Music to Spotify. I still got music I purchased on iTunes but haven’t really synced it in a while.

I keep all my music (161 GB) in my Downloads folder, organized by: Artist --> Album (Year), in alphabetical order, occasionally acquiring both MP3 and lossless for iTunes and Foobar respectively. Always with album art and infodata filled out and lyrics too if they're worth transcribing.

My record collection (albeit small) is organized by genre, in order of most recently acquired, same with CD's

Funny that this thread got bumped, because my poor baby has been quite ill the past couple of weeks. A bit of googling suggests the motherboard might need replaced :( Though I'm trying to identify the root cause. Shuffling through my playlist, every now and then a song will take like 20 seconds to load. There's weird corruption on artwork for my own songs, so there's maybe something to do with how I'm saving the artwork from photoshop? It might also have something to do with the large number of songs I have with weird characters in the filename maybe messing up the database...

I downloaded this off youtube recently and my iPod just gives up and skips it when I try to play it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkRx-JuXS0s

Sad times...

You should at least download your youtube bookmarks my man!
YOUTUBE-DL is one of the most crucial open source projects out there right now, because it allows us to archive streaming video which could be removed at any time from these highly centralized websites. It also works for Vimeo, every news website, and pretty much everything else you can imagine https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/

I keep it all in. Mp3,. wav, and other formats. All saved and ID'ed correctly (took years for over 5,000 songs). Have all files on my phone and use power Amp as a player.

Use a youtube to Mp3 Downloader, there's multiple I downloaded one and can copy paste a bunch of YouTube links into it and it gives me the. Mp3s. Having your music is so much better than needing wifi/data to listen!

Google play music.
Anything not on therr, I just upload to my account so it's there. Then I can access all my musicceasily via my Google Homes or chromecasts.

Is YouTube music any good? Thought I might look into it as a creator.
