Soundcloud, Bandcamp and so on?

Everything, but mostly chill-hop, electronic, hip-hop, epic or anything thats good.

Nothing that requires a sign-up.

Ektoplazm is an absolute treasure trove of free music if you like psy genres. Have to wade through a lot of generic stuff (IMO) to find what resonates with you but according to the front page they have ~25 million albums so chances are pretty fuckin good they'll have something you like. A couple of my personal favourites I've found there (for context I tend to lean toward more slow/groovy music with strong/detailed soundscapes, but that isn't actually purely ambient):

Krusseldorf - Fractal World
>ambient techno vibe, glitchy, very detailed, one of my all time favourite albums tbh

Floating Planet - Fractal Wortex
>very nice EP that synthesizes of psychill and rock

Akara - The World Beyond
>beautiful synthesis of psychill and classical, although their first album was more heavy on the electronic whereas this one is more light-touch and leans more strongly to classical, I actually prefer this one (their first album is not available for free here but it can be purchased on their Bandcamp), took me a little bit to get used to the fake language vocals but once I got over that hump it really feels transcendent

And some other free stuff I really like that's not from Ektoplazm:

Archive - Londinium
>while this probably shouldn't technically be hosted here and available for free, this is possibly my #1 favourite album of all time. one of the great somewhat unsung masterpieces of trip hop

Balancé - Good balance for all
>somewhat amateurish but fun almost poppy psychill, second track is very catchy, last track is great and has French vocals

The Polish Ambassador - Pushing Through The Pavement
>hip hop album, nice electronic beats and good variety throughout, couple tracks are misses imo but some are great

Bump for more good free music

Don't really think self-shilling is in the spirit of the thread (but maybe OP can correct me on that). We have dedicated threads for that.

Forget exact name but something like YouTube-DL gui, look it up you can get decent quality. And you can barely tell the difference anyway (coming from someone who also owns .flac and other high quality audio files)

And when you're talking free you're generally talking compromise

There does exist music that is available for free in high quality straight from the artist/label though, which is I think the point of the thread.
