Fuckin A man, RIP
This one really hurts in particular, Peart and Rush were the main reason I got into drumming as a young lad

wow, one of my mainstays for music since? Keg parties and just hanging out listening to rush. Our whole group, all the stoners in jr and high school. Very saddened the moment I heard this. Farewell.

It's not old but it's not super young. I mean there's drummers who had gone further downhill than he had by 40 but men dying in their 60s is hardly shocking.

Again another well lived life. Bit short for my liking but I'd rather salute all the hard work and shit he's done. If he'd died 50 years ago would this thread be posted? Yet the world would be a worse place.

Neil Peart. Fucking legend.

less serious comment: fuck. No one else can do this for him? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bn4IprJww8w

Well drum solos are gay and rush is annoying so, yeah. I mean, vinnie paul died recently. That is a far bigger loss. Well not really, hellyeah is fucking atrocious.

But I honestly just hate rush to tell you the truth.

Vinnie Paul and Dimebag was a sum of the parts deal.

Depending on how your bread is buttered there is Devin Townsend. Or Dopethrone. Or Olde. And fucking Voivod, The Wake was a trip and they still have it. I mean it's hardly the centre of rockingexcellence but Canada does alright.

Post Society is probably one of the best metal releases in the past 5 years, really fucking impressive for a band that old.

>Vinnie Paul
I like Pantera but he's nowhere in Neil Peart's league and there's a shitload of metal drummers better than him.

They released another album after Post Society and I fucking love it.

And yeah, metal has a lot of very good drummers and a lot of over rated ones. Neil Peart was outstanding whatever the genre. Making good music isn't the same as being a good musician. Some people manage both. Rush definitely achieved that at least a few times.

Yeah m8, I get it is subjective and all but that is just wrong. Listen to more metal.

I don't like Pantera but know what Vinnie Paul did for metal drumming, same with Gene Hoglan and Joey. Neither are that incredible but they inspired metal drummers and upcoming generations. I attribute George Kollias with at least 50% of the trends towards really extreme metal drumming.

I'd say basically all metal drummers are good if they are playing in a band with any staying power. Shit is hard. I can't really speak on Peart as I loathe rush but I wouldn't say he is a metal drummer to begin with.

That guy is the most incredible drummer the metal scene has to offer as far as songwriting and skill combined. In my opinion.

I listen to a shitload of metal bro, Post Society is an incredible ep, best thing Voivod has done since the 90s. Even though bands like Vektor and Droid are really good, Voivod pretty much proved they are still the masters with that release. I guess I can see how Vinnie Paul and Joey can get kids into metal drumming. Gene Hoglan and George Kollias rule, definitely influential as fuck drummers. As far as extreme metal drummers go, Mike Smith is probably my favorite, dude is a fucking best.

I wouldn't have 3 drum sets and a couple dozen cymbals if it wasn't for Joey and the self-titled slipknot album. A bit of a shame I stopped playing. Not to brag but after a while in music school and a decade and a half of practice, I could've easily gone pro but alas, the scene isn't here to get in on. Oh well. Probably for the better, I fucking love /dis/ lol

Acch, you could have used your necromancy powers to rez him instead of this thread! But it's well enough that you did, I wanna mention that I've been playing the fuck out of some Rush lately, 'specially Hold Your Fire which has a lot of songs I'm only starting to appreciate now. RIP Neil Peart
