Hi guys..so I smashed my finger between a steel beam and a wooden post today. I'm wondering if I'm going to lose my fingernail or not. There is a LOT of swelling where my fingerprint is but my nail isn't showing bruising or any blood underneath whatsoever. I smashed it about 8 hours ago. I can still bend my finger and I've been holding it above my head whenever I can to reduce throbbing; put ice on it about an hour after it happened and have been applying heat once every few hours. Also there's a little pain on my first joint.

OP here

Thanks for the info guys. The swelling has already gone down TREMENDOUSLY and there is no discoloration or anything under my fingernail. I now have near-complete movement and I can feel the sensation of touch on my whole finger. I'm still applying heat and I will start alternating between hot and cold.

Thanks again!

A nail would start to grow underneath, if it starts to turn black.
A few days later you would start to see the progression.

No real bit deal. the upper nail will hide, not the injury, but will come off eventually.
Showing a new nail.

Can I fix my bloodied dumps by eating large amounts of crunchy fiber nuggets and fiber one? I'm on an insanely high protein diet and if I'm not careful I can break over 100g protein in a day

I think the body can only use 30g of protien in one sitting, or a day... something like that. So your body is just converting all the surplus protein and storing it. Yeah, you should eat fiber.

Wellbuturin

So I've got a script for Vyvanse and Wellbuturin, tried quite a few pharmaceutical combinations for depression and anxiety but this combination seems to work best for me. I know a decent amount about vyvanse, and am aware of how it affects my system, I take it on an as-needed basis.
I've been concerned with the lack of concrete information about possible longterm side effects of taking Wellbuturin. I've been on a variety of antidepressants but this is the first medication that really made a difference, I'd be willing to accept some damage in exchange for a drastically better quality of life, but I want to know now what organ systems may be affected so I can look out for damage. I know to watch my heartrate and bloodpressure on vyvanse, and take care to hydrate, nourish, and clean both myself and my teeth when I take it to keep side effects down to a minimum.
Does wellbuturin have long term consequences? Is there anything I can do to possibly avoid these?

Thank you, that somewhat puts my heart at ease, that's good to know. I'd be more open, but there's just so much at stake right now. I disclosed that I discovered how well vyvanse worked for my by taking it illicitly, and have been pretty open about my continuing use of weed to bring the energy down at the end of the day. What I haven't been as open about has been the amount I (functioninally) smoke, because I once again don't want to risk losing the prescriptions I have, as they are working so well for me.

Also I have noticed some mild arrhythmia once in a while with the vyvanse but without a guaranteed alternate source I'm not about to jeopardize what I've got going here to ask some questions. Sad, but that's the way it is.

Wellbutrin is great for weight loss, at least for me. I am prescribed it for depression, but I actually take it to keep from gaining weight, as I am a foodlover/binge eater and I tend to hover around 180-210 pounds over a week or two if I am not medicated. On Welburin, I am a solid 180 no matter what I eat. Very little exercise required, maybe walking a mile a day.

I'm depressed anyway, as I eat for comfort, but I get the best of both worlds with Welbutrin.

I do believe the effect can waver over time. I began to notice that I was gaining weight again and asked my doctor to toss in the Instant Release Wellbutrin on top of my Extended Release, and BAM, I dropped 20 pounds in about two weeks.

Somebody really needs to study the weight loss value here, because I don't think I am a special snowflake.

Interesting, I'm catching myself slipping into binge eating on occasion. I'm relatively active and eat alright, so it's not too impactful yet, but I don't really notice it affecting my appetite too much.

Then again I'm fucked up in general so I may have a few systems out of whack.

Trouble peeing

When I do opiates (pst mostly) I have a really hard time peeing, it doesn't hurt or anything, it just won't come out no matter how bad I have to go, I've read this is a relatively common thing that happens.

The only thing that helps is this very weird method I accidentally learned. If I put the stream of water from a shower head on a certain spot just above my dick hole, I get this super weird sensation and it forces me to pee.

So I basically have two questions:

1.) What is this sensation that forces me to pee and why does it happen?

2.) What are some less involved methods to help me pee when I'm on opiates? (I've tried trickling water noises, putting my hands under various temperatures of water, and just pressing my bladder area, none of these have helped)

I pee by the trickle sounds, or letting warm/hot water run over my hand. Seems these don't work for you. I have been prescribed opiates and used a lot in a short amount of time, so I know what you're talking about - it is frustrating. Is it not also with your poopoo? Constipation sucks!

Your weird method is worth looking into for me, as I struggle to pee a lot for no reason at all it seems. So, thanks.

I can't answer your questions, but I can't empathize! Feel glad you found some way of peeing. It may be the hot water effect that seems to work for most people, but you're focusing it on a very nerve-y area and so the dullness that opiates are giving you is breached? That is totally off-the-wall garbage theory from my head, but there you are.

Also, I find it hard to pee when I am frustrated or thinking rapidly. Opiates tend to energize me, so I do think differently on them. Pay attention to your thoughts, it might be that your body is overwhelmed by the shower spray and so it pees regardless of the pee thoughtblocks.

More theories out of my asshole, which struggles to poopoo at times, but not today. I'm shitting all over your thread.

Have a nice day. I hope you pee whenever and wherever you want today.

So about a month ago, I got what I assume to be some sort of scratch or skin opening around the upper part of by buttfold. Instead of just healing and going away like a normal wound though, it seems to be constantly producing this weird growth, sort of like a scab. When I remove the scab the same thing just regrows again after a while. I just wanted to ask if anyone knows what this could be before I have to go to the doctor, or if this could be some sort of symptom for something more worrying.

I know that the answer is none...but tonight is a friend's going away party. I have a really sore throat (getting over a nasty cold/infection) and have been taking some Otc pain killers to ease the pain. I know acetaminophen is the worst, but between ASA and ibuprofen which would you guys recommend if I'm planning on having a few drinks.

Alcohol will function sufficiently as a pain-reliever. Do not use acetaminophen or you'll tax your liver. Do not use ibuprofen or you'll over-acidify your stomach.

Truth be told, you'll be fine with either on only a few drinks. Just don't over-drink, and don't make a habit of mixing them. And, ask yourself if you really need an additional pain-reliever for your throat.

clonidine/metoprolol no longer effective?

This isn't the greatest place to ask but I'm feeling somewhat desperate, especially knowing from experience my local hospital is the 2nd worst in the state and the urgent care clinics around here aren't always open and NEVER prescribe anything new. (Best I ever got was a clonidine refill once because my numbers counted as an emergency.)
I'll try to keep it somewhat brief. The short version is I'm a slowly recovering alcoholic and had my last relapse maybe 4 days ago. I'm clearly going through some withdrawal relatively mild withdrawal (vs rather than puking 50 times in day wishing for death). However for the first time ever my pills haven't had any significant effect on my BP which I absolutely can't get below 133/90 even overdosing slightly. I get the sedation and it gets rid of that clonidine withdrawal but the most difference I saw was about 10 points after my 1st dose waking up.
What I'm wondering is why these pills suddenly aren't having their full effect anymore because this hasn't once happened in 2 full years of taking clonidine and maybe 3 months on metoprolol. Is that something that's possible in time or did I maybe get a bad batch or what?
I even considered the possibility that my dr. gave me a placebo (assuming they're even allowed to do that these days) but the pills all look identical to before.
What the hell could cause this and could I be given something similar to clonidine? I can't just stop taking this suddenly, despite my dumbass dr. thinking a beta blocker alone will do me and if the drug suddenly doesn't work any more I have no fucking clue how to deal with this.
I mean the best I can think of is going to a decent hospital over an hour away but I'm also concerned they'd either not help or not do it without me signing up for an inpatient detox clinic which I don't feel I really need now. Well that was more than I expected to type.

tl;dr - Why the hell would clonidine (and possibly my beta blocker - not taking full dose always) suddenly be having all the normal effects except the lowered BP I need to get some rest and be able to function? And I'm not sure it's that urgent but I can't see a dr. that might help at all without a long drive I can't really afford and don't feel up to.

I'm glad to hear you had a good sleep. I'm sure your body has been crying out for that. Maybe if the herb is working for you then try that when necessary.

Medical professionals have a real problem with patients who come in with a bunch of unfounded google wisdom. I can imagine he might have a bias and refuse it. You have to shop around for doctors who listen to their patient, but don't indulge their suspicion.

I didn't want to say it before for fear of sounding like a waiting room pamphlet, but what about alternative methods to lower BP? I would recommend cutting down on sodium if you haven't already. Meditation and marijuana are some great natural remedies for stress. Take some time for yourself, treat yourself to tranquility, however you find it.

Been doing much better recently after tracking my doses more carefully. I think at least part of the problem was not taking nearly enough metoprolol.
My latest script was for 100mg twice a day but that amount left me completely incapacitated with my pulse dropping to around 50. The original was 50mg once a day which doesn't quite cut it so I'll let my dr. know about it. 50mg twice a day seems to be about perfect for me.
Woke up for once at 115/65, pulse 60. I didn't even need any sedative to get to sleep. Don't remember the last time I woke up not feeling like I needed one pill or another immediately.
I feel a bit ridiculous that the problem boiled down to something so simple after all that frantic and sometimes paranoid speculation.

Posted this in /benz/, someone said to come here.~

I'm getting sick and tired of having to use benzos for anxiety. Any relief I get from them returns tenfold when I come off of them. Sometimes I can't even hear what people are saying directly to me because I am so consumed with myself, (how I'm breathing, what I'm doing with my hands, etc.)

What has worked for you guys for anxiety (besides benzos)? I'm currently doing an intensive outpatient program, which helps to a degree because at least I'm talking about it with people now. I'm also taking Remeron and Gabapentin (for the last 3 months), but they don't help. My counselor at IOP recommended cognitive behavioral therapy., but I'm interested to hear what has worked for you guys aside from pharmaceuticals.

Does the US govt have some kind of central psychiatric/medical record on me? Or is it rather scattered across every place you go to in their own database.

If I wanted to jump through the hoops, would I be able to request this personal record? If so, from who? How?

This /med/ group of stoners has usually failed me in the past, but we'll see.

Note, I should be sleeping but I'll try to help.
If you have been prescribed scheduled drugs, say codiene there is the PDMP prescription drug management program. Not doctors but pharmacies report all narcotics to this, it is the law. Doctors have to have a DEA approval and # to prescribe these drugs but can also participate in the program. Doctors can access info to all narcotics prescribed. Stuff like antibiotics are not in this database.

Doctors and the netwrok they belong to if any can share info if you sign something letting your info be made availabll upon request of medical doctors. But not the general public, or doctos office secretaries,, etc.

I'' try to find a few examples later if wanted. In short you have privacy protection rights, but hospitals and such can share info between doctors from what I have seen. If you wanted info, like a hospital stay you would have to request from the hospital, or the healthcare network the hospital is affiliated with. As well as doctors.

Let anybody here know if you have more questions if I didn't really help cover what you need.

Maybe not literally, but we know that you:
eat sugar -> body detects high sugar -> pancreas pumps out insulin
and large amounts of sugar are stressful to the pancreas, so I'm wondering if we know of any proven ways to decrease that stress somehow.

I'm thinking, what if you ate a high protein meal before eating the sugar? If your stomach has a harder time breaking down these complex proteins, then maybe it would create a timed release effect on the sugar in the stomach.
Which leads to asking: how does the pyloric valve even decide to when to open and close? Is it when the entire contents of the stomach are properly digested? If so, then that first theory would work, assuming that it's the intestines that detect the sugar and send the signal to the pancreas.

I've also heard something about cinnamon helping.

So how do I eat ice cream without getting diabetes?

Balance your diet. Ice-cream alone won't give you diabetes, but poor exercise, little/no breaks from sugary foods, poor hydration and being a mindless, gaping hole for unhealthy foods will. Just read the back of labels more, jeez.

Really annoying how people want to cheat the limits. Can't focus? Take methyphenidrate. Haunted by psychic burdens? Take a benzo. Diabetes exists where mindfulness doesn't.
