don't fucking give anti-anxiety meds to alcoholics and "recovered" alcoholics. they get hooked on them and then they end up dead because guess what alcohol is an anti-anxiety med and they are already hooked on that. I am so fucking sick of seeing this. Don't do it. It's fucking murder, if they can't afford therapy let them go back on fucking alcohol if that is all they can afford

rant over

i'm talking about months or years later when the person with a history of alcoholism goes to you with the anxiety they'd previously been treating with alcohol

The medical approach to alcohol detox is using benzodiazapines. Even if knowing that person(s) may just start drinking again. Past and or present alcohol dependence is not necessarily a reason to absolutely not prescribe benzodiazapines for anxiety or other reasons. But should be taken into consideration. The benefits should be considered to outweigh possible negatives. Such is what practicing medicine is essentially founded on.
