Is there any otherwise-safe way to induce a permanent state of ageusia or a daily maintenance supplement/medication that could cause it, where this effect is desired?

I don't know much about it, but I bet there's a way to fry your tongue's tasting ability, not unlike how we can destroy our hearing or eyesight (by airhorn addiction and screen-staring respectively).

There are some foods out there that can change tastes into other tastes though. Miraculin is a compound in a strange fruit (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synsepalum_dulcificum) that makes sour foods like lemons taste sweet. I'd love to try it.

Miraculin's cool. As far as frying tasting ability, the other two are based on overwhelming amounts of stimuli but I can't think of how you'd achieve that same thing with flavor
