This isn't meant to be a claim about literally all MMA fans or anything-- I'm a fan myself, albeit a casual one-- but why do I see so many self-proclaimed MMA fans (and sometimes practitioners) getting super fucking salty about kung fu movies and so on? They're fictional. They're pretend. It's okay for them not to be super realistic.

I understand getting annoyed when people see wire-fu shit and expect a real fight to be like that, but that's kind of the fault of people who take a movie that exists for entertainment to be 100% true, isn't it?

Also, this scene won awards for how well it drew on actual MMA techniques but choreographed them into an exciting fight scene for the big screen:

Doonie Yen and Sammo Hung kind of started that trend with their thriller S.P.L., they pulled out some MMA moves along with their usual wing chun and Jeet Kune Do styles.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4ruXnuLtkk

They're two of the last filmmakers in Hong Kong who actually know their shit. Everything else is just model/actress/whatevers on wires with a lot of CGI who probably trained for a week.

Donnie, Sammo, Colin Chou, Yuen Biao, Wu Jing, there aren't many of the real martial artists left in Honkers.

Check this one out, with Donnie.

I haven't seen people get mad about stuff like that but then again I try not to associate with people who take life too seriously or can't take a joke, I've been doing MMA for years and I don't mind that people make fake fights in movies, they look cool and are entertaining, it's like watching Lord of the rings, it's just fantasy if I want to see a real fight I can watch UFC or ask another black belt at my dojo for a spar, that being said I can totally see some gymcel getting all mad about something like that

Practical Martial Arts and Severe Pain

I spent a few years as a kid at pretty crap karate classes, but there was never any sparring or almost anything other than rote air training. I’ve been interested for some time in learning an effective combat martial art to actually defend myself, due to frequent family disputes ending violently.

Unfortunately, while I’m reasonably young (late 20’s) I am also considerably disabled. I take a high daily dose of methadone to be able to walk, and still spend 1-2 days per week almost entirely in bed due to severe joint problems. There is a degree of mechanical damage but my primary limitation is due to the effects of pain. It impacts all joints, but usually 2-4 joints are giving me trouble at any point in time. I have good days where that is almost unnoticeable, and bad days where I need support to stand (wish I had a cane). I would like to find something practical I could learn that I could both practice and use as someone considerably disabled.

I am 5’11” and quite lean, with little muscle or fat. I am prepared to spend time working as needed to work on that if relevant, within my physical capabilities. I just don’t want to lose any more fights to batshit crazy fat guys or morons with 2x4s. I’m aware that this will need to be an extended effort, that I would be walking in with practically zero and will face more difficulty and frustration than most people coming in off off the street. It’s worth it if I can stop some of the attacks against me and not have to wail about how ~awful~ they are kicking the shit out of a disabled person, it’s clearly apparent my family is shitty and doesn’t care.

Get pepper spray, a taser and a baton, and practice accuracy, speed and getting it out from your pocket quickly and unexpectedly. You dont need to train martial arts to defend yourself as long as you carry a non lethal weapon with you and can use it effectively. A street fight will last literally 5 seconds. I recommend pepper spray (in gel form, more accurate, resistant to wind and harder to hurt yourself with) its most effective on raging drunks with high pain tolerance, and you wont acvidentally kill anyone.
Otherwise you might want to try light boxing or jiu jitsu, but training will surely put strain on your joints.

I can point to a few good instructors who specialise in martial arts for the disabled.

Cole Rogers, Fightability
Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita

Grandmaster Carlito Bonjoc Jr., Cadiz-Lapu Lapu Escrima

Hanshi Tim Broussard, Komuso Ryu
cerebral palsy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3BuvyG9gDo

They manage quite a lot with even less than you describe yourself as having, so I'm sure if you could contact any of them they'd have better advice than any of the chairforce warriors on this board, myself included.

That being said...

For the joint problems, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais Method, or DDP Yoga, and a lot of omega 3 fish oil and turmeric as antiinflammatories, and a lot of greens in your diet.

For self defence, a cane.

For unarmed, I suggest this as a starting point.

It's that time again, UFC 247 with Jon Bohneny Bones as main event. While we have same decent matchups in this card the real question is will Jon Jones put his tomato can matchup over again like he's done the last few times to give the illusion that the UFC's actually giving him difficult opponents? At last we shall truly see. Anyways UFC 247 thread

We need a new sport.
Some kind of Kumite, or UFC.

Something where the only rules are - No biting or eye gouges.

This is what UFC once was - before the pussies and religious people got involved.

No rules, no weight divisions - a real fighting championship.

We need something like this back.
Something like Bloodsport with vandamme - the kumite.
Rules have ruined UFC and all other fighting championships.

Honestly, Cyborg is really overrated for what she's actually capable of in the ring but given that this is BelLOLtor I have a feeling she's probably going to easily take the win which is what Bellator probably wants considering they need a somewhat famous female MMA star to compliment others in the company and make the brand more noticeable

TL;DR: Borg

Seriously thought, fucking pathetic performance by cowboy. I mean I knew he absolutely wasn't going to win but holy fuck how can a supposed "veteran" be THAT bad. I've seen journeymen who probably would have performed better, it was so bad that it legitimately made people think it was an actual fix.

I don't think Jorge is 'champ material' in the traditional sense.
He's been open about not giving a fuck about the "sissy belt match" between Kamaru and Colby.

The models are changing
>beat the top guys
>defend your belt against any and all
>fight stylistically bad matchups to prove your style is dominant

Nobody wants to see the wrestler vs. striker garbage we've been watching for 20 years. The UFC has done well in super fight matchmaking, and the numbers will certainly prove it when Kamaru Colby doesn't break 500k buys.

If Jorge fights 5 more times, given the landscape now, my picks are:
>Conor
>Dan Hardy coming back in 2020 in Top 5 shape
>Nate rematch
>Leon Edwards
>Douglas Lima

If Tony comes back and loses against Khabib, I'd like to see him go up and Jorge Tony would be awesome.

But no, I don't think he beats Usman and I don't care for that match.

UFC is fucking lame
rules are pretty womanly too
No strikes or kicks to the back of the opponent or vulnerable areas of the body
Takedowns only

Obviously bulking up is the only advantage

Anyone else have a rudimentary style built on childhood self defense and early adult drunken brawls? I took TKD as a kid and got a way with front kick jabbing and sneaking in dominant hand jabs to the nose with a left straight follow in a one point stance, if that did't work they would notice and not fall for it again, so it was freestyle after that. Roundhouses to back of leg when available. My groundgame is less than ass due to wrasslin in fights. What have you guys developed what are some good additions? Not going to learn a style just Bruce Lee style grab moves and master them kind of thing.

everyone headhunts in a street fight so high elbow guard. it's the best for protecting your head but leaves you vulnerable to body shots which they'll never throw. i use this with a passable sidekick i learned in TKD and one season of wrestling experience. i'm always shadowboxing and thinking of gameplans that i would use against top level MMA fighters just as a mental exercise.

Unless you're also one, and maybe even then given the risk-to-reward ratio, the best style in a "real fight" against a top level MMA fighter is called parkour. i.e., run like hell and get on top of something where they can't follow you.
