Are there actually Kung Fu masters like Pei Mei from Kill Bill 2 around anymore?
Like dudes who live in the mountains and only live for Kung Fu or whatever it is they do?

MASTERS!!!

Thailand, Laos, China, Japan yes plenty of 'grandmasters' who just do martial arts in the jungle or mountains all day, especially all the monks.

The head of our flip martial arts style was a 70yr old dude who lived in the Cebu jungle and you could pay him to train 1 on 1. When you showed up he taught Arnis/Balintawak beside a waterfall with handmade bamboo sticks in the middle of nowhere.

Thailand full of these guys too, find some tiny village and a monk will be teaching Muay Thai. In China lot's of them are Qi Gong fruityloops kind of crouching dragon Kung Fu nonsense but they use swords and other weapons. Japan one of the "official" Ninja lineage masters has his own sushi restaurant where he slices the thinnest cuts with hand forged swords and knives. Not really a remote mountain

I dunno about the hermits, but I've seen some oldies that impressed me. There was the 70-year old monk that sparred with Walt Missingham in his documentary on Shaolin. The old feller kept slipping around behind Walt so he couldn't even stay facing him. Walt kept stopping and looking around for him, lol.

There used to be a Youtube of a 70-year old Wing Chun master in a street fight with a young guy who ripped his shirt off and jumped at him. The old guy sort of shoved him mid-jump and he landed on his ass. Then he offers a hand up and when the young guy takes it he boots the kid right in the face, HA! There's an old saying that "Old age and treachery will overcome youth and exuberance".

There's footage of Morehei Uyeshiba and Ip Man in their 80's but that's hard to judge unless you know what to look for, because Morehei is doing that co-operative randori where they throw themselves, and Ip is just working a wooden dummy and doing forms. So you'd probably have to be familiar with the styles before you could judge what you're seeing.

I don't know how this translates into fighting, but I'll bet there's no other guy his age who can push him around, lol. I'd be happy to be able to do this at any age.

Dark matches back then were truly dark matches, man. They didn't air anywhere and were just to appease the live crowd. The preliminary system for cards these days is handled differently and always get broadcasted to at least one platform.

There was a torrent like.. a year ago or so.
The first 30 ufcs, and yeah the first events were weird and comical as fuck. Just pure nonsense and madness.

I remember the first UFC match. A huge sumo guy against some Savate master, you could actually see teeth flying. Amusing and terrible at the same time.

I've seen the dark matches ONCE, they were briefly on Youtube, they were only released on a Japanese edition DVD, we saw Scott Morris tap out a taekwondo guy in what was the fastest submission for many years. We see a little bit of the fights in the leadup to the main feature, but that was all we had for years.

Meh, this one kinda blows. Considering the rest of that guy's letter contained proper grammar it seems pretty obvious that autocorrect screwed up his use of "here". This Grammar Slam gimmick works better when there are multiple errors in a short form piece, not like a letter with a single error.

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Anderson-Silva-Suspended-1-Year-Fined-36380K-by-NAC-for-Failed-Drug-Test-at-UFC-183-90679

What a fucking cavalcade of clowns his lawyers are. So does this permanently diffuse the legend and legitimacy of Anderson Silva? Does it make you wonder if he used PED's in the past and just didn't get popped due to the easily-exploitable drug testing policies? Also, what would you consider a bigger fall from grace: Anderson Silva losing twice to Chris "Whitebread" Weidman and then getting popped for roids in his comeback fight or Fedor Emelianenko getting his shit pushed in in three straight fights in Strikeforce? Both turns of events seemed to have turned out disastrous for both fighters' legacies.

where are the guidelines that say what diaz did constitutes a 5 year ban? if diaz cares enough (and had the money), he can go to a judge and it will get overturned, because the commission can't just pull numbers out of their ass like that, even in light of the issues with with the 3 different test results.

hell, the NFL players union gave Goddell the power to do just that and Brady's suspension STILL got overturned.

Also, if UFC never wants to contract diaz again, that's their prerogative, with or without a ban from NSAC. MMA is more than just UFC.

Again Toquinho the mental dwarf cranked the submission long enough to force the (shitty) ref to repeatedly intervene, and Jake Shields got some sweet eye poke justice for all the dirty eye pokes and face raking he did in UFC. Mazzagatti is so bad at this he didn't deduct any points even after the 3rd eye gouge.

Sonnen loses to Spider for the belt, then moves up to a weight that he hasn't fought at in 8 years and challenges Jones for the belt, all because Sonnen cut a promo on Jones - and yes, I'm using wrestling terminology on purpose.

Dave Meltzer has said Dana would rather have a guy like McGregor, who is media friendly, be the champ than Aldo...

Exactly, remember next time you see some guy just appear out of nowhere for the belt because of celebrity remember the UFC literally has over 500 fighters signed, that's a lot of people gritting it out in the trenches who are unknowns who worked their way to a championship (and finally the chance to make some real money) who will be pissed Johnny Media Shit-talker parachutes in and takes their chance at the belt.

mfw there are people who actually paid just to see that fight.

>>what is no striking defense?

No way would that have happened against Holm or Cyborg. No way.

Eventually though, as fun as it is to see these 30 second webm's the UFC is gonna have to do something about it because people will start wanting more. Like that episode of the Simpsons when Homer becomes a professional boxer.

I guess everyone better start getting hyped for Ronda-Tate 3.

For Ronda's fight vs Zingano at 184, it looks like according to the California athletic commission, Rousey was paid 130k, including her bonus (cat got 100k and would have gotten another 100k if she won...), but then UFC claims she got over $1 million based on the ppy buys.

>California commission tells me @RondaRousey guaranteed purse is 65,000 dollars and 65,000 more with a win.

Interesting that Cat's base pay was so much more, considering Rousey's seniority in both MMA and UFC. I guess Rousey just negotiated a deal to get less base pay, but a bigger PPV cut.
