I don't know where to post this, but I want to post it somewhere, I figure you guys could appreciate it.

This is the reason I believe in fight training. I don't want to be helpless if I ever have to fight against a person like this.

"This is the reason I believe in fight training. I don't want to be helpless if I ever have to fight against a person like this."

Chances are, if you're literate and live in a developed nation, you won't ever encounter this in your life. People have these irrational phobias in regards to their masculinity and livelihood about fighting or "defending themselves". That man is/was a professional kickboxer. The amount of training and experience he has put it easily surpasses the 10%> threshold. To reach his level, you would have to become a professional fight. But regardless, it's not really something you should ever feel threatened by. And in all honesty, I'd shoot a man dead before dealing with that bullshit. His brain and wits are probably all fucked from brain damage incurred while training, it's also probably what gives him such a ruthless and violent disposition. People like him are a dime-a-dozen, but if you live above a certain class-level you'll never have to deal with him.

P.S. I went one day at this camp where the head muay thai coach asked me who I wanted to spar with for the first time, during light training, and I suggested him (to get the most experience in such a short time). He punished me, like I was challenging him (although I was just curious of his skill and wanted to learn). My face was so bruised, I was punch-drunk for a week after. I decided at that point brain damage, versus intelligence, wasn't worth the discipline of the sport. It also makes people highly aggressive, impulsive, and just unpleasant to be around in most situations, though I've met some really nice ex-pro boxers.

That podcast was alright. Too bad I look up his name on Sherdog and he had one pro fight which he lost in under a minute.

Decent points about the gloves, no doubt it would be closest to "natural", and would = less KO's, more hand injuries unless they change technique.

And the basketball court-sized arena would be infinitely better. It's just real as fuck, removes the cage-fucking (which is not found anywhere else) and leaves only real, timed takedowns and lets you see everything.

those eye-pokes though....pride gloves maybe? (inherently curve your fingers).

no matter how big the ring is people will always exploit the edge. either with cage fucking or endless ring-out/stand up/ resets. Being able to seee the action live is big!

Go after his legs. He can't box you without his feet under him. Work on your wrestling so you can have at least a basic takedown defense. Otherwise youre going to smoke him with your standup game, at least I'd hope so with twelve years of TKD and Thai. As long as you stay on your feet you'll dominate.

Otherwise, take it one minute at a time and good luck. You got this!

The Ultimate Fighter: American Top Team vs. Blackzilians

Coming off a historic season that saw the crowning of the UFC’s first-ever Women’s Strawweight champion, the next installment of The Ultimate Fighter looks to raise the stakes once again. For the first time in the show’s 10-year history, a gym versus gym format will be introduced pitting fighters from the famed American Top Team against those from Blackzilians, all while living together under one roof in South Florida. It will be a monumental season, as $500,000, the first-ever The Ultimate Fighter Team Trophy and most importantly, ultimate bragging rights, are all up for grabs. The decisions and strategy determined by each team have never impacted the show as much as they will this season.

This season features eight rising welterweights from each team who will be selected by their respective gym owner to live in a South Florida house alongside their competition. The fighters will continue to train at their home gym with their own coaches and sparring partners. However, fights will no longer be held at a neutral site and now move to the teams’ respective gyms, always leaving one fighter to compete in enemy territory. Adding to the anticipation ahead of each bout, opponents won’t be known until the weigh-in. The culmination of the season will see two fighters meet at The Ultimate Fighter Finale in summer 2015, where the winning gym will be crowned.

The season premieres April 22 at 10pm EDT / 3am BST on Fox Sports 1 and in /mma/tube - http://taima.tv/r/mma. Here are the fighters and coaches for both teams:

>American Top Team:

*Head Coach: Dan Lambert
*Marcelo Alfaya (16-7-1 NC) - Porto Alegre, Brazil
*Steve Carl (21-4) - Belle Plain, Iowa
*Nathan Coy (14-5) - Vallejo, California
*Michael Graves (4-0) - Toledo, Ohio
*Hayder Hassan (6-1) - Fort Lauderdale, Florida
*Sabah Homasi (8-4) - New Brunswick, New Jersey
*Uros Jurisic (5-0) - Ljubljana, Slovenia
*Steve Montgomery (8-2) - Florence, South Carolina

>Blackzilians:

*Head Coach: Glenn Robinson
*Valdir Araujo (14-5) - Gama, Brazil
*Carrington Banks (3-0) - Peoria, Illinois
*Luiz Buscape (16-5) - Joao Pessoa, Brazil
*Jason Jackson (4-2) - Kingston, Jamaica
*Vicente Luque (7-4-1) - Westwood, New Jersey
*Andrews Nakahara (4-2-2) - Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil

There's a correlation. Top tier fighters are never going to be on the show anymore (unless it's a women's division season, for now) and the show's simply not going to be entertaining because of it. I caught up on the show and every episode Dana is bitching about how he wants these guys to "go for broke" in their fights, which makes absolutely no sense for the guys since they're all very low quality fighters to begin with AND they have to think about how they're going to potentially fight again in a few weeks. If they stopped their expansion and started holding back on seasons until they find some real talent, maybe TUF could be a cornerstone of UFC programming again. But that'll never happen as long as they're putting on shows every single week and have to fill in contractually obligated air time.

Now, I know what three or four people reading my thoughts are thinking. "Wasn't it Chris Leben pissing on a bed the real reason TUF got popular?" Of course. The problem is, that was pushing boundaries ten years ago. Reality TV has so thoroughly eroded the fabric of society that Felice Herrig can show her cooter on cable television and it's no big deal. And it appears that this season's big "shock" moment was a dude having a fucking seizure on camera. That didn't shock or interest me. It appalled me. The man was close to fucking dying and the camera man's first thought isn't, "HOLY FUCKING SHIT, I NEED TO GET THIS MAN SOME HELP", no, it's "I NEED TO GET THIS ON CAMERA". Fuck Reality TV.

Just got caught up on the whole season. Only thoughts that stick with me are

>Blackzillians are beasts and just fight
>the 3 vets from ATT losing was just sad
>Glenn Robinson is the modern day John du Pont?
>Hayder "I'M NEXT (LEMME BANG) BRO" Hassan

And also, isn't it crazy the level of difference between UFC-tier fighters and guys who are a step below? It's like watching them wade through slow motion, and you can pick nearly any top 15 WW to demolish most of these guys in minutes.

Also, anyone else prefer how they capture video/audio for TUF compared to the production of other UFC events? Feels more raw, true to life, and the audio capturing strikes is better.

>Also, anyone else prefer how they capture video/audio for TUF compared to the production of other UFC events? Feels more raw, true to life, and the audio capturing strikes is better.

They're probably using omnidirectional microphones in TUF, exactly to "capture the whole room and what it feels to be there", whereas in the big UFC events that would be impossible due to the insane levels of noise coming from the crowd. A really interesting observation for sure; I'll have to watch some episodes now.

Yeah, pretty much. Taking it completely out of house means noone can accuse UFC of playing favorites (those accusations would have to be lobbed at USADA, which doesn't protect people as far as I'm aware) and the UFC fines are actually worse than NSAC. 100% of your purse goes to USADA to fund the program, which gives USADA great incentive to pop people. Certainly we wouldn't be able to have a full-fledged FIFA-like conspiracy of fighters paying out more than the fines would be worth because then it would become unprofitable for them to fight. I just hope they're popping guys in the middle of the night like Da Meltz says so guys start getting scared straight.

What's with the Reebok uniform sponsorship deal? It sucks all round, even for UFC it sucks you'd think they would've made more money allowing a sponsorship free market and keeping their sponsorship taxes (which were extreme) http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2015/5/21/8633115/ufc-interview-ryan-jimmo-fighters-abusive-relationship-reebok

Anybody notice that UFC187 hardly anybody walked out with sponsorship (except for Cormier waving that Monster can around)? That's because for 6mos Dana White has been saying Reebok is coming in so all the fighters were dropped, lot's of them don't have a single sponsor anymore since the warning came out.

Are you a martial artist or a Martialist?
Because clearly being a Martialist is superior, as you can claim to be able to beat any traditional or Mixed martial artist by shooting them. Also you don't need to train, or have any ranks or qualifications, which I think suits this guy fine.
But it does require constant posing with a knife for any photo opportunity, and lifting weights with your eyebrow.

Celebratory thread for one of the most underrated UFC fighters, potentially of all time?

It's clear UFC brass love the guy, but he's never been huge with the casual fans, he's always been an MMA favourite, but maybe it's time people really appreciate the dude. Yes, he's been claimed to be a boring point fighter who wins fights on decisions, but Frankie always gives it his all and is NEVER in a dull fight, tonight included. Yes, they're tactical affairs, but they're never uninteresting wrestlefests even when they're one sided, and if they are, its only because he's the stronger side of the coin, which is rare considering his level of competition.

Edgar apparently just broke the UFC octagon time count, which for a lot of people means "hurrdurr point fighter" but on the other side of the coin, it means he's the most experienced fighter in UFC when it comes to time. It shows that because he used to often get cracked in a fight but now it's so rare that he's actually hurt or caught clean and rocked, and he's not hard to hit, especially in the early rounds when he comes forward and hasn't got his timing down.

He also has two trilogies under his belt, one he emphatically won with a knockout nobody thought was possible and seem to have forgotten. He beat BJ Penn three times (some people say BJ won the first fight, I think a lot of that is hinged on BJ's prestige, I had Frankie winning rounds 3-5 and BJ was never the same after that third round for whatever reason). He also gave Aldo and Bendo stiff competition, both undisputed Lightweight and Featherweight champions respectively during their run. A lot of people thought he beat Bendo at least once.

I'm not trying to sit here and portray Frankie Edgar as the best fighter of all time, just he's at a level now where it's unfair to shit on him and act like he's not earned his stripes. And he just made Faber look fucking average. Faber who never loses a title fight and even then it's at least competitive if not close or controversial. He'll go down as one of UFC's most underrated fighters, I suppose because he's not as marketable as a GSP or a Conor McGregor, but he's always value for money. Here's to Frankie, my favourite UFC fighter, potentially of all time.

A technical masterpiece for the last 3 rounds, I really enjoyed it either way both as an exhibition of skill and because I love Edgar.

Of course it's not the gutsy thriller that his Maynard/Henderson fights were but it was really up to Faber to make it that way. Edgar was ALWAYS going to dominate the technical battle and Faber should have known going in that he was going to have to make the fight a little ugly, open it up a little, to win. It's just a little unfortunate for a guy who is so good at scrambling, who is so impossible to hold down to be so conservative when he's getting beaten striking but I guess you don't train to be the second best guy in the cage.

There are numerous in the sport, but I just discovered that Akihiro Gono, one of those jouryneyman, middle-tier Japanese fighters with a 34-19 record at one point defeated Hector Lombard and Gegard Mousasi (by armbar) in succession, being one of the few breaks in their typical winning ways.

Man I was so hyped for that fight, I was expecting some kind of huge war where they both run at each other for 3 rounds, but I guess with guys so aggressive an early knockout shouldn't have been a surprise.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I'm pretty sure in the Matt Hughes vs Carlos Newton fight Hughes lifts up Newton while he's being held in a triangle and holds him against the fence, then either slams him and passes out or passes out and slams him and the slam knocks out Carlos Newton, but the referee doesn't notice Hughes is out and announces him the winner when he comes to in about 5 seconds. Pretty hilarious waking up from a triangle choke and being told you're the new Welterweight champion.

I'm a boxing fan but haven't really taken the time to get into watching MMA. I've watched a few matches on YouTube, and a couple of Invicta PPVs, but that's it.

A few friends were interested in watching the big Pacman/Mayweather fight, though they were disappointed by how one-sided it ended up being, as was I. I asked them if they wanted to get into watching boxing with me, because I thought it would be fun to have our own favorites, argue about who's the best, etc., and both expressed that they'd rather start watching MMA regularly than boxing.

That's fine, but I like to delve into a thing and really understand it, know the big names of the past, who's on top now, who the up-and-comers are, what has changed over the past few years, what's changing in the near future, etc., and I have no idea whatsoever where to start with trying to understand MMA. How is it scored? Are there any serious competitors to UFC? What matches do I need to see?

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Pic only somewhat related, but I hope she gets her title back.

Not an idiot, biased. Of course an Aussie ref isn't gonna end the fight for the hometown boy. Hell, remember when Hunt was getting pissed on on the ground in I think it was the fifth? People start chanting "stand them up" and the ref threatens to do just that while Hunt can't do ANYTHING and it's obvious that all that would happen would be a single leg followed by more GNP until the end of time.

Hello, and welcome!
I'm thrilled about your interest in our niche sport. I think having read what others have posted you should have some degree of familiarity with the sport.

My brother trained MMA for several years, and he got me into it when we were living together at university. There are a lot of bad stereotypes about the fans of the sport, and they are few and far between. I'd usually only go to smaller venues to watch my brother fight, and when I did I'd feel kind of out of place, due to how different I was from the other fans. But I digress....

You've picked a good time to get interested, as one of the best cards is coming the weekend after next. You could go to a bar to see it, pay for it, or use... let us say "other" methods of watching it. Anyways, it's a fantastic card from top to bottom!

The main event is a championship fight between two contenders: Anthony Johnson and Daniel Cormier (Since the champion recently got stripped of his belt). Since you're a boxing fan I'd suggest you watch some of Johnson's striking, it's absolutely vicious. Cormier is a wrestler and tough grinder, but he's not boring. The fight is really a toss-up for me.

The co-main is the Middleweight championship fight between champion Chris Weidman and aging legend Vitor Belfort. Chris shocked the world when he defeated Silva twice, and then solidified his status by defeating Machida. Belfort has been destroying fighters lately, however due to TRT controversy the fight was postponed for like a year. I'm pretty sure Weidman will retain the belt here, but crazier things have happened, (See UFC 173).

Anyways I recognize that, that is a a UFC event and there are cards before then. I know I'll be watching Bellator this Friday, but the card isn't as spectacular; nor is the UFC Fight Night the next day. But since watching the sport and finishing up university is all I do these days, it's my one own escape.

As far as competitors for the UFC goes. I think the recent Reebok deal will hurt them, Bellator has some quality fighters (but Bellator also likes to put on "freak fights" which I watch, but most fans don't like). WSOF and ONE FC also have up-and-comers. But the UFC does definitely possess almost all of the elite fighters.

For me, as an MMA fan, a huge part of the entertainment is the suspense. Anything could happen, at any moment. I generally do not watch old fights, especially if I know the outcome. But if you just like watching fighting I'd suggest Pride fights with Hunt, Fedor, Big Nog, and other legends. More recent examples could be Jones vs. Gustaffson or Hunt vs Bigfoot.

As far as "up-and-comers" in the UFC I'd say Rockhold could definitely be champion, Hell Jacare could too in that division. A lot of fans like Conor McGregor, but I just find him annoying, granted his idiosyncratic striking is entertaining. Another future contender for me is Stipe Miocic, or Donald Cerrone.

http://www.sportingnews.com/sport/story/2015-05-05/mayweather-vs-pacquiao-maypac-rematch-possible-stephen-a-smith-text

>ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith has close ties with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

>Before the fight of the century between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, the undefeated boxer gave an exclusive interview with Smith in which the two toured his house and chatted. That close bond means Smith can get rare access to Mayweather, including an interesting text message.

Interesting thing here. Manny's claims that he had a shoulder injury were kind of controversial, but apparently he does have to have surgery, which adds quite a bit of legitimacy. In addition, a year is plenty of time to recuperate.

Meanwhile, Mayweather says he's having fight 49 in September. After that, it'd probably be around May before he'd want to have another fight, which means that, if it's actually roughly a year before a rematch between the two, Mayweather would be looking to solidify his victory over Pacquiao by taking him on at full health at the same time as passing Marciano's 49-0 record.

Though I think Mayweather will still have an advantage, a fight with Pacquiao where the latter is at full health, and with the understanding of what he's up against that this fight hopefully gave him, should be significantly more interesting than this one turned out to be.

There will of course be a rematch, too much money not to do it and all Floyd loves is money. Dana White correct when he said the lawsuits would start immediately after the fight with both sides suing each other for more money the lawsuits probably won't end until the rematch(s).

Floyd is likely walking away with $250 million if Yahoo sports is correct and the buys were 5 million.
