That's not his early work, just his directorial work except for Noah (shit) and The Wrestler (pretty good).

He hasn't done much in recent years except for some producing gigs.

Darren Aronofsky is one of the greatest directors of our generation. Say what you will about Noah or The Fountain — Requiem for a Dream, Pi, Black Swan, The Wrestler. Those are 4 top-notch, brilliant films. Most directors struggle to make fire once, yet alone 4 times. And these ain't hollow Hollywood films either, they explore the dark depths of humanity, the characters repeatedly destroying themselves in an effort to achieve some goal or ideal.

That being said, I was disappointed to see him working with Jennifer Lawrence in his newest film. I can't stand that bitch... she better actually, y'know, act.

Yo, so mother! was fucking dope. Amazing performances, actually enjoyed Jennifer Lawrence a lot and regret shit-talking her before. She's still an awful person, but I can enjoy her work.

It's not Aronofsky's best... That would still be Black Swan, followed by Pi. But this is a serious contender with Requiem for a Dream, imo.

Starts off kind of slow, but I was intrigued knowing it was going to get really crazy by the end, and the uneasiness of it all was just masterfully done. And boy, does it get crazy near the end. Just pure fucking chaos, and some of the shit that happened has people pissed. I was laughing because of how twisted and absurd it was. A crowd surfing naked baby pissing everywhere... Jesus, Darren you madman.

Four episodes in and I'm enjoying it so far. It reminds me sort of like Parks and Rec, but without the talking to the camera thing, but the comedy seems to be around the same kind of topics.

There's no characters I found not funny, although maybe that will happen later on. My girlfriend loves it and she used to work as a retail manager for years, so I guess it's pretty relatable if you've worked there.

Watched the latest episode. It's getting pretty interesting about what is real and fake when it comes to those killer clowns, Ally's fear of clowns and agoraphobia is really getting to her and even though I could see her killing Pedro coming a mile away, it didn't make it any less crazy. I really don't know what to make of Winter though, is she trying to subconsciously brainwash Cooper for Kai's hints of gaining a cult of personality and eventually a cult?

even the very first episode had the jerry beth marraige drama stuff and it was never good. they want it to be a comedy with "srs emoshunz" like futurama but they aren't nearly as good at the drama part, even futurama wasn't perfect at it. there were bits that were clearly hammy, drama for the sake of drama, or just unrealistic. that said I thought summer was boring and annoying until she started getting better storylines like the one with her and satan. maybe season 4 will make me like jerry and beth? I still think the show should trim the fat and just be rick morty and sometimes summer fucking around across the universe though.

>>388461
roiland's rick and morty alone would just be a more fucked up version of King Star King but with some science. not that I wouldn't enjoy that, but the show does benefit from roiland and harmon balancing each other.

>>388468
>blah blah blah buzzwords
>fizzles out after the third season
I'm honestly a bit worried that season 4 is gonna be bland and repetitive as hell, or double down on everything that isn't rick and morty having absurd adventures, but season 3 has had the same rate of good to boring episodes as the first two seasons, so I figure we could get at least one or two more equivalent seasons.

Movie of the Day:
>Hausu (1977)
A Japanese horror comedy film directed and produced by Nobuhiko Obayashi. It stars mostly amateur actors. The film follows a schoolgirl traveling with her six classmates to her ailing aunt's country home, where they come face to face with supernatural events as the girls are, one by one, devoured by the home.

RIP Harry Dean Stanton.

Awesome movie and soundtrack, btw. It nailed that anti-consumerism aesthetic at a time when these weren't themes in popular movies (save for they live). It had a message, but it didn't take itself too seriously. it was just a little bit better than it needed to be, and that's why it's thought of as being so good.

A Spanish-Mexican dark fantasy film written and directed by Guillermo del Toro. The story takes place in Spain in 1944, five years after the Spanish Civil War, during the early Francoist period. >Why would he make a star trek fan production as a vanity project?

Because he always wanted to? why do you think star trek references pop up in all his shows? why do you think patrick stewart plays such a huge role in the macfarlane universe? i mean there was a family guy episode where stewie beamed in all the actors from next generation and had to cheafuer them around town.

Macfarlane is a HUGE star trek fan, he made his own star wars and now hes making his own star trek, if it fails, so be it, its something that he wanted to do, its not so much his vanity project, its his passion project.

But who else is hyped for Marvels Punisher on Netflix?

Do you think they'll keep the violence?

Do you think they will use parts of the Punisher-VG-OST?

That's fair. I'll take it back.

Personally, I find the Punisher violence in Daredevil to be a notch above the norm for that show. He sort of ratcheted things up over the base layer of broken bones and concussed skulls that Daredevil traded in. Which, is fitting. From my, limited, knowledge of the character, explosive, if righteous, violence is like 90% of his personality. I think they played the contrast in a way didn't require the more gratuitous violence from the MAX series. Basically, they don't want to go "too far for a superhero show," and risk alienating viewers. The MAX imprint was explicitly, ummm...explicit. It existed to bring in an audience. Ironically, going to that level could push the Punisher from a "PG-13" series into an "R" in the minds of people. While Daredevil is pretty violent, it is also oddly clean. Like, they drop a "shit," on a very rare occasion, but overall, swearing is mild and nobody is getting naked. They get a show with too much violence, and eventually even our jaded society will view it as more of an "R" show or worse. Producers have to walk a line and all. You can't make something too offensive...

I imagine "mother! - The Series," won't be on Netflix soon for that very reason....

That's pretty much all you got. There was one series that aired in 1999. Features a bunch of z-listers and was pretty shit. No other Avengers show period existed til Earths Mightiest Heroes, which was good enough but kinda cheap modern budget animation and Tony Stark's voice was just....not right at all. Just what? Sounds more like a college freshman Peter Parker than fully grown billionaire industrialist Tony Stark.

So there were several new episodes of Adventure Time last night and because CN doesn't give a fuck to even advertise it (again) I missed 2 or 3 of them.
