I'm really fucking bored, for the love of god, recommend something to me, preferably a series or a chinese cartoon.

I want something really engaging and exciting that makes me want to shove popcorn on my face and jut keep watching it until it ends. I like star trek but I'm not in the mood right now.

I'm into shonen chinese cartoons, crime/drama series maybe and not much more. I've already watched all of One Piece, HunterxHunter, Hajime no Ippo, Dragon Ball, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, so don't recommend me those.

PLEASE RECOMMEND ME THINGS I NEED TO WATCH THINGS I'M GONNA DIIIIIE

Just to piss off OP and offer a great recommendation, Gomorra. Just finished binge watching it through season 3 last week and honestly it's possibly the best show I've seen in a long long time if not ever.

Show is like if you took the absolute best parts from The Wire and The Sopranos and combined them but only after ejecting all the crap filler.

Just started a miniseries called 'Last Panthers' last night and so far it's pretty good.

Recommendation threads fail more often than not on this board. If someone that isn't fucked up starts the thread it tends to go well. On the inverse though, OP will rant and rant and forget they even made the post when they come back down to reality in a few days.

Everyone should definitely watch Utopia though. That show was fucking great. Great use of musical timing (Letterkenny has picked up the slack in this field recently). Fuck any possible HBO remakes.

I remembered enjoying this film years ago but couldnt remember it that well so i just watched it again. It's really not that great. Has some pretty good scenes and bateman is acted well and is interesting but the plot just goes in the wrong direction and i think it tries to be so much more clever than it really is.

So, my friend and I are having a discussion and we cannot remember whether or not Babe (1995) passes the Bechdel test. We each own copies but mine is at work and my homie's is in his storage unit so we can't watch it to find out. Can anyone here remember if it does? I wouldn't say that the Bechdel Test makes a very accurate litmus test as to whether or not a movie is "good" or progressive, the subject just got brought up because Babe's gender is actually never established

Side note: Babe is objectively one of the greatest movies ever created. Fantastic writing, action, direction, cinematography, the iconic song "If I Had Words" is both appealing and memorable, and the animals' performances are top notch. I fucking dare you to talk shit about Babe around me. Discuss

That seems a bit arbitrary. When it comes to films I'm not a fan of sub plots especially inane or romantic ones. I just like the story to keep progressing, and when you can't do that anymore it's time to wrap it up.

If there is no significant female involved in the plot I don't see the purpose of adding female subplots just so you can say you're 'feminist compliant'. All films are at their core are works of art and every scene or subplot you add/subtract to the film changes how that work of art is perceived.

For some reason I had forgotten about Fabian Bielinsky pretty much since the guy passed. I'm rectifying this injustice tonight by watching Nine Queens and Aura.

On the subject though, who are some of the other great (non-english) directors in the crime/gangster genre? Only other two that come to mind to me right now are Jean Melville and Kinji Fukasaku.

Really high quality episode and great story development especially now that Gus knows Nacho switched the pills. That scene where he killed Arturo in brutal fashion was classic Gus sending a message. And I really liked the scenes with Jimmy’s interviewing for the job, which of course is just a cover for trying to pull a new con. Chuck’s death already feeding into Jimmy’s eventual transformation and possible downfall with his relationship with Kim. Speaking of Kim, I was not ready for her blowing up on Howard but she put him in his place and it was well deserved given how he’s treated her due to her association with Jimmy. Then again, Howard has basically been Chuck’s messenger. And I think that Mike and his security consultant job are going to play an integral role of him eventually becoming Gus’ right hand man and cleaner.

I think something will break jimmy, perhaps its what is in chucks letter maybe its Kim falling out with him maybe when he gets mikes favour he has to start returning them and ends up needing a front i dunno!! but im excited!!

I've learned that there's many classics which are "illegal" and i've been struggling with my own worries over "illegal" filmmaking as I myself want to make films, and have decided to say "fuck it" and use unlicensed music and locations. I don't give a fuck anymore. I'm not a fucking slave. I don't care if I will never be able to legally release them, I don't fucking care. I'm going to make my god damn movies and if shitbags have a fucking problem with that they're going to have to fucking kill me. I'm done. I'm fucking done. Following rules, obeying laws, sucking toes, I'm done. Fuck them. Fuck them to hell. I will make films, however the fuck I god damn want to make them, with whatever music is in my god damn head that some asshole studio put out into the world to become a part of peoples minds. Fuck them. I'll do with my ideas whatever the fuck I want. Next they'll say "We copywrote the sky, so now if you have any imaginings that involve the sky we will be charging you for them" fuck that and fuck them. I'm done. DONE. I will be making my films starting this year. They will be made available for free when completed. Anyone who is so pathetic that they attempt to stop me will, as I've said, have to kill me to do it. Viva le Film Revolution. I'm done following their fucking rules.

Here's a secret, don't want people to use your work? DON'T MAKE IT PUBLIC. It's MY WORK TO USE the SECOND you make me fucking listen to it, you asshole. I'm not going to go out on the street corner with my bass and jam and then scream at people for humming my tune. I would be flattered. Fucking monsters. I hope toad bodied toad brain suits all have their cocks and balls surgically removed with a broken bottle.

I'm watching pic related at the moment. Why the fuck did I download this knowing full well I'm terrified of ghosts? First of the "stories" gave me serious goosebumps, here's hoping the rest do and make this a worth successor to the V/H/S style format of three short films to a movie with a connected overarching plot thingamajigger.

Anyway, what horror you guys watch lately? I tried The Quiet Place but it was so boring I couldn't even get to the first scary part. The fact that it has subtitles is also offputting.

You hit the nail on the head, nobody makes good horror right now.

I recently watched A quiet place and that was pretty decent, if you torrent it make sure to download the .srt subtitle file cause i didn't realise for like 20 mins baked out of my mind.

Also just watched the void which wasn't as good as but had more physical horror and some neat practical effect work, goes a bit stupid at the end, reccomend if you're not sober and you enjoy the first 30 mins.

It's a cool idea and the soundtrack/setting are stylized well, the movie just has no payoff. The pool scene at the end is anticlimatic and the metaphor of the movie likening the paranormal shit to STIs is never expanded upon.

It's a trend I've noticed in modern horrors, like The Witch or It Comes at Night. They have a creepy premise and setting, but the tension doesn't build to anything, just sort of moves in shallow waves until the film ends with no real resolution. I think it's lazy writing to end with an ambiguous or unanswered question(essentially what you ask yourself watching the trailer: what's the monster and motives?) if the film doesn't raise a greater question by the end of the film.

Out of those 3, The Witch is definitely the best. The scene at the end gave us some resolution and mystery, it just didn't excite me that much.

Don't Breath was decent. There's a fucked up twist in it that kinda raises the stakes halfway through the movie and the ending is bittersweet but satisfying.

Green Room is still my favorite horror/thriller from the past few years.
