>THE BOYS is an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods, abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It's the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” and their formiddable Vought backing.

I typically hate cap shut, but this is really good. Check it if get the chance.

It was so ridiculous I was thinking they were going to show that Vaught wanted her to be broken out as some kind of 5D-chess move. I really wanted that to be the reason it was so fucking easy instead of it just being pure convenience.

>there's a blatant agenda being sold. First season spread it pretty thin but I couldn't even continue season 2 with all the blatant out of place propaganda thrown in.
The message he is talking about is opposed to all the things that benefit amazon.
If you're gonna talk about propaganda in film, go after all the capeshit that literally works with the DoD.

The issue here is hollywood writers are still hollywood writers and fall back on State-Department-Approved narratives about America's Enemies in a work that's supposed to criticize doing exactly that.

It is weird too that the writers conceptualize the CIA as sitting mostly outside those influences, instead of taking orders from them. And government reps as being resistive of it, or at least trying to... which like, what is the government ideology in this universe that it's not totally on board for at least one of these approaches?

Maybe that bit isn't just lazy though, but more reflective of... of a sort of Sorkin worldview... that views systems as fundamentally non-ideological and good, and sees those systems as under attack from ideologies (and ideologies are fundamentally bad). I guess that would explain the baddies too. It's just weird to have a show where Vought is also a "bad guy".

I'm trying not to pull this fully into pol territory but it's a political show and I'm trying to sort out what I even just watched.

Did this show not take government advisement and money? I wouldn't be surprised either way.

I think the sequel trilogy was so fucking bad but in a weird way that wasnt slapping you over the head with how bad they were. Like Jar Jar steps in the poo poo and you know you are watching a stupid fucking movie.

The new trilogy is almost worse because its bad but its bad in a weird manipulative way. It makes you think it's good but it isnt. They really just shit the end and made 3 bland boring useless movies.

Just watch Mandolorian.

Does it though? It was a remake, a tone deaf slog that raised tons of questions without answering anything, and whatever the fuck the third movie was, don't even know where to begin with that one.

With so many streaming services nowadays it makes me wonder how come there aren't any services where you pay one monthly bill that covers all of the services that you choose to pay for. Kind of like an old cable subscription except for media streaming since you'll likely end up paying the same price you would normally for cable after trying to get every single streaming service on the internet. How come this isn't a thing yet?

Wouldn't be the first since Runaways aired on there. This was the last show developed by Marvel Television before they got folded into Marvel Studios, which oversaw the completion of Helstrom's production. It was originally supposed to be part of the Adventure into Fear universe with Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna reprising his role as Robbie Reyes from Agents of SHIELD) though the didn't move forward with the latter show. This is basically a contractual obligation like The New Mutants was.

This Barbarians show is sick. Euro Netflix kills it every time. Better costumes than anything ever.

Skip the dub as usual. Do not fuck with English-language Netflix dubs. I guarantee it's a huge part of why this show doesn't have a STELLAR IMDB rating.

Yeah I never fuck with English language dubs. When I watched Money Heist, I knew I wasn't going to get the same type of dialogue that I would with English dubs though that has a high IMDB rating but probably because of how popular the show is rather than the quality of dubs.

I'll go first.

It's a show about a semi-successful show producer/writer for the BBC who is given the ultimatum of, "come up with something clever or GTFO!". After bullshitting through a protracted period and finally being confronted with the possibility of being sacked, and after a night of angsty drunkenness shared with a paparazzi pal, the idea for a show is hatched that is basically trying to get famous people into compromising situations that could be interpreted as possibly romantic. This show-inside-the-show is called "Hitched or Ditched" and is an ambush blind date show for famous people. It is hosted by a venerated but dotardly retired actor (possibly Patric Stewart?) who has absolutely no idea what the show is about. Our protagonist, the producer, suckers two famous folks into meeting each other at a romantic venue for a supposed script reading. It quickly becomes clear to the famous folks that something fishy is afoot and they both leave in a huff. Once edited and aired, the resulting pilot episode of the show results in a massive boost for the careers of the famous folks (throw anyone you want in here, maybe Russell Howard and Zooey Deschanel, I dunno) after which other famous and not-so-famous people begin clamoring to be on the show, which poor Patric Stewart still doesn't have a full grasp of. This goes on for two or possibly three series until at last Patrick finally figures it out and then, in a fit of rage, has a heart attack on set, spelling the end of the show.

Your turn!

Well there was Kung Fu and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues that starred David Carradine that aired on ABC and PTEN in the 70s and 90s, which is now being rebooted and airing on The CW next year.

But you could check out Warrior, which just started its second season and its showrunner Jonathan Tropper was the co-creator of Banshee. It's based on a concept Bruce Lee had created before he passed away. Ironically Lee was supposed to star on Kung Fu but he got passed over for the role due to his accent and size.

Lee was 5'7, same height as Tom Cruise. That wasnt because of that you tool. It because they specifically told him that a Chinese man cannot be a hero/leading man of a film and it wasnt marketable. Why do you think he left to make movies in HK.

I would argue some racism was played, but Lee also said, that it would be weird to market a white actor in HK films, and it would probably not sell as well. So he understood both side of the coin.

So the boards are back up again after being down for almost a week. What the fuck have you been watching bruh??

>True Detective s3
Way better than season 2 but not as good as season 1. That's not to say this season hasn't been great, it's just been more of a slow burn. The finale airs this Sunday and I'm really looking forward to it.

>Doom Patrol
Only one episode out so far but it's pretty promising for a pilot. Having the antagonist being the narrator is fun and the show is meta without being Deadpool-on-head levels of Random XD. Some people are saying that it's already better than Titans after a single episode... I don't know about all that, but it definitely gives me hope for Swamp Thing coming out later this year.

>Umbrella Academy
Gave it a shot and I got bored 3 episodes in. I'm all for more comic shows that aren't from the Big 2, but not if they're like this. Not trying to hate on the show, maybe it just isn't for me, but it feels like that Wes Anderson X-Men parody already did it better. (Source btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UngE0qn3VRY )

I'm curious, are there any other shows which give off a similar vibe to these shows that I should add to the watch list?
