Hi there. I was recently watching the Eric Andre interview with Larry Queen, I mean the reverse interview with Larry King. I became interested and investigat3d only to discover that it takes the worst talkshow to make me associate with y'all. SO, THIS THREAD IS AN OPEN APPRECIATION OF TALK SHOWS. As inspired by Eric Andre, I consider the theme to be awkward and whether anybody (and anyone?) relates.

That and a bonus of grammar correction by those who think I need more vowels or punctuation. Also, I'm high and need to know about gateways into other worlds through television and examples. So that too.

Pic is Eric Andre for inspiring this thread.

I'd agree it's not as funny as either of those, but it is still pretty good. I was expecting something a bit better considering it's like, 2 of my favourite comedy guys and a brilliant actor, but it's still totally worth watching.
Hoping to hear about a season 2, is it likely that if it was happening it would have been announced by now?

I felt the same way after watching the first two episodes, but the last four each one got better then the last and after the final 6th episode i was really enjoying it, if they don't make a season 2 that will kind of suck just as a stand alone series, but i do see potential for a decent comedy sitcom if they keep going.

>After the defeat of the so-called Islamic State in Syria, Raqqa was born again. Though this time women are leading the change and are building a new future for the city. The same city that was known all over the world for being the “capital” of ISIS where violence and atrocities were committed on a daily basis.
Raqqa is way more than this. It has been for centuries a very important crossoroad in Syria, and now is looking for a comeback.

>Blooming in the desert is a short-doc which talks about this change by following three women who never before thought they could be involved in society and in the political organizing. In fact, before ISIS the Ba’ath regime has secluded women from entering properly public life. Now Maryam leads the “Women’s administration office, Awaft works in the municipality, while Hind is a singer and a musician and is taking part in a band.

I'll go first.

It's a show about a semi-successful show producer/writer for the BBC who is given the ultimatum of, "come up with something clever or GTFO!". After bullshitting through a protracted period and finally being confronted with the possibility of being sacked, and after a night of angsty drunkenness shared with a paparazzi pal, the idea for a show is hatched that is basically trying to get famous people into compromising situations that could be interpreted as possibly romantic. This show-inside-the-show is called "Hitched or Ditched" and is an ambush blind date show for famous people. It is hosted by a venerated but dotardly retired actor (possibly Patric Stewart?) who has absolutely no idea what the show is about. Our protagonist, the producer, suckers two famous folks into meeting each other at a romantic venue for a supposed script reading. It quickly becomes clear to the famous folks that something fishy is afoot and they both leave in a huff. Once edited and aired, the resulting pilot episode of the show results in a massive boost for the careers of the famous folks (throw anyone you want in here, maybe Russell Howard and Zooey Deschanel, I dunno) after which other famous and not-so-famous people begin clamoring to be on the show, which poor Patric Stewart still doesn't have a full grasp of. This goes on for two or possibly three series until at last Patrick finally figures it out and then, in a fit of rage, has a heart attack on set, spelling the end of the show.

Your turn!

It starts off with some younger guy in the Hollywood hills, he jerks off to his neighbor across the way. She ends up being desirable in some way but it sours in the next few scenes and devolves into some satanic shit iirc. I can’t remember the title and it’s killing the shit out of me

Have you ever noticed that Cartman's only defining trait is being fat, until he's pranked into Cartman off-screen by a confused homosexual from a foreign country, playing on a sports team, so the jock can straighten out and the show can make sense for him or her?

The show is abbettedly Jewish, with Cartman as an anti-Semite, and every reference Cartman makes as a potential prank a homosexual athlete from overseas might make is Hitler falling in love with a Jewish girl.

Does Matt Stone know what 'Jew' means to Gentile anti-Semites, that being a cheat on a deal to make money?

Does Matt Stone get stoned?

So I'm currently watching Star Trek The Next Generation, and it's made me want to dive into shows from a similar time frame. So far my list is:

Star Trek DS9 and Voyager
Stargate
Farscape
Battlestar Galactica

I'm curious, are there any other shows which give off a similar vibe to these shows that I should add to the watch list?

Yeah it's almost a side job for most of the regular Star Trek cast.

Also the finales are pretty neat. Most of them are clip shows but they frame it as part of ongoing story which isn't apparent from the episodes themselves.

I just watched Tales from the Loop on amazon. I thought it was going to be more like Twilight Zone/Outer Limits, but it wasn't entirely.

Most episodes that are in that Twilight Zone formula, but really it spends its time doing more world building and character moments. There's even a couple episodes where almost no weird stuff happens, to put you off balance. It's a bit slower for those reasons, but that's not really bad in my opinion.

I really felt like the show could benefit from dreamier/Lynchian direction because it kind of wants to operate on dream logic, especially in the last episode. I feel like it'd feel better if they'd leaned into that.

So the boards are back up again after being down for almost a week. What the fuck have you been watching bruh??

>True Detective s3
Way better than season 2 but not as good as season 1. That's not to say this season hasn't been great, it's just been more of a slow burn. The finale airs this Sunday and I'm really looking forward to it.

>Doom Patrol
Only one episode out so far but it's pretty promising for a pilot. Having the antagonist being the narrator is fun and the show is meta without being Deadpool-on-head levels of Random XD. Some people are saying that it's already better than Titans after a single episode... I don't know about all that, but it definitely gives me hope for Swamp Thing coming out later this year.

>Umbrella Academy
Gave it a shot and I got bored 3 episodes in. I'm all for more comic shows that aren't from the Big 2, but not if they're like this. Not trying to hate on the show, maybe it just isn't for me, but it feels like that Wes Anderson X-Men parody already did it better. (Source btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UngE0qn3VRY )
