Reinterpretation of Twin Peaks

File: 1589673190723.jpg -(49507B / 48.35KB, 500x374) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size. Reinterpretation of Twin Peaks
If you're not familiar with the 90's TV show Twin Peaks, it is set in the Pacific Northwest US and centers on the murder of a girl named Laura Palmer, resident of the show's namesake town, and the supernatural nature of a string of similar crimes. The show presents the supernatural element as part of the local indigenous pantheon, consisting of two opposing "lodges", a white (good) and a black (evil). A malignant spirit named Bob, from the Black Lodge (there's the name of my future black metal band) has been on a murder/rape spree for perhaps centuries, certainly decades and is confronted in pitiful human capacity by the sleekly nerdy FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, who meets a rather unfortunate fate. Eventually the murder is solved, as such, and the story is left in a literal limbo for 25 years until the show's creator (David Lynch) revisits his creation to bestow resolution that isn't actually a resolution because David Lynch.

Soon to the reinterpretation. We are told that Bob is a malignant spirit, capable of inhabiting human hosts, although later we find out that he is able to exist purely as himself also. I find myself wondering if Bob, along with various other denizens of the Black Lodge could be looked at as dginn. Bob makes an unknown offer to young Leland Palmer (Laura's dad) who is then "possessed" by Bob for the purposes of the aforementioned rape and murder. In Arabic folklore, the dginn often make a tempting offer only to then turn the tables and spring an unpleasant surprise on the one foolish enough to be taken in (Disney really cleaned up the image of the dginn for young audiences). Again to folklore, the dginn have their own language, unknown to human tongues, which can be seen in the strange backward-speak of the Black Lodge inhabitants. Also in folklore, the passage into the realm of the dginn is said to be like an unseen fabric that is pulled aside by those who are able, allowing 5he dginn (and the few initiated humans) to step between worlds as though passing between two curtains, which are featured prominently in the show (the passage into the Black Lodge is between two immense pleated red curtains). Of course folklore also attributes spectacular abilities to the dginn such as that of granting wishes, although it is also frequently hinted at that this is mostly lies by the dginn to trip up humans. Bob is not only able to possess human hosts, he is also able to travel via electricity, to appear as himself (a disembodied spirit) to potential victims, to trap the souls of victims in inanimate objects and possibly time travel.

Anyway, I like to think that Bob is a dginn and that the dginn of the Middle East are the same creatures that stalk the darkness of David Lynch's Pacific Northwest.

Space Force sucks. I'm going to talk about Reno 911 instead.
I like this show in short bursts but I find it hard to watch at times as the cast is so small it's distracting knowing that the perps are also the police cast. It would be more immersive if half the people they interacted with weren't also clearly played by the same troupe.

I (finally) saw Turbo Kid.

Funny how I’m a bigger expert of recent 80s homages than I am of actual 80s movies. Whether they’re minor homages like Super 8, The World’s End, and Ready Player One, or All-Out/borderline violent Grindhouse exploitation throwbacks like Drive, Hobo with a shotgun, Dredd, Kung Fury, Commando Ninja, Mandy, or even to some degree, Annihilation, I’m open to them so long as they’re thoroughly well done. The reason I prefer recent 80s homages over older ones like Napoleon Dynamite, Donnie Darko, and a rare one, Totally Awesome, is because there wasn’t a single 80s movie that was younger than 20-21 by the time the 10s began and people really understood the charm of even the most amateur 80s films enough to be inspired by them. Turbo Kid has been on my radar since the trailer came out, especially since the director of the aforementioned Hobo, Jason Eisener, was attached to produce. And let me tell ya: It’s definitely the cocoon to Mandy’s butterfly if Hobo was the caterpillar, in the sense that it still resembles a more bloated version of the latter despite the fact it’s flourishing to mature into something beautiful and truly fleshed out.
All you need to know is this: There’s these 2 characters, The Kid and a girl named Apple, who are trying to take down a tyrant named Zeus in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with the help of this Aussie cowboy named Frederic. While some nods to the decade are in our face like the rubik’s cube, the music, and costume design, others like the twist denouement and emotional motifs make it feel genuinely 80s if they were filmed with a camera from the future. As I previously mentioned: it’s not for the squeamish. But I see the more over-the-top scenes as aggressive filler for the more inspired moments that really bring these characters to life. It’s as gut-wrenching as it is well made, and this movie has guts in every sense of the word.

I am not sure about referring to Super 8 and RP1 as minor homages. I mean, the former is basically "what if Amblin from the 80s produced a film in 2011" and yay-yay was obviously trying HARD to emulate 80s Spielberg, and as for the latter... well, it is Ready Player One.

BTW, have you watched The Void? It is not really great, but at least works as a nice throwback to 80s style horror, and the creators clearly are fanboys of both The Thing and Hellraiser.

I think it's because The Office (US) doesn't really move people professionally. Like it goes from the branch about to be closed, to the branch isn't closed but they have to take in new people for about the first 5 seasons, whereas in Parks and Rec in the same time Leslie wins the election and becomes councilwoman. The Office (US) usually has the job in the background and the complications be character vs character, whereas Parks and Rec usually has the complication as characters vs job responsibility.

Also Scrubs is better than both.

Tom Green has started a podcast that I am really enjoying. It's a take on his podcast he ran out of his house in the 2000s that was way ahead of its time. He streamed himself setting up and stuff which I thought was awesome and had a lot of test runs. Takes calls from random listeners oh a rotary house phone and then a normal skype call. Pretty good production quality as well and he does it all himself. He literally learned production so he could do it.

Don't normally sing praises of podcasts but this one is pretty relaxing and kind of surreal.

Tom Green may get some shit sometimes but he is underrated as fuck.

It's interesting to see how it's all come full circle.

Catching him on MTV and then the early web show days. How everyone would just mess with him endlessly. Neil Hamburger in the background doing his thing.

And now we've got Tom returning to it all.

It's comfy.

and it is funny as shit to see his fan base almost unanimously turning against him, his subs are freefalling faster than the DOW and he is hemorrhaging money on stupid shit, if you look at his community on circlejerk and elsewhere he is taking massive shit and it all gets an overwhelmingly positive response, with his fans even saying that he pushed them far away from his retarded ideas

i am here for it, he lost me a long time ago, a living example of severe CTE, I don't judge it or people who participate in it, he's a free man, but it should make people think twice about getting into a sport that makes you retarded

he will not shut the fuck up about saunas and how sad he is as a fucking millionaire that he can't sit down and eat inside at White Castle. He also had to get an IV bag of nutrients because he was so exhausted after a flight from Florida to LA, he's one step away from getting infant adrenochrome infused into his blood like the Clintons
