It's that time of year. Can you feel it in the air? Only September 14th and already they have candies and pumpkin Trick-or-Treat baskets on sale at the supermarket.

I try to watch at least one movie a night in October to celebrate. What will you be watching this year?

Check out Shadow of the Vampire after you've seen Nosferatu.
It's a sort of fictionalized documentary on how the movie was made, it's pretty interesting but also entertaining.

where my /hereditary/ fam at

Ari Aster debuted with a five star film called hereditary that i posted about here when it released because i thought it was p cool tbh.

now im curious if anyone here has seen the director’s second film “Midsommer” and what did ya think of it?

I thought it had great scene transitions from start to finish, and it made me uncomfortable in the most awesome sense for a movie. I recommend this film if you arent going to horror movies for your typical jump-scare suspense type spots. Not a harsh critic so maybe its just me but I thought this shit was great.

Late to the party on this one.

It was alright. It really could have stood to have been 45 minutes or so shorter. It really starts to slog on. It is definitely an interesting concept and the unique society shit keeps it kinda interesting for longer than it probably should.

Not entirely sure what the point is though. I mean, the story is basically some college kids go into a cult and only one makes it out alive but then she turns into their leader after a trippy dance ceremony? Then she burns her boyfriend alive for being drugged and "cursed" into having sex with a cult member? I dunno, what is the Westerner American dance girl supposed to just lead this primitive tribal cult now?

I'd probably have turned it off and just read a cliffnotes of the remainder if it wasn't for My enjoyment watching like 50 skinny blonde white girls endlessly dance around and be cute and shit. Also, who the fuck would pick that gangling ugly redhead over that cutey Dani? I'll give a beleaguered pass to the stupid plotline of somewhat forced adultery=a horrific murder for this fact alone.

Really though, Christian was pretty much innocent. War never changes.

The pacing was too slow, especially with how predictable everything was. The characters were pretty boring and unlikable. The effects were really good, and the cinematography was good, too. They really nailed how vibrant and weird things are when tripping, but the suspense and discomfort fall flat after that first mushroom scene.
I went in with high hopes, but this film didn't deliver. 9/10 for the visuals. 9/10 for the practical effects, looked like something straight from LiveLeak. 5/10 for pacing and plot.

Looks like Jessie Pinkman is getting his own Netflix movie. What are your thoughts?

I'll definitely watch it. I loved the first three or four seasons of Breaking Bad, but looking back, it sort of tanked during season five. I still enjoyed it, but some of the writing was pretty dumb.

Did anyone else remember the general threads we had back when the show was airing? I look back fondly of the times when people didn't know what foreshadowing meant.

I like the bookending of Jessie freaking the fuck out maniacally through the desert at night with him calmly driving in Alaska showing the change in his emotions. He really was a victim of location more than anything. How much of this would he have gone through had he not lived where he lived. Reminded me of Saul doing the reverse.

I finished watching it off of a roundtrip commute. It was pretty decent. I agree with whoever was saying that the flashbacks either drag or feel unnecessary. I also agree with >>410771 for saying that Jesse participating in a gun duel felt out of character. It still felt nostalgic to watch, though. It felt like a Breaking Bad episode.

>saying they aren't real movies is just flat out wrong and pretentious.

Not really, but I understand why you'd feel that way. Let's take a look at what he said.

>"I don't see them. That's not cinema. Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being."

Do comic book movies need to be deep, or convey psychological experiences to the audience? No. But, these movies are mainly just spectacle. I don't hate on comic book movies at all, I'll see em' in theaters, but most of them aren't that memorable. They were just fun during the moment of watching them. The same exact way a theme park is. To make matters worse, Marvel movies are pretty formulaic.

disney should start advertising their movies as theme park rides. that way instead of people complaining about how expensive a trip to the movies is getting, they'll be pleasantly surprised at how cheap a trip to disneyland has become.

It's a Swedish movie about suicide, following a man around during the final day of his life. He is a CEO or something. From what little I can remember he meets up with his mistress (his secretary), has sex with her leaning on a car and later abducts (?) his demented mother from a nursing home. There is a climatic scene on a beach where they try to have a conversation. The whole thing is very, very Von Trier so I doubt it's Danish although it could be Norwegian.

Pic related it's Finnish.

I made this thread to talk about the episodes though, not why you quit watching 3 years ago, so please chill with that.

Thought the premiere was good;

ok the satellite?? odd.. but ok, I guess, it's not anything I ever imagined but if it serves a purpose I'm open to it. At the very least it made Eugene get some exercise lol. I hate that whole stallionold-swinger-whatever-4way thing that he, Gabriel, Sadiq, and Rosa have. Dig her mean muggin Neagan tho, she don't forget what happened that night. Carol is my least favorite person so I don't care about her and Darryl's little get-away, though the end with her and Alpha was cool. Wonder if Aaron is going to pull a heel turn? Also I thought Lydia would be more accepted by now.

I see more and more parallels between the two every day and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if The Rise of Skywalker doesn't end with Rey and Ben bring the light and dark sides together to form a more balanced order. I don't know why the first time that made me see this came from a fuckin' Reylo video but the more I see the comparisons the more I see this being true every day.

Also, fuck you, Dark Crystal for naming your Netflix series "Age of Resistance" which is the official name Disney gave the sequel's time frame.''
