If I see one more movie with a total cut off cliffhanger type of ending I’m going to get inside my washing machine and turn it on with the lid shut.

Do you feel that the Pusher Trilogy is also an exception? I can't imagine that working half as well as it did if we found out what happened to each character at the end of each movie? The cliffhangers really let the feeling of hopelessness sink in for each of the characters.

At least Quentin Tarantino's films have endings in them since he doesn't do sequels and no Kill Bill doesn't count since that's one film split into two parts.

Not sure how you got outrage from that? Just saying that just because a lot of people like a movie doesn't mean it's a movie deserving of an award, or even that it's a good movie necessarily. And to be clear, I'm not saying Black panther was bad. Just fairly mediocre and I don't think it deserves an award just because black people like it and racial tension is high in the US (when is it not?). That's not an artistic award, it's just politics

But I'm also aware we're talking about the oscars here and it's been an award show without muvh signifcance for decades that that's little morethan hollywood circlejerk with politics interspersed. I was just cruising the front page and didn,t agree with higgy's point is all.

So... did you guys like the new Pokemans movie?

I was pleasantly surprised. Went in with low expectations and it was actually pretty good, almost great. It had that 90's adventure movie pacing that actually makes movies work. Well worth a watch.

Yeaaaah, I want horror lads. Cosmic horror, existential horror, the good dank shit.

It doesn't even have to be strictly horror. 2001: A Space Odyssey and True Detective s1 dip into cosmic horror just fine without being horror.

Just finished it, loved Haunting of Hill House.

Hell, I'm sitting here with red eyes, sniffling. I wouldn't have minded a horror ending, but this was good too.
I'm just happy that it took an unexpected turn. I rather have the series do a 180 into drama than turn in formulaic horror I can see coming from a mile.

The ending of HoHH did make it less of an existential ghost story, and more like cosmic horror? The house isn't really evil, it just is a place where the laws of physics end and weird shit happens? And when you combine that with fragile human minds and bodies, you end up with a lot of dead people and people with mental issues.

Any characters ruined whole shows for you?

To the point where you couldn't even finish the first season?

To the point you wished the character a horrible death and the show could continue without them?

  • Walter Whites Wife
  • The Wife and the boy in Lost in Space (Netflix)
  • Piper Chapman and Alex Vause in Orange is the new Black

All of them manipulative, unbearable fucktards.

Before High Maintenance was a HBO production it was an independent web series, initially short form episodes, many of which introduced characters who feature again in the later seasons.

The first season was free to watch, and for a while the later series were available on Vimeo as paid premium videos, but they all got yanked around the time that HBO took the reigns.

I had the originals but lost them to a hard drive failure a while ago. I haven't been able to track them down anywhere on the net since, but I figure someone out there might have a copy or access to them. They are on HBO Go, but that's not available outside of the US and in any case I resent paying for something twice.

If you do have the earlier eps & can help get them in my hands, I'll make sure a torrent goes up and stays seeded so that others can find them too (they're great).

Ya know, it's funny. We all dropped cable in favor of streaming on netflix. It seemed like a great deal because no commercials and everything is on-demand. No more "I hate paying for all these channels I don't even watch!". Now if we want to watch everything we have to subscribe to at least 4 different streaming services (and more coming all the time). So were essentially back to paying the same or even more per month. Unless you're willing to go through the trouble of rotating which service you subscribe to every month and just binge the 1-2 shows you wanna see on it?

I think in the future were gonna have a resurgence of a cable-like service that combines ever streaming site together for one price.

War never changes.

I pay for amazon-prime because I am a lazy fuck and order any thing I need for daily life and use it occasionally to watch prime video.
I pay for youtube premium because I like to support the creators and the originals are innovative.
Netflix can go fuck themselves because I don't live in the US so they can sell their region locked BS elsewhere.

And cable network streaming, LOL
they still act like torrents aren't something that every grandpa can use.
I seriously hope cable networks die.
Shows get picked up by amazon and netflix left and right so I don't even see that as a concern.

Description [from Vinegar Syndrome]: "Dolemite (Rudy Ray Moore), the baddest pimp in town, has just been released from prison, ready to take revenge on notorious gangster Willie Green (D'Urville Martin), who set him up on a phony drug charge and stole his club, The Total Experience. With the help of his friend Queen Bee (Lady Reed) and their band of Kung Fu fighting vixens, Dolemite takes on every "rat soup eatin' motherf#%*er" in South Central."

They cancelled the show because it became abundantly clear that the show runners didn't really have a real plan for it and every episode they were just sorta "winging it" along until they thru enough darts at a board until they could finally get their story structure straight.

They took way too long in trying to explain just what the fuck the REP's actually we're until they finally at the last minute decided "they're robots...robots that were made from another alien race entirely to combat yet another race of world conquering aliens with similar plans." It also doesn't help the fact this show feels like it's been living in a time machine given how insanely cliche and generic it feels a lot of the time. Like if this were to come out back in the Early 2000's era of TV this show would have lasted way longer then it did.

Plot lines just get fucking dropped and character introductions don't even matter because of how quickly the show kills them off. Biggest example would be Lt. Lagarza, Alan Synder's right hand. He completely disappears from the show after Season 1 after they spent the later half of Season 1 foreshadowing that Lagarza doesn't believe a word of Bowman's story but he can't prove it without evidence

Season 2 drops this and introduces an entirely new character which while I enjoy him there was no reason why they just cock blocked Lagarza of his potential Arc. Also all that shit with the Greatest Day could have been explored for a whole nother season. I haven't felt this cock blocked from an Arc since Lost where due to the Writers Strike, JJ had to completely throw the building of the Church Arc into the fucking trash and the plotline was dropped before it even got thru it's foundation phase

Wait is Colony based on a book?

This series peaked at Season 1. Season 1 and like small pockets of Season 2 and even Season 3 are all good in moderation but its very abundantly clear that Season 1 was the most focused because we knew what the goal was. Katie wants to kill Alan Synder. Will needs Snyder's help to get his son back from Santa Monica.

Season 2 has like a fuck ton of different stories and the season couldn't decide which was the most important. Bram joining the red Hand? Katie, Broussard and Will eliminating the Red Hand so they can make their way out of the LA Block since they know the Rep's are gonna nuke the whole fucking colony from orbit? This shit with the greatest day which is literally never brought up again after Season 2?

Don't even fucking get me started with this bullshit in Season 3. You could have dedicated the entire season to Alan McGregor. All we knew about the guy was the world once called him some crazed internet conspiracy theorist who went on /x/ and rambled about xenos coming to rape your children. The government shuts his operation down before the walls gets implemented into the newly founded colonies and then makes another counter insurgency group (since this show fucking hates Anarchist Rebels there is a group like them almost every season) but makes it Anti-Technology because the Rep's are actually electrical beings who broadcasts signals to their other colonies by ping off anything electrical baring short hands for unexplainable reasons.
