Not sure if there's a better descriptor for this type of movie, but it's definitely a "type". The kind of movies which aren't quite played straight and have heavy elements of irreverence but they are still written with some dramatic gravitas, usually have some kind of crime element and feature loads of character actors playing weird quirky individuals.

So basically any of the movies made by the Coen brothers, or John Michael/Martin McDonagh would fall into this category, but there surely must be more comfy movies like these right? Please recommend me anything you think might qualify

Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania follows Trevor Belmont, the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepes himself. As Dracula and his legion of vampires prepare to rid the world of humanity's stain, an unlikely trio of heroes dares to stand in their way.

Watch the new season now on Netflix.

That finale action scene where the Castlevania theme kicks in was hype as fuck. Whole season was really good, and I liked the balance between great character development, palace intrigue, and gory action scenes. Can't wait for season 3. Drac may be dead, but there's still lots of places for the show to go.

You know, they did an excellent job surprising me.

It's Castlevania, I didn't expect any surprises. You know they're going inside the castle, you know they're going to fight vampires, you know they're going to kill Dracula.

And I was still surprised. Especially Dracula getting a sudden lucid period when he stepped in Alucard's room.

I do wonder what's going on in the Middle East. The brigands that attack Isaac wear a mix of European and Middle-Eastern clothes, which makes it look like whatever Crusade took place during Isaac's youth failed, and he got attacked by deserters and/or bandits. The fact that those guys can just go around and do as they please implies that even if the Crusade failed, it's still chaos out there... and the last thing you want in a fucking warzone or lawless area - is motherfucking necromancers.

I can't remember any offhand now but the scores for Dario Argento's films are always fucking amazing. There was one film he used a bunch of amazing 80s Italian punk songs for. I'm gonna try and find some hold on. Okay so I guess he used this band for a lot of his movies but I think this is my favorite one

Regardless all his films are amazing and have the most 80s soundtracks ever.

I was initially coming in here to make a thread about how boring TV is lately. I mean, there ain;t shit to watch. Then I took a gander at what kind of TV shows the future will bring. Holy fuck, if even half these shows are done well, we are about to become spoiled as shit. Just look at this list of A-list properties
>Lord of the Rings, Good Omens, Wheel of Time, The Watch (Game Of Thrones spin-off), Star Wars, Y: The Last Man, Lovecraft Country, Watchmen, Locke & Key, Witcher, Kingkiller Chronicle, Halo, Vampire Chronicles, Hyperion, The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe, His Dark Materials, Welcome To the Night Vale
How will I find the time to watch all this stuff?
Anyway, what are you most hyped for? Feel free to post anything I missed.

After seeing ads for Fox's new show The Passage for weeks I finally realized it's based off a book trilogy that I've read. While the trailers make it seem like some generic "special child w/ powers may be humanities only" nonsense, the source material was pretty awesome. It's like a mix of The Strain and World War Z's (novel) style of storytelling through interviews and journal entries with a dash of Crossed + 100.

Ridley Scott is an executive producer so that lends some credence to a possibly good show (then again he did make Prometheus and Alien: Covenant). If anything, I'll wait for news of it getting renewed for a second season before I start watching it.

I tried reading it but the first half was fucking booooooooooooooring and the author's prose is absolute dogshit. Dude loves the smell of his own farts more than sharing a compelling story. The premises are there he's just an awful storyteller imo

Anyway yeah, this looks pretty generic and not really faithful to some of the cooler concepts that would otherwise make the series interesting

It is a time of relative peace among the communities as they work together, looking to the past to forge the future, but the world they knew is rapidly changing as man-made structures continue to degrade, and nature takes over, changing the landscape and creating new challenges for our survivors. As time passes, the communities confront unexpected obstacles, danger, and of course, walkers, but nothing quite prepares them for the formidable force they are about to encounter, which threatens the very idea of civilization that our survivors have worked so hard to build.

The season premieres tonight at 9pm EDT on AMC. It's also Rick and Maggie's final seasons on the show.

well, I wouldnt go that far. There’s a reason it broke every movie debut record except by a .3 or someshit to Starwars. MCU strung together 10 years of film, StarWars technically is deeper EXCEPT Marvel is older and its characters all deeper and more loved and well known.

It had way too much going on actually. That's one thing that many people complain about when talking about the movie. It was constantly jumping around and giving you 5 minutes to develop a character or a plot line and expecting you to believe it. I enjoyed the movie but one thing it didn't do well is juggle so many plots.

The Life and Times of Juniper Lee was a good show but ended on a cliffhanger. It had been renewed for two new seasons but was canceled for unknown reasons. This show should be renewed to resolve the cliffhanger. Since Samurai Jack got one more season, why not Juniper Lee? I have attached the change.org petition. Here's the URL: https://www.change.org/p/cartoon-network-and-warner-bros-bring-back-juniper-lee-on-cn-and-continue-onwards-precisely-in-two-more-seasons

I also plan to petition for a MOD DVD release of the series. Plus I'll see if I can get enough people to ask for a Throwback Week on the network. Maybe IDW could make a limited comic book series? Did I miss anything? Regardless, what do you think?

I want something really engaging and exciting that makes me want to shove popcorn on my face and jut keep watching it until it ends. I like star trek but I'm not in the mood right now.

I'm into shonen chinese cartoons, crime/drama series maybe and not much more. I've already watched all of One Piece, HunterxHunter, Hajime no Ippo, Dragon Ball, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, so don't recommend me those.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The greatest fucking comic book in history finally got a TV adaptation after two and a half goddamn decades.

Personally I prefer the original comic to the TV show, but it's pretty much a 1:1 adaptation, so either one is fine. Part 5 is actually surpassing the comic in a lot of respects IMO.
