I really hope this turns out good. I honestly just want a hobbit slice of life show honestly. Smokin' pipes and collecting mushrooms, etc.

Oh man, that is Terryfying.
If one takes the hobbit movies as a hint, that is. I''ll be too scared to check it out, but I'm looking forward to reading about how it turned out here.

Thanks for the heads up.

My first choice would have been Netflix, but I do have faith in Amazon.
Apparently it's gonna be a lotr prequel, set before Fellowship, so that's also good news. It sounds like it will basically be in universe but won't retread any of the stuff that happened in the movies (I haven't read the books). But apparently it will feature some of the characters from the series as younger versions. Let's just hope it's not the hobbits (I doubt it will be as that would be boring as fuck) and we'll have some more badass Gandalf adventures.

Also, who the fuck are they gonna get to play Gandalf? Those are some fucking shoes to fill..

Does anybody else think Tom Bombadil is like a manifestation of the divinity of nature, or happiness or something? He's a real enigma that one.

I'm honestly a bit bummed that they are making this shit, because it's just.. I don't know, why can't people create anything new? Why milk all of this great shit to the last drop? Why not find a new great book to make a movie from or anything, the original Lord of the Rings is so insanely great, that I really don't feel like it needs any more movies or series, because it's so easy that it won't come from the heart but from the wallet.

But you know, I'm not gonna be a hater, who knows. If they just choose the right fucking people for once, it might turn out great and fucking beautiful, it's a fantastic world and god knows that there is room for some good guys just kicking evil ass in the world stage. I think we need something hopeful stuff going on in the world right now.

High fantasy is probably the hardest thing to execute correctly when it comes to TV. And its huge right now.

There are other fantasy adaptations in the works RN like the Wheel of Time but I have a hard time believing they will be able to pull that off. Lotr is just good fantasy with mass appeal.

My vote goes to Keeanu Reeves as Gandalf. Jim Carrey as Sauron: Rise To Power.

As long as Varg Vikernes is still alive, I find it incredibly hard to believe I'll accept another person playing as Gandalf.

>>391009
I might check up on Wheel of Time, might be interesting. But yeah, good points dude, it's not like I'm completely opposed to the idea, it just kinda sucks when something you've grown up with is put under the butchers knife to get "resold". I guess it's kinda selfish being opposed to letting a younger generation not take part in something I enjoyed tho, I don't fucking know.

I have all the same worries but I'm just glad we're getting more fantasy. And if any universe is worthy of a series, it's Middle Earth.

I know that Amazon is gonna go all out 100%on this, I just hope they take lessons from the lotr saga and more importantly I hope they take notice the bad examples from The Hobbit movies.

I actually don't think i'd mind the WoT series being a ittle butchered... as blasphemous as it is to say that. There is just so fucking much on those books, especially considering each one is at least 1000 pages long. It's the kind of property that could survive a bit of chopping up or condensing, just as long as all the characters and major events stay true. Well at least half of the books were just overly descriptive passages about peoples clothes, but it would be extremely interesting if they used that as a blueprint for what the characters wear int he show. like if you went to the corresponding book passage for a show scene and what they are wearing matches. but honestly that's an easter egg for no one. The only thing i'd truly be worried about is how they depict channeling and weaving. Personally i could never picture it accurately myself and i read every friggin book. It could look incredibly goofy if executed badly, that's the only thing they could fuck up in this day and age of tv.

To keep this on topic though I don;t know how I feel about a LotR tv show. I'm kinda over the setting. It feels so barebones as a fantasy setting, and it's been covered extensively enough by by Peter Jackson I think. It's paved the way for more high fantasy media, so we should focus more on other properties. If we have to revisit Middle Earth AGAIN, I'd like to see them do something like a police procedural focused on the rangers. Just ranging around, doing ranger stuff, solving a crime or mystery. I dunno. Just as long as the story isn't a "grand quest" scenario. Or like OP said, a slice-of-life hobbit dramedy

Man they should make a Sword and Sorcery tv series. I'd love to see a Conan the Cimmerian tv series influenced by Robert Howard's stories or an Elric of Melnibone series.
