A Netflix series based on the classic cyberpunk novel. Subpar acting, writing, and fight choreography, but the atmosphere, cinematography, and world-building more than make up for it. And who isn't a sucker for sex, violence, and cyberpunk shit? I'm so happy cyberpunk shit is becoming mainstream. Can't wait til Ready Player One.

Big (stupid) changes from the book: Envoys are rebels instead of CTAC super-soldiers. It doesn't make any fucking sense, but apparently the feminist creator wanted to have the stronk independent black womyn in season 1 so they rewrote the envoys into the most retarded bullshit. For some reason she gave Takeshi an incestuous sister, I guess cause incest sells these days? She also made Lizzie more fleshed out because of feminist bullshit, but took out the one time Kovacs goes into a female sleeve because she didn't want a womyn to be tortured. I'm not speculating about the feminist creator btw: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/altered-carbon-creator-explains-the-shows-biggest-/1100-6456691/ The only real positive change was changing the Hendrix into the Raven imo.

Because they hired these people to read dialogue and exposition

>Subpar fight choreography
I have no explanation for this, it's actually ridiculous.

Not sure if I'll bother tbh. I've started to realise a lot of netflix shows actually piss me off. I've just watched 2 episodes of Mindhunter and I just couldn't shake the feeling that it was just Narco's Serial Killer edition in the sense that it just seemed like a show aimed at people who want by-the-numbers TV.

I don't think I've watched anything on Netflix, bar comedy, that's made me actually think. We've gone from shows like the Sopranos and Breaking Bad, to fucking Narcos. I was reading all about how film was flagging and TV is now king, but if Netfllix is the future then I'm a bit worried.

Already posted about it in the BWW thread but I think it’s cool. I’d agree the dialogue and writing could be better but you’re right that the rest makes up for it.

>>394151
Mindhunter is hardly by the numbers TV. I think of it like True Detective meets Hannibal but it’s really well done. And yeah Narcos ain’t The Sopranos and Breaking Bad but it’s still a solid show.

I just finished watching it like an hour ago and there was no feminism in it. The closest thing is a cop who gets snarked at by the lady cop, but he gets his own back later. Meanwhile there's plenty of gratuitous boob and hooker murder, and that asian chick from Dollhouse has a really long nude fight scene. Not remotely SJW-stuff.

It's decent oldschool cyberpunk. I can't not recommend it because there's so little of that. There's some good philosophy but it's a little too buried. The main character is an unrepentant asshole; I liked that.

Fuck this show Netflix wtf are you doing slow your roll you don't need to make a new series every 4 days
I don't even wanna hear "you gotta stick it out", I tried that shit with Mindhunter and that show sucks too. Netflix makes such blasé shit sometimes, comes with being the top streaming service I guess. Remember when there was a cool mov8e you haven't seen was on Netflix?! never

Jesus you have a huge hate-boner for whatever this Netflix thing is. Not sure what that has to do with this show on The Bittorrent Network, though. Every show is unique: having preconceptions because of the publisher or platform is dumb as hell.

And this show is fine. I didn't exactly binge it, which I almost always do, so it wasn't, like, amazing or anything. But I enjoyed it overall and if it had come during a sci-fi drought we'd all be sucking it's dick.

I know the SJW apocalypse is annoying and everything but you're jumping at shadows. It's okay for characters to be female and it's fine if they add new characters and those new characters are female. Neither of these are "I don't need no man" characters. Both of them literally express a need for the male protagonist and also fuck him.
Maybe you're a book fan and you're mad about them fucking with it, that's understandable, but your aim fucking sucks.

The thing about Breaking Bad is that it's one of the only shows that did two endings, and they're both good.

To bring up the proto-Breaking Bad of the 90's, when Babylon 5 was getting the axe after season 4, they cannibalized season 5 and crunched it down into one. Then they got renewed. The ensuing Season 5 was shit, and overly stuffed with filler.

Breaking Bad's Season 4 ending was good. Breaking Bad's Season 5 ending was good, and you can't fault it for running 12/23 episodes of filler.

TV really has progressed as a format.

The series, written and produced by Avatar co-writer Laeta Kalogridis, is said to be Netflix's most expensive genre show to date, at $US6 to $US7 million per episode. More expensive than breaking bad, but at least they art doing some cool future art stuff. Could be some interesting series made in the future.

It is abundantly clear that at least half of the people posting in this thread didn't watch the show and have no interest in it. It's kinda baffling how people have such an interest in watching things fail when there is no real reason, or just some ridiculously trivial reason. I mean I wanted Suicide Squad to fail but that was because it looked HORRIBLE and it made 0 sense that it was getting so much hype, everyone else should have noticed what I and many others did. But people attaching stupid identity politics shit to themselves and wanting shit to fail because they believe that "thing" is feminist even though it clearly isn't is just fucking absurd. And yes you screeching frogs are also very involved in identity politics as much as you like to screech about how much you hate it it.

Literally everything is SJW's and feminists these days, here. I wish the fucking frogs would go away because they used to not be very active on this board. I'm thinking about jumping ship.

Anyways, done with that tangent, it was a good show. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The dialogue wasn't great but it wasn't bad. The fight choreography was maybe 7/10, it was acceptable but I don't watch shows for fight choreography. The biggest lure was obviously the world and the story and both were done very well.

I gave it a 4/5.

4/5 post apart from the hypocritical tribalist bullshit.

Protip there are a lot more than two "sides" in anything, and lately the chans have been seriously infested with false flag shillposts meant to fan the flames. So when you see posters acting worse than stereotypically retarded, remember you have no idea who's really behind it. Kind of ironic in a cyberpunk thread.

Finished watching the show. For someone that likes cyberpunk, lots of action and interesting science ficition concepts, I really liked it. Also thought Joel Kinnaman did a good job as Kovacs though he probably won’t be back next season if it gets renewed.
