Before season 5 drops, Black Mirror is releasing a feature-length film, presumably with a choose your own adventure feature:

>A young programmer makes a fantasy novel into a game. Soon, reality and virtual world are mixed and start to create confusion.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. First time through I picked all options that kept story going so didnt know you could pick incorrect. Went back and watched all the other options.

When does season 5 drop?

So does the film have an illusion of choice where you can pick different options but they still kind of end on one of two endings like The Walking Dead game and Life is Strange?

No word on season 5's date yet though.

I hear 5 endings are available and that they filmed 5 hours of footage for this thing.

How often does it interrupt the story? I assume you'll have to use a remote if you want to kick back and watch this.

I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought it would. Leave the interactive storytelling to video games.

Fmv games are notoriously shitty, leave them in the past.

Though if Black Mirror made their own version of Night Trap or Plumbers Don't Wear Ties that would be hilarious.

Is this the third or fourth Black Mirror episode that's about videogames?

Hum I'm kinda interested. The whole "artist losing touch with reality while working on a project" isn't exactly new but I'm open to the choose your own adventure bit. I liked FMV games. As long as they play the plot into the choice bit it could be great.

Yes no matter what the story will end in a pre determined way like a choose your own adventure book but still fun. You get interrupted to make choices a good amount. Every few minutes or so. Some choices aren't important.

I really want season 5 to be released. Now.

Played it, enjoyed it, felt it could've gone a lil deeper with choices but considering this has never really been done before, it's still fucking cool.

That being said, I watched it with friends and all they did was moan and complain the entire fucking time. I guess their perspective is that you weren't actually choosing your own story because if your decision was bad, the story would end and go back to the beginning. Because of this, they began encouraging me to pick the "safe" options because they just wanted to see the story progress and they didn't want the story to start over again.

I told them that they didn't understand or appreciate the show. Half the fun in this is picking the bad options, enjoying the ensuing chaos, and then going back and picking the option that pushes the story forward. They didn't seem to get this, and they don't seem to care.

Sorry if I'm ranting. Just wanna bitch about my shitty friends who ruined it for me. Also, I guess if there's any meaning here, it's that we shouldn't expect these "pick your own story" narratives to be the norm anytime soon because there are people in this world who don't enjoy making decisions. They just wanna be spoon-fed.

The torrent I found on Rarbg was 1 hour 33 minutes, I assume it's just the Safe Mode version and none of the alternative storylines/endings (haven't watched yet to confirm)

It hits all the significant outcomes/endings.

I think the 5h of footage refers to looping segments with minor modifications based on choices made. The 1h33min version seems to hit everything including the Pearl ending.

Pretty great
Pretty sure I got most of the endings/possible arcs but overall would watch another choose your own adventure story/10. Kinda wished they had some more puzzles or choices that would be affected how by how well you listened and payed attention but I realize that would probably pissed off alot of Netflix audiences

I watched it last night and thought it was pretty neat but having choices pop up completely took me out of the story, which you'd think would be more immersive, and IMO it got too meta.
The "netflix" option was silly as fuck.
Still, as something this experimental I think they did a great job but it didn't really leave me wanting more like it. To be honest I hope this is the first and last choose your adventure black mirror episode

The acting and directing of the actual content was pretty solid, but the interactive part was not very interesting. And they really had the cater the entire storyline around the idea of interactive stories to have it be relevant.

Please no more of this shit

Nah this ep sucked compared to normal Black Mirror quality. Show peaked at White Christmas and shouldn't have returned, or the Netflix show should have used a new title so I wouldn't constantly compare it a time when episodes weren't shitty.

Yeah, I'll defend my choice of White Christmas by saying that it seems to be the most repeated story in future seasons, the episode lots of writers seem desperate to recapture the glory of. Multiple episodes have rehashed its plotlines and themes, most notably USS Callister.

This, its steadily been getting worse and worse. It started around the time Netflix jumped in but I don't know if that is the cause its just no where near the level it used to be.

Just because it came before doessnt mean it's better. Uss Callister is a better episode and explores the theme of the cookie further. I liked white christmas but the whole blocking thing was weird and not realistic as well as many other aspects of that episode. I'd say Callister or Crocodile is my favorite

Finally watched this. In the ending where he goes back to childhood, was he trying to save his Mom's life, only to learn that it was pointless and got killed along with her for his troubles? Or did he intentionally make it so they'd still be late, and that was his form of committing suicide?

I got a new debit card number today so signed up for a free trial of netflix just to watch this.

It was okay. my personal favourite ending was when you try to jump out the window and they yell cut and show that its just a tv set because the window wont open. Im pretty sure i seen all the possible endings because i got the credits after he killed his dad without me choosing too, which was a nice touch because i refused to push that kill dad button

It was a good episode, quite frustrating with lots of retreading.

Im not too sure im quite satisfied with the prescribed ending assuming its where he goes full schizo and kills his dad, calls his therapist to confess then buries his body

Good episode though, i feel it was heavily inspired by Sam Harris' book Free Will.
