I travel a lot for work, but to be honest I can't stand most television travel hosts. They're usually way too peppy, and they tend to promote the blandest sorts of tourism.

However, this is starting to change, and I suspect a big reason for that change is Anthony Bourdain. They're beginning to explore the cultures in greater depth, and they're starting to go to more interesting, and in some cases extreme, places.

Anthony Bourdain is far and away the best cable travel guy I've seen, and he's the only one I'm a fan of. No Reservations, The Layover, and Parts Unknown are all great.

A YouTube person I would really recommend is The Food Ranger. For me, personally, he's a little too gushy and peppy, but he gets the best food and goes to really interesting places, so he's definitely worth it IMO. Here's a decent video to give you some idea of what he does: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltUDZD1vgxQ

I watched a few episodes of Gaycation semi-recently, parts were interesting but it was mostly just Ellen Page and her gay bff wanting to "be important" and expose injustice and shit instead of just showing us the gay parts of town in different cities around the world. don't recommend.

every episode is centered around one theme which makes the episodes feel more structured and interesting imo, plus there's no annoying Ricky Gervais cackling at him. overall I think it's just more chill.

I used to really enjoy seeing what was out there as far as food that he would find. Even when I've traveled I've never been quite as daring as he is to take on things that seem well beyond palatable in my mind. Still blows my mind how many people will travel to foreign cities and want to eat at american fast food joints though.

Gordon's Great Escape is some good shit. I don't like Ramsay as much as Bourdain, and his pig-headedness can lead to some comments/attitudes in his traveling that are a little less refined, but I especially love travel stuff when it's centered around food, so Great Escape is god for getting my fix once I've run through all the Bourdain stuff on Netflix.

Man, this is the second time this week I've shilled Gordon Ramsay content on this board. What the fuck is happening to me.

anthony bourdain always comes across as really rude and condescending. ive seen on different episodes where he just has this dickhead smirk on his face when guests are telling him about something, and he will often cut them off or interrupt them and try to show off how he already knows more about the local food than the local chef who just fuckin made it. idk thats just always the vibe his shows give me
