If Sunny=Seinfeld, what's the point of Mac?

File: 1530074871864.jpg -(23581B / 23.03KB, 206x305) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size. If Sunny=Seinfeld, what's the point of Mac?
I have an ongoing discussion with my friend:

-Dennis=Jerry because he's the ringleader while being disinterested and narcissistic, lot of shallow relationships, decent body but shit personality, most successful of them
-Dee=Elaine with physical comedy and being unavailable to the male lead (Jerry's ex/Dennis sister), occasional freakouts
-Charlie=George because he's the bottom rung, the idiot, weird interests and hobbies (slime and rats vs public bathrooms), some Kramer with his occasional brilliance
-Frank=Newman with similar body type, nefarious schemes, and happy go lucky outlook

So what the hell is Mac?
Ren Höek - Wed, 27 Jun 2018 01:11:17 EST yV3ximT+ No.399703 Reply
Interesting take. I've always thought that Mac is the best part of Sunny and definitely the best writing goes into him. He's just a very unique kind of character. It's really hard to put a label on what kind of person he is. It's kinda like they just threw a bunch of strange male neurosis and weird Freudian shit together, along with a bunch of gender normative/gender dysfunctional shit. He's an aberration when it comes to tv characters and I think his character and all of his insecurities and weird traits say a lot about society in America specifically for men and the way they act vs how they're supposed to. He's a walking oxymoron full of contradictions.

no that would be Frank

Actually this is an odd comparison in general and I think you can't figure out Mac because none of this makes any sense at all.
Nicolas Winding Refn - Wed, 27 Jun 2018 10:51:51 EST RNoOTJrn No.399716 Reply
I'd say Charlie is Kramer but has a lot of disappointment like George. So he's a mix of the two.

Mac is all the parent characters from Seinfeld rolled into one.
Chase Masterson - Wed, 27 Jun 2018 11:13:54 EST h6PZxEoz No.399717 Reply
in terms of group dynamics Mac is George and Charlie is Kramer, it's just the difference between a New York George and a Philadelphia one if you know what I mean
Larry Clark - Wed, 27 Jun 2018 11:36:09 EST mPJHQq4b No.399718 Reply
They split Kramer between Charlie and Frank. Mac is George because up until Gay Mac he was the sexually frustrated, loser-ish one and main pal to the male lead.
Larry Clark - Wed, 27 Jun 2018 11:39:59 EST mPJHQq4b No.399719 Reply
Forgot to mention that like "My friend Bob Sacamano", Frank always has the hookup just like Kramer, from a past and various associations that take place off-screen. Then they have Charlie all the wild card elements of Kramer.

Rickety Cricket is Newman. Is there an equivalent for The Waitress? I love this discussion cause I've always thought of Always Sunny as evil Seinfeld. I think someone else termed it Seinfeld with crack.

I'm not sure there is a static character that equates with The Waitress, she's more an amalgamation of all the shitty dates and girlfriends Jerry and George go through. Idk that's still not an accurate comparison but close enough

Mac's parents as a unit are George's parents as a unit: their dysfunction still affects their adult son's life. But Charlie's mom as an individual is Estelle

Did anybody else get a crappy comedy movie vibe from that trailer? Or am I just being cynical. Who cares, it's just a trailer, and they're trying to show off some wacky moments. Idk.

Also, I don't think we saw any of Dennis in that trailer. Hmmmm... I wonder if they just did that on purpose to keep people guessing and in fact he is gonna be back in the first episode.

The writers aren't trying to glorify the alt-right. The stuff the characters do is meant to reflect poorly on them. The scripts are just getting meta for the Trump era and trying to remind us that the Gang was a bunch of deplorables long before Hillary coined the term.

Ep started weak but the final 5 minutes were gold. The fight scene was poorly made but still funny that it even happened. Between that, Dee raping a child, and Frank's final comment that the accident was his fault and the asian lady did everything by the book, it was a satisfying episode

Mac = George
He's fat. He considers himself the "brain of the operations". He's compulsive yet sensitive. He's always trying to impress everyone. He is highly competetive and jealous of other's success. He seeks acceptance. He's always trying to play a role other than himself. He's insecure on the inside and cocky on the outside. He's neurotic and prone to overconfidence.

Frank = Kramer
His past is always shrouded and mystery. He's the most selfish. He comes up with the craziest plans. Every time he walks in the room the focus shifts to him. He's extremely shallow yet sometimes the most supportive and caring. He's always worked up about something yet somehow also the most collected and confident. He is blunt and honest. He converts other peoples environments and property to suit his needs. He pursuades people to do things against their best judgement. He is "known to embrace strange philosophies unique to himself, and reject acceptable social behaviors or established facts."

Charlie = Charlie

Well I thought it sucked. It was pretentious, it took itself way too seriously and it was masturbatory as hell. Yes Rob we get it, you're a real artist, a great dancer, you're totally ripped and woke as fuck. And then everyone starts clapping. The end.

I can't wait for 'The Gang Jumps the Shark' next season where they do a meta self-aware take on the fact that the show has gone down the toilet, but without any genuine effort being made to change that fact. They'll probably dress up Dennis like the Fonz and have him get eaten by the shark because Glenn Howerton just doesn't want to be involved anymore. You seen it here first folks. Screencap it.

Worst season so far. And yes I am butthurt.

I didn't even care about the dance itself, but Devito's acting on the sidelines really sold the scene for me. Frank hating Mac has been one of my favorite jokes ever since the episode Being Frank, and they don't bring it up as often as other running jokes. Devito's acting was Emmy worthy, and for the whole ep, not just that scene.

After last season ended with the big "is Dennis leaving or not" thing, I had a bad feeling they were going to kill off Frank in this finale. Like, Devito decided to quit the show and that to write him off, the big dance number would end with Mac looking up to find Frank's heart-attack stricken corpse. So glad I was wrong.
