The format is kinda inspired by the art-house thread

>Post a picture of the movie
>include a short description (genre, plot, etc.)

Preferably Movies that are not already covered by existing threads, such as zombie, horror, capeshit, anime etc. I would personally love to see some foreign cinema, independent or not, post 2000, since all the websites are recommending the same shit.

I'll start with some Korean movies I've been digging up recently:

>A Muse / Eungyo 2012

Lee Jeok-yo is a 70ish year old man who is a respected poet. He cares fondly for his 30ish year old disciple Seo Ji-woo. The world of these two men are shaken when 17-year-old high school student Han Eun-gyo comes into the picture, as their mind and sexual desires are awakened.

This movie is over 2 hours long. I didn't finish the whole thing, but especially if you have a thing for literature, it's definitely worth checking out

>A Hard Day 2014

After trying to cover up a car accident that left a man dead, a crooked homicide detective is stalked by a mysterious man claiming to have witnessed the event

watch out, it's either this one or the next one I post where the top torrents on pirate bay are fucking dubbed. You don't want to watch dubbed shit.

>The Man from Nowhere 2010

A quiet pawnshop keeper with a violent past takes on a drug-and-organ trafficking ring in hope of saving the child who is his only friend.

>Architecture 101 (2012)
original title: Geon-chook-hak-gae-ron

Seung-Min is hired against his wishes by an old flame to design and build her new home.
(yeah, I know pretty bad synopsis, more here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2337981/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1)

I didn't download this movie because it's probably gonna destroy me. Looks a bit cheesy and everyone including the extras had plastic surgery done I think, but it looks like it's not as predictable as one might think and it will still have an emotional impact.

>Ode to My Father 2014
original title: Gukjesijang

Amid the time of Korean War, a young boy's vow to take care of his family marked the beginning of a lifelong promise spanning 60 years.

This felt like a true epic; very similar to Memoirs of a Geisha in many ways.

I saw Tehran Taboo the other day, it was very interesting the animation was dope.

>In this gorgeously animated drama, the lives of several strong-willed women and a young musician intersect. Their stories reveal the hypocrisies of modern Iranian society, where sex, drugs, and corruption coexist with strict religious law. In the bustling metropolis of Tehran, avoiding prohibitions has become an everyday sport and breaking taboos can be a means of personal emancipation. Nevertheless, women invariably end up on the bottom rung of the social order. A young woman needs an operation to restore her virginity. A judge in the Islamic Revolutionary Court exhorts favors from a prostitute in exchange for a favorable judgement. The wife of an imprisoned drug addict is denied the divorce she needs in order to live independently. Making use of rotoscope animation, expat Iranian filmmaker Ali Soozandeh creates a portrait of contemporary Tehran that would be impossible by any other means.

is my arthouse thread already dead? If it is i'll support this one. I want some good suggestions as well

It may already be too well known, but
>La piel que habito (2011), by Pedro Almodovar
is amazing. I strongly suggest it to anyone who, for example, liked Dogtooth, or Lars von Trier, or that kind of stuff.

Also the ayatollahs in the background look like the Mario Bros on first glance.

Great movie, but god damn you can tell that porn is banned in Korea and they make up for it in the pop music/cinema.

The sex scenes are kinda gratuitous, and I LOVE Korean lesbians.

>Little Malcolm and his struggle against The Eunuchs
>An art student is thrown out of college. Depressed, he comes up with the Party of Dynamic Erection, a near fascist "party" that promotes male sexual dominance and which attracts a couple of other unsavory confused characters.

Nobody has seen this which is a shame as it feels really relevant to today. Prescient even. Malcolm and his PDE are pimps. The Eunuchs are that other word that ends in an "uck" sound, you know the one I mean. pimps in the North of England in the 60s. It's great.

It's a film of a play so it does have that slightly theatre feel to it but it works a lot better than something like The History Boys. The actors do a great job.

Ah, that reminds me of another German movie I thought was really really good.

>Der Staat gegen Fritz Bauer (The State vs Fritz Bauer) 2015

The story of the man who brought high-ranking German Nazi criminal Adolf Eichmann to justice.

Havent seen this one but will definetly check that out. Another German movie that looks good is 13 minutes. It's about one of the many failed plots to kill Hitler. This attempt was the second closest next to operation valkyrie (also good movie) with the bomb missing him by 13 minutes.

But definelty watch The lives of others before all these. It is on my top 100 movies list.

One of the best movies I've ever seen. It shows how East Germany was basically like Orwell's 1984 or today's NOK. Almost every citizen was spied on without any due process and could be arrested at any moment. The main character works for the Stazi and becomes incresingly sympathetic towards the people he spies on for the state. I pasted a summary below, but yeah def a must watch. It won a well deserved oscar for best foreign film.

In 1983 East Berlin, dedicated Stasi officer Gerd Wiesler (Ulrich Mühe), doubting that a famous playwright (Sebastian Koch) is loyal to the Communist Party, receives approval to spy on the man and his actress-lover Christa-Maria (Martina Gedeck). Wiesler becomes unexpectedly sympathetic to the couple, then faces conflicting loyalties when his superior takes a liking to Christa-Maria and orders Wiesler to get the playwright out of the way.

To add to what the one above wrote, it's one of my favorite films too. I'm actually showing it to a friend this saturday. I think the pacing is actually what makes me like it so much. Also one of the few movies that have made me cry.

It's a concise tale first and foremost, told within Hitchcock's bladder test of two hours and, as with all great things, can be read subjectively or objectively – as per the ending.
