American Horror Story returns for its eighth season Apocalypse, which is supposed to be a crossover between Murder House and Coven with possibly the other seasons being featured as well. How will they pull it off?

Watch the season Wednesdays at 10pm EDT on FX

Man, I wish the previous season hit streaming before the new season airs, but as it stands (not having cable) I'm always 2 seasons behind. Been following the series since it aired and finally watched Roanoke last year when it got onto Netflix. I like how since Freakshow, they've been slowing interweaving the series and it seems like Apocalypse is gonna have this as a main theme.

I still think no series has topped Asylum, but Hotel came close for me just cuz I loved the themes, setting, and general aesthetic of the season (vampires and 80s dark wave is muh shit) even if it got convoluted in the last half, as most AHS seasons tend to do.

I didn't hear much about Cult tbh, but that could just be me avoiding spoilers.

I was a huge Hotel fan too and thought Cult was just as good, although it's a tad more comedic like Murder House.

I skipped out on cult because it has no supernatural stuff. I liked Roanoke a lot because it is very clearly tethered to the real world, the ending kinda sucked though.

The only positive things I can say about the show are it's teasers are well made and Hotel's soundtrack was great. This concludes my positive statements on the AHS series.

It's okay, I'll keep watching it for now.
My favorites are probably the first, Asylum and Coven (I'm biased towards magic). The others range from 'sort of shit' to mediocre.

How hard is it to not fuck, if that's pretty much 1 of 2 rules? You just fucking know that the 'MC' wont be able to stop himself from going oil drilling and cause a lot of unnecessary, totally avoidable drama. And it's going to be dumb as fuck. Also if they were 'selected for their genes', one would expect their purpose to be to procreate to begin with but I'm fine with finding out the reason for that later.

Why the fuck would they use horses if they just die when exposed to the atmosphere? Food supplies seem to be low, nothing will grow outside and horses consume a fuckton of food, I can sort of excuse one-use carrier pigeons but one wonders how effective they would be in an atomic winter with tons of mutants hunting for food.
I guess they're really doubling down on the "technology is evil" meme but then one has to ask themselves what they specify as technology. They clearly have nothing against using high tech breathing apparatuses and suits. They're also using guns and doors which are unlocked with keycards (but no electricity involved?).

How would a simple car be any worse than any of the above?

I didn't even notice, it was so bonkers that I didn't think twice.

And it isn't the first time they dialed back on the supernatty stuff, Freak Show only had one tiny paranormal subplot that they only touched on for minutes in just two episodes.

I didn't like Freak Show and never ended up finishing it, but not because of a lack of supernatural stuff.
Also going by the bathroom scene when the guy first got to the compound with the whole 666 thing I think we can expect some supernatural events to be taking place.

Are Season 5 and 6 (Hotel and Roanoke) worth watching? I think I only watched the first episodes of them before dropping. I liked the first 3 and Cult.

I almost dropped Hotel after the premiere byut wound up loving it. That said, many people hate it. It's good if you like your horror to be hypersexual and violent while 80s music plays.

I hated Roanoke though.

Can't speak about Hotel but Roanoke was worth watching, it's just my opinion that it sucked towards the end. Throughout the season there's essentially 3 different show premises. The first one and most of the second one were really fun then the third one was just some lame 4th wall breaking shit that they thought was innovative but really just felt masturbatory.

Hotel is good if you like your AHS as campy as possible like I do. Bit of a mess but it's got some fun parts and some of my favorite characters in the entire series. I liked the gimmick in Roanoke but it kinda wore on me as time went on and the ending bit didn't do anything for me.

I didn't like Freakshow either, aside from Dandy who's one of the series's best characters. The contemporary music numbers really took me out of it, like Life On Mars was great but Nirvana and Lana Del Rey songs in the 50s? It felt like Glee. I honestly dont remember the last half of that season cuz it just fell apart.

Hotel is one of my faves (like I said in the first reply, vampers and 80's goth music is my jam) but like others said, it's definitely more campy and more character driven. Also as a huge Buffy fan, I loved seeing the Hotel from Angel being used for more vampire shenanigans. The overarching plot isn't strong but the season oozes aesthetic. I think that's what it comes down to for me with AHS: the plot doesn't have to be great but the characters and style have to be stellar and standout.

Roanoke was really cool when it did the dramatic reenactment, documentary shit, but I think it kind of loses steam when it switches gears into being a reality show. It's a cool idea but I remember the ending being a let down. The scenes with the hick cannibal family tho is some of the best horror in the series imo, and the way they bring in the "real horror shit" after seeing it in dramatic reenactments is cool.

I was reading some articles recently ranking the seasons and it surprised me that so many people seem to love Coven and Freakshow. Those are the weakest imo.

I take that back. Coven had great characters and style but the season was so boring because all it focused on was "who's the next Supreme!?" And it became a Harry Potter pissing contest.

I thought the premiere was good though not a lot of horror out of the gate aside from the world ending and Stu being shot and being made into stew. I laughed at the “Stu is stew!” line but I like the post-apocalyptic theme. This season is already starting to remind me of The Handmaid’s Tale but I’m interested to see how the characters from Murder House and Coven will factor into this season. I’ve missed Tate. And I put the two and two together after they revealed that the character that met with Mrs. Venable was an adult Michael Langdon.

>>402567
Yeah I can agree with that. Coven had some good characters like Delphine and The Axe Man for example. I think that since Coven’s plot was mainly concerned with witches rather than normal people getting themselves involved with the horrors going on with witches themselves, it didn’t make the season feel like there were any stakes at all.

I'm liking the stuff with Michael and the had with Mr. Gallant and Ms. Venable. Can't wait to see how his half-human, half-ghost capabilities come into play though I don't really have a reason to care about anyone else right now and it was a slow episode though Mr. Gallant killing his grandma was crazy and the reveal of Mead not being human.

Enjoyable episodes so far. Not as immediately awesome as I found Murder House and Cult, but seems to have potential to maintain itself all season, as if they actually planned a plot this time for once in their writing careers. I didn't realize the long hair dude was supposed to be Tate's rape-baby after the premiere until reading Higgy's spoiler post in here. How the fuck am I supposed to remember their last name was Langdon in a season that aired 8 years ago?

It was one of those “you’ll miss it if you don’t read it carefully” moments. Even I missed it until my friend pointed it out. Plus this is a Murder House/Coven crossover so you’ll be seeing plot elements from both of those seasons being incorporated into Apocalypse.

They just put Cult on Netflix, watching it for the first time and about to start the finale. I'm glad I waited cuz I think watching it as it aired so close to the election would've made it seem cringey, but now it feels like decent campy satire. AHS has always been over the top, but the political commentary is balanced well enough with Evan Peters carrying the series as the cult leader. Plus, Paulson's 180 character arc gives me Lana Winter vibes. It's good to see those two drive a season together again. I appreciate this season has a central theme and vision, unlike other seasons (Freakshow) that get bloated and convoluted.

Definitely looking forward to Apocalypse now, but I'll wait to binge the whole thing. This show's more enjoyable for me that way. Gonna go back and watch Coven, since I only watched it once as it aired, to see if my opinion on it changes.

This scene was pretty dumb, what kind of security camera keeps changing angels and automatically pivots towards any action? And it's clear that there's not supposed to be a camera man in the scene directing it.

A lot of them. It's incredibly dumb to use them that way rather than just having more cameras or wider shots and higher resolutions. People do it because they're lazy/limited funds/stupid or just trying to deter crime from happening in the first place

So it looks like Murder House and Coven aren’t the only seasons involved in this season. Was cool to see James March again since he was one of my favorite characters from Hotel. I did like the focus on telling Michael’s backstory from three years ago and setting up for a witches vs. warlocks thing like Coven did with witches vs. voodoo.

>>403160
Yeah it was a bit weird that they didn’t just have a static security camera like they usually would for those kimds of interrogation scenes but I gave it a pass.

That was actually a really good episode and I liked how they revisited Murder House to show what happened after its season finale and of course it was good to see Jessica Lange back. Same with seeing Tate again. And as much as I'm not a fan of Emma Roberts' acting, I thought she was good here. Then again I think her playing characters like Madison as well as Chanel on Scream Queens suits her skillset.

This week's episode was better since it was just focused on Michael. The Satanism stuff was pretty ridiculous and over the top but I like Michael's characterization of starting off as being a reluctant leader who isn't sure what to do. Plus I thought the way they explained how Mead was a robot was interesting and Jeff and Mutt were hilarious like a smarter yet drugged up version of Harry and Lloyd. I feel like the horror this season has taken a backseat though I do think its writing is better this time around.

It definitely is a no fucks given kind of season. They're just hocking together every misconception about satanism they can and even to someone unfamiliar it is pretty cringey so I'm told. To someone who understands a good bit about the various forms of satanism it just seems lazy. I think I felt the pain coming through the screen from Michael at points because it went from super serious to just stupid at times with the satanic lady. I'd have preferred if he got annoyed with the church and just killed all of them for being poorly written and annoying.

Only 2 episodes to go and I'm wondering how it gets wrapped up. I mean Michael already caused the apocalypse so he clearly won no matter how it gets diced. I guess next season will be based on them being in the new sanctuary or something. I hope it has an ending where all the bad guys win and doesn't just do some stupid thing where the witches kill Michael.

Theistic satanists all believe in Jesus and that shit at least they are "suppose to" but for one, theistic satanism isn't taken seriously by anyone and there are very few actual examples of it. The other sects of satanism are just edgy Atheists wanting to justify their lack of morality or have daddy issues about Jesus and their Christian upbringing.
