Thor: Love & Thunder
Natalie Portman as Jane Foster as female THOR? I like it! *smashs coffee cup*

Top Gun: Maverick
Is that an F-14 in the last second of the trailer?!?

Presumably.

Everyone is calling out everyone else cause girlThor = bad, but it's really about that story line not being executed as well as it should've been.

Top Gun: are they flying F-18 jet? He should have got to the top of the class by now and be engaging in war scenarios in jets like the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor.
Did he return to get old gay teachers pussy?

Yeah it feels like they're on the wrong foot getting it started, Natalie Portman and her character and plot were awful in the first two Thor movies, and in the 3rd one they just unceremoniously wrote her out with one line of dialogue and the series felt better off for it.

But now she's back and more important than ever? Ham fisted.

To be fair it took 3 Thor movies for them to even figure out how to make Thor interesting so maybe now the same director can find a way to fix the generic love interest

That retroactively rewatching Thor films is just insane. Endgame made Thor: TDW interesting AND intentionally/accidentally gave Thor an actual mythological arc... a cyclical arc.
Like many mythological figures, Thor is basically cursed to always end where he started. "I'm doing pretty good with this hero stuff!" > "I AM THE BEST!" > "Oh shiiit, I fucked up big time and am depressed." > "I have reassessed my behavior for the better. > "I'm doing pretty good with this hero stuff!" > "I AM THE BEST!" > "Oh shiiit, I fucked up big time and am depressed." > "I have reassessed my behavior for the better. > "I'm doing pretty good with this hero stuff!" > "I AM THE BEST!" > "Oh shiiit, I fucked up big time and am depressed." > "I have reassessed my behavior for the better. > "I'm doing pretty good with this hero stuff!" > "I AM THE BEST!" > "Oh shiiit, I fucked up big time and am depressed." > "I have reassessed my behavior for the better. > etc. etc. etc.

That's not how mythology works. There are comparatively very, very few stories in mythology that are cyclical like what Marvel puts out, and what Marvel puts out is cyclical only because Disney is completely creatively bankrupts. Stop sucking on the anus of a corporation that cynically puts out hackneyed shit year after year, you fucking basement dwelling, comic book reading nerd. nb

That IS how mythology works. I should know, because I certainly read more myths and sagas than comics.

I like the one where Thor becomes a transvestite and marries a giant.
The idea that he's "cursed" to always end where he started is nonsense though. Yes, things typically go back to "normal" because if they didn't then it'd be harder to tell other stories that start at normal but normal's where he wants to be. The reason he dressed up as a woman was to get back his hammer when it was stolen, that's the bad thing that he wants to undo.

Maybe I was high and imagined this, but I think I saw the filmakers saying that they deviated from the source material there to make it filmable. Instead of a brand new color, they are going with a trippy color that sort of shifts between different psychedelic hues. I read between the lines and assumed they're trying to rip off the Annihilation visual style.

I assume that's what they're doing but even so it's nonsense to make a film about a story whose pivotal hook is that it's about something entirely outside the normal visual spectrum.

Maybe I've thought about this way too much, being a Lovecraft nerd, but the idea of a "new" colour is kind of stupid, and I don't think Lovecraft really thought much about the implications of a "new" colour.

I really don't mind The Colour being less like a colour and more like an alien... something. As long as it's steeped in cosmic horror, it's all good.

A shame it won't be a period piece. :(

I'm not sure is Lovecraft based his idea on science but it's a fact that humans have a limited perception of what colours we can see and distinguish.

But regardless, it's more about the idea. Turning something as simple and familiar as a colour into something utterly alien and incomprehensible

I doubt Lovecraft knew enough about the light spectrum to know it's impossible, or maybe he did and that's the point.
Still, it's better than the Bierce story he got the idea from; The Damned Thing. It's about a predatory animal or something that's a colour on the non-visible spectrum, rendering it invisible.
