Thor: Love & Thunder
Natalie Portman as Jane Foster as female THOR? I like it! *smashs coffee cup*

Top Gun: Maverick
Is that an F-14 in the last second of the trailer?!?

Yeah it feels like they're on the wrong foot getting it started, Natalie Portman and her character and plot were awful in the first two Thor movies, and in the 3rd one they just unceremoniously wrote her out with one line of dialogue and the series felt better off for it.

But now she's back and more important than ever? Ham fisted.

That retroactively rewatching Thor films is just insane. Endgame made Thor: TDW interesting AND intentionally/accidentally gave Thor an actual mythological arc... a cyclical arc.
Like many mythological figures, Thor is basically cursed to always end where he started. "I'm doing pretty good with this hero stuff!" > "I AM THE BEST!" > "Oh shiiit, I fucked up big time and am depressed." > "I have reassessed my behavior for the better. > "I'm doing pretty good with this hero stuff!" > "I AM THE BEST!" > "Oh shiiit, I fucked up big time and am depressed." > "I have reassessed my behavior for the better. > "I'm doing pretty good with this hero stuff!" > "I AM THE BEST!" > "Oh shiiit, I fucked up big time and am depressed." > "I have reassessed my behavior for the better. > "I'm doing pretty good with this hero stuff!" > "I AM THE BEST!" > "Oh shiiit, I fucked up big time and am depressed." > "I have reassessed my behavior for the better. > etc. etc. etc.

That's not how mythology works. There are comparatively very, very few stories in mythology that are cyclical like what Marvel puts out, and what Marvel puts out is cyclical only because Disney is completely creatively bankrupts. Stop sucking on the anus of a corporation that cynically puts out hackneyed shit year after year, you fucking basement dwelling, comic book reading nerd. nb

I like the one where Thor becomes a transvestite and marries a giant.
The idea that he's "cursed" to always end where he started is nonsense though. Yes, things typically go back to "normal" because if they didn't then it'd be harder to tell other stories that start at normal but normal's where he wants to be. The reason he dressed up as a woman was to get back his hammer when it was stolen, that's the bad thing that he wants to undo.

Maybe I was high and imagined this, but I think I saw the filmakers saying that they deviated from the source material there to make it filmable. Instead of a brand new color, they are going with a trippy color that sort of shifts between different psychedelic hues. I read between the lines and assumed they're trying to rip off the Annihilation visual style.

Maybe I've thought about this way too much, being a Lovecraft nerd, but the idea of a "new" colour is kind of stupid, and I don't think Lovecraft really thought much about the implications of a "new" colour.

I really don't mind The Colour being less like a colour and more like an alien... something. As long as it's steeped in cosmic horror, it's all good.

A shame it won't be a period piece. :(

I'm not sure is Lovecraft based his idea on science but it's a fact that humans have a limited perception of what colours we can see and distinguish.

But regardless, it's more about the idea. Turning something as simple and familiar as a colour into something utterly alien and incomprehensible

I doubt Lovecraft knew enough about the light spectrum to know it's impossible, or maybe he did and that's the point.
Still, it's better than the Bierce story he got the idea from; The Damned Thing. It's about a predatory animal or something that's a colour on the non-visible spectrum, rendering it invisible.

got to see it at a film festival last Sunday, and I think it might be the best film of 2019 so far. I'm lucky I saw it, because apparently Sony is not releasing it to theaters in my country, and it's simply mind blowing on imax.

anyone else exited for the "The Witcher" show? I don't have a lot of confidence in Netflix, knowing their track record, but I might forgive them if they include a decent amount of sex and violence.

The problem are continuity issues that stem from the stubbornness of today's producers to do chronological sequels.
That said if you're a fan of the originals and haven't watched the Sarah Conner Chronicles do that. It's relatively low budget but still more in tune with the originals than any of the reboots.

>But killing John Connor and Skynet unceremoniously is fine?

Not enough of a 1:1 scenario for me to see your point. Dark Fate is doing the work of a soft-reboot that's purposefully replacing old parts with new ones to carry the franchise forward without it continuing to be hamstrung by old canon or the expectations of viewers. Other differences (the nature of the characters, how/why they're disposed of, how they're replaced/who replaces them, etc.) along with the fact that the movie isn't out yet so we really don't know how it's pulled-off beyond what's been described to us, give me pause to knock the decision to kill/replace the aforementioned Terminator entities.

>Cameron was a producer for Dark Fate; so he must have at least been aware of the basic plot.

He was also one of six writers. He may not be responsible for that decision and because his ex-wife has kept churning out Terminator movies without his involvement or consent for all these years and he is currently balls deep in making Avatar 2 & 3, he probably doesn't care very much about the Terminator franchise past the first 2. This is the same guy who gave Genisys his seal of approval after all.

I forget what happened to Mjolnir in the movies but the comics always get rid of it and then find ways to bring it back. Also Lady Thor carried Mjolnir in the comics, and the dude who plays Guy Thor is supposed to still be the star of this new movie alongside Natalie Portman, so I'm assuming all this stuff will be explained/addressed instead of just writing out the old Thor for a random new person who just calls themselves Thor
