Yeah it's pretty great.

If you haven't already, watch Apocalypse Now for an interesting compare/contrast.

what version did you see? I was planning to see it this week, but I'm not sure whether I should see the German or English version. Normally I'd just see the original version, but apparently both versions of Aguirre are at least partly dubbed.

and I think "The Master" is the only movie I saw more than once this year. I always love the performances by PSH, but I actually never even heard of Joaquin Phoenix before. Seeing his name at attached to that joker movie got me really hyped this week.

I remember watching this in a cinema class when I was a freshman, was pretty cool. Werner Herzog is a madman.

I went out alone late at night in 2012 to see this film in theaters, alone, in a mostly empty theater. It remains one of my most cherished cinematic experiences since childhood.

As is Klaus Kinski.

If you guys want to see another team up between the two, you should check out Fitzcarraldo.

Empire Strikes Back benefits from A New Hope laying the groundwork for story, character arcs and worldbuilding. As a stand-alone movie it shits the bed tremendously. Imagine watching it as the first star wars movie and trying to understand the motivation of the characters when they're on Hoth. It doesn't even have cinematography as good as the first part. Honestly Star Wars is massively over-rated and should have ended after A New Hope. I'm not even /1701/ but I started to like the first three Star Trek movies more and that's not even taking Jedi into account.

Here is a sequel to a movie that does it better: Back to the Future 2. You don't have to know the story because you see it unfolding parallel to the other story and it's not forced as a crutch for newcomers but improves the story. Genius.

Probably the real highlight for me was Eighth Grade. Really empathetic experience, funny, sad. Intense soundtrack and colours.

Also loved Kore-eda's Shoplifters. I'm a soppy sucker for the mono no aware.

I went to see The Lighthouse in the theater. It wasn't bad but you could cut out a lot of the movie between 3/4th mark and before the end. That part felt like filler.

I felt like it just was wallowing a little in the degeneration of the two. I was fine with it in the theater, but I’m rewatching it you’re right, the pacing gets a little off in the last quarter.

Haven't made it around to watching Parasite yet but I've got it downloaded so in the next day or two here.

For me Id have to go with The Irishman. Pacino's Hoffa was amazing and the satisfaction of seeing Dr Niro and Pesci playing wise guys together in a Scorsese film no less. The movie is deeply cliche but in a good way.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was pretty good too.

Definitely Midsommar.

Don't go in expecting horror. Just watch it simply from the premise of the film. I don't even like horror, I left the film feeling extremely unnerved. The entire film gaslights the viewer into a false sense of security. You truly want to believe the cult is doing it for the betterment of society, only for the cold brutal reality come thundering down in the final half [&]much like the hammer on that old dudes face [/&]

To sum it up in a quote? Reminded of one from Steven Weinberg,

"Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things.

...But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."

Go watch it. 10/10
