The Wire was great. I really enjoyed that show. I saw it pointed out that it doesn't cover all types of government and that caught me off guard. Certain things aren't spoken of. I wonder if there'll be a show that details everything. I guess non-fiction would be the way to go with that. Not too challenging to resolve that concept. lol I blasted through the show. Talk about something being in an area continuously. That show was playing episode after episode where I was living at, I just watched it all in a week maybe. I forgot what the outdoors was like. There was a period of time of getting acquainted with the outdoors. That was work. lol

started rewatching this after finding a book about the show in a charity shop.

One thing I don't understand is that in the first couple of episode, Avon tells D'Angelo to play it cool and not be a idiot after they get him off the murder charge, but then later after Johnny Weeks gets caught by the gang and they almost kill him with a beatdown, Avon is pissed off at Dee because they didn't outright kill him. Seemed like he was sending mixed messages.

Also Poot got screwed out of a bonus after him and Wallace called Dee when they saw Brandon playing pinball.

It's a really rich show and there's so many cool setpieces to revel in: Lester getting Avon's face from the boxing poster; The chess scene; Waylon's speech for the drug addicts;
I haven't got to it yet, but i'm really looking forward to the Omar in court scene.

In fact I think I've figured it out guys, one of you fucks spoiled a part of The Wire for C-higgy and now he doesn't feel compelled to watch it because of it. It's also why he's anal about spoiler tags, because someone spoiled one of the greatest shows on tv and it's ruined for him.

Just finished season 3.
Holy fuck the show is good. I went onto it straight after the Sopranos.

In a lot of ways I think it's WAY better than The Sopranos, but it is missing having the main man and a bit of heart. Don't get me wrong, I can't think of anything worse than getting more scenes with McNulty and his wife or like Keema and her wife or whatever, but...IDK...As a crime show it's BRILLIANT, but it's missing a bit of heart. The stuff with the gangsters is always pretty great. When Stringer got shot was the first time in a while I'd audibly went OH MY GOD at the TV

Can't wait to get onto season 4 now, I only found out recently there was a 5th season (it's not in my torrent file) so I've got even MORE to look forward to.

Staying the fuck away from this thread until I'm done with the show though.

I'm actually pretty glad I waited 20 years to watch this show. Now it plays like a period drama of the early 2000s, all the stuff about pagers and references to the war on terror.
I guess the elephant in the room is - when does this show get bad? Every show gets bad. When does this one get bad? I'm still on season 1 so I need to know how long I have to find something else

I've always though it was highly overrated. It was lucky to have some incredible actors who went on to become famous. They held the show together because they created good characters. This is all completely independent of the show itself or the plot.

There is nothing profound about the show itself. Perhaps in the time it came out it was a bit edgy to criticize the police or sympathize with criminals and vice versa. At the end of the day it was a pretty basic cop show. I don't remember much of the plot but I do remember the face of every criminal in that show.

Idk man, good actors can't make good characters by themselves, you need them to be well-written as well. The amount of times I've seen good actors in absolute shit and been like "naahhhh why did you say yes to this script". Also I dunno how you can say the characters in the show are independent of the show.
