This thread is another collection of good movies to watch any day of the year! I will post one film...every now and again.

Movie of the Day:
>The Descent (2005)
A British action adventure horror film written and directed by Neil Marshall. Five women embark on a spelunking expedition in an effort to support their grieving friend, a widow who lost her child and her husband in an accident one year prior to the main events of the film. It pits the women against nature, one another, and a predatory other. Dangerous circumstances and sexual rivalry conspire to strip all sophistication from the group; civilization erodes and the protagonists are left alone with only their baser instincts, glow sticks, and a damp cave full of monsters. It premiered at the 2005 Dead By Dawn film festival.

This movie was pretty cool. Shame the butchered the ending for American audiences. Never bothered seeing the sequel, though, since this movie (and its original ending) are pretty definite.

Idk maybe catch deer and pigs and shit, I mean they're pretty sneaky. And also IIRC at the end they have that sneaky hole to easily get outside the cave. Maybe that was the American ending where she escapes? I can't remember

Movie of the Day:
>Call Me By Your Name (2017)
A coming-of-age romantic drama film directed by Luca Guadagnino, based on the 2007 novel by André Aciman, and adapted for the screen by James Ivory. It was a French-Italian-American-Brazilian international co-production. American singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens contributed three songs to the film's original soundtrack. The movie stars Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet as 24-year-old Oliver and seventeen-year-old Elio respectively, two young intellectuals engaged with different pursuits in rural northern Italy. Oliver is a graduate student from the United States who is studying under Elio's father, a professor of archaeology. Elio is an introverted amateur pianist who spends most of his free time either playing or reading. Elio is initially repulsed by Oliver's rakish attitude, but as the pair spend more and more time cavorting together in the idyllic Italian countryside, they eventually become lovers.

PS if you are, some tips about the venerated culture here - usually this stuff goes into the "BWW" thread. There used to be a "BWW- Cinema Thread" a few years ago, it was great and more geared towards serious movie talk without being flooded out with adult men who watch and have a desire to post about chidlren's cartoons. Maybe worth a shot at resurrecting that.

shoutout to chiggy for weathering that storm when people FLIPPED THEIR SHIT about 2 separate BWWs. Remember that?

Movie of the Day:
>Cube (1997)
A Canadian science fiction horror film directed by Vincenzo Natali. The movie was co-written by Natali, André Bijelic, and Graeme Manson. It premiered at the 1997 Toronto International Film Festival. Over the course of the film, five strangers find themselves mysteriously abducted and forced to attempt escape from a Kafkaesque labyrinth, a prison consisting of thousands of symmetrical square rooms, many of which are rigged with deadly booby traps. In spite of its low budget, the movie was a box office success, and it is now considered a cult classic.

Here's a quote from the movie, it's obviously a lot better within the context of watching the movie and I think there's a bit more to it.

Holloway: It's all the same machine, right? The Pentagon, multinational corporations, the police. If you do one little job, you build a widget in Saskatoon, and the next thing you know, it's two miles under the desert, the essential component of a death machine. I was right! All along, my whole life, I knew it! I told you, Quentin. Nobody's ever going to call me paranoid again! We've gotta get out of here and blow the lid off this thing!

Worth: Holloway, you don't get it.

Holloway: Then help me, please. I need to know!

Worth: This may be hard for you to understand, but there is no conspiracy. Nobody is in charge. It, it's a headless blunder operating under the illusion of a master plan. Can you grasp that? Big Brother is not watching you.

Quentin: Why put people in it?

Worth: Because it's here. You have to use it, or you admit it's pointless.

Quentin: But it, it *is* pointless.

Worth: Quentin... that's my point.

Movie of the Day:
>The Wicker Man (1973)
A British horror film directed by Robin Hardy, starring Edward Woodward, Britt Ekland, Diane Cilento, Ingrid Pitt, and Christopher Lee. Its screenplay, written by Anthony Schaffer, was adapted from the 1967 novel Ritual by David Pinner. Paul Giovanni composed, arranged, and recorded the soundtrack. The film follows a devout Christian police sergeant dispatched to a remote Scottish isle in response to an anonymous report of a missing child. The officer's investigations ultimately prove futile, and his prudish ideals flounder against the island's libertine Celtic polytheism. The mainland Protestant bureaucracy that he holds so dear is overshadowed by a communal conspiracy to perform a fatal pagan ceremony at the expense of a virgin fool with the power of a king.
