The fact that they have cartoons from the '80s, '90s, '00s, and '10s that include the entire history of the Disney Afternoon programming block as well as the catalog of shows from Toon Disney and Disney XD. This means that I'm going to be spiraling into a pit of nostalgia. I wish I had this service when I was a kid.

I have little to no interest in Disney+, but I'm waiting for them to start selling that "Netflix-killer" bundle with this, Hulu, and ESPN+ for only twelve bucks. I already watch stuff on Hulu more than anything else, and apparently Disney is going to put every R-rated movie they have on there instead of Disney+ since Disney+ is just going to be kiddie shit.

Anti cartel laws don't have to be restricted to only affect public utilities.
At least in principle... I know that's not what currently the case in practice.

The FCC, FTC, FAA and congress have all been bought by the businesses they are supposed to be policing. There will be no significant legal action against any big company unless there are major reforms first.

To start, decreasing the access capital has to politics.
Only the single candidate who isn't beholden to corporate money is going to be able to and willing to rally the public against the politicians who are.

For starters remove the industry shills and lobbyists from appointed positions in government bodies. You know, the drain the swamp shit that Trump was harping on about during his campaign, except for real this time.

Just spent two hours going through everything listed on here and filling up my watchlist. There's a metric fuckton of stuff that I'll probably never get around to watching. My biggest gripe is that they list things that aren't actually on there yet, and some things are listed as not coming until mid-2021 which is fucking wacky.

Mandalorian was cool, although I had to google why the ending was even important.

Disney+ only offering the bastardized 16:9 versions of The Simpsons is also a cardinal sin.

That's bullshit. I remember when Simpsons World on FX NOW used to offer the option to watch in 4:3 but not anymore.

Disney's a symptom of a much bigger problem. Once corporations reach a certain size they start subverting markets and the government.

There really needs to be some mechanism to prevent them from getting out of control in the first place.

The library is pathetic. I was never going to buy into this, but I was hopeful that there would be some old 80s and 90s TV shows that pirates could rip. Not so much. They've got the shitty version of Doug though, if you're into that.

Not really sure what shows you're talking about, but it does have the Fox Kids X-Men and Spider-Man cartoons (in their original 4:3 format), along with Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers, Ducktales (the original, plus the movie), Gargoyles, and Goof Troop, along with Talespin and Darkwing Duck if you were one of those weirdo kids that liked those shows.

What was wrong with Darkwing Duck?

He's just Disney's Batman.

Breaking it up still allows the new parts to exploit their monopoly of the parts they own, or behave like an oligopoly rather than compete with the other parts. See AT&T.

If Disney is nationalized and the older IPs made public domain, we can enable new art to build off them just as their works built on older works.
Putting the rest of the Disney apparatus under the control of an entity that's more accountable to society will certainly result in better outcomes for society than if it's accountable only to a handful of capitalists.

Call it what you want, how else do you expect to deal with a monopoly that has been writing laws to extend their power?

I like how Hasbro just made that socialist version to generate outrage and get people to buy their dumb game, I'm more into the anarchic version of the game which is just flipping the board over when you get upset.

I got it now for one year free and it’s a pretty vast library movie and show wise though there are a few they don’t got like The Jersey for example, I read the Monday Night Football Club as a kid so it sucks they don’t have it. At least they got Even Stevens, the classic Disney Channel Original Movies I grew up with like Brink!, Johnny Tsunami, Stepsister from Planet Weird, etc. Really outside of those, the Disney and Pixar animated films, and the Star Wars and MCU, the price point for what they offer and that deal with ESPN+ and Hulu makes this seem like a bargain.

yeah but it has a feeling of artifice to it. there's a collective experience to seeing it on some stream or TV station, that makes the nostalgia even more potent

I can't afford a laptop but I have roku and can just stream any video I want from websites like putlocker or whatever by using this fairly new app on roku called "Web Video Caster".

Roku has been the best decision for me. You also don't have to deal with having your laptop and cables everywhere every time. You can just pick up the remote. Turn the TV on and go. I have Netflix, Youtube, FITE, some third party free public domain movie apps and then my roommate got Disney+ for his mom so we just use that.

The "Web Video Caster" app is by far the best one I've got though. It scans webpages for m3u8s and streams them so you can effectively stream any video I want to the tv. Including webms n shit.
