not campy and fun like Dagon, not that and interesting like In the Mouth of Madness, just some generic uninspired attempt to do Annihilation with all the stuff that made it fresh taken out.

I hear it's supposed to set up a new Lovecraftian movie universe but it did a shit job of that too.

So who's bright idea was it to make a film adaptation of the story who's entire hook is that its physically impossible to imagine or comprehend what you're seeing?

I guess they just decided to make it pink and purple instead.

it might have been okay without his "acting" but also pointless

I liked it. Nic Cage does ok for a man that needs to pay his bills. Way better than Bruce Willis.

I'd rather just have competent horror directors making cosmic horror films featuring Lovecraftian elements over these whack attempts at turning actual Lovecraft stories (which all have cool concepts but dated executions) into "modern" pieces.

This.

If people would make a Lovecraft "cinematic universe", it'd better be done in a retro style set in period times like The Lighthouse.

I think modern setting would be more affordable being able to use settings as is rather than having to budget effects artists to give it an authentic old timey feel. I think a NYC sewer filth god movie would be cool. Vivid organic decay.

I loved it, great to see based Richard Stanley make a good comeback after being blacklisted for years for exposing (((them))).
It's a simple movie based on a simple story that was copied a shitload of times, and the old school indie film vibes work perfectly. Can't wait until he releases Dunwitch Horror

Cray, I had no idea. Seems he's going to try furry island again. I did not like that movie because it was kind of shit in the second half, and anthropomorphic animal people is always more a erotic fetish rather than a eerie scare device. Unless there's a break out of failed experiments I don't think the island of dr moreau will ever be scary.

How did this man anger the (((chosen people))) so much?

He didn't last a day in the set of that furry island shit, they fired him and made a completely different movie (they kept some of his script) and his name was attached to that crapfest. Check out Lost Soul, the documentary about how fucked up that production was, they don't name (((them))) but basically the expected happened when (((Miramax))) and Val Kilmer goe to a remote location with young girls and he wasn't having it so he got blacklisted.
In recent interviews he talks more freely about it, like when he prevented Fairuza Bank to go to the (((producers))) trailer and stuff like that. You should check them out, he's an absolute based madman
