So I'm currently watching Star Trek The Next Generation, and it's made me want to dive into shows from a similar time frame. So far my list is:

Star Trek DS9 and Voyager
Stargate
Farscape
Battlestar Galactica

I'm curious, are there any other shows which give off a similar vibe to these shows that I should add to the watch list?

Second. It's frequently campy and bad, and occasionally great, which is about as faithful to Star Trek TOS as you can get.

Also check out Firefly, Babylon 5, and Dr. Who. Also Cowboy Bebop, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and Space Dandy if you don't mind anime.

LEXX is probably the best Sci fi show you've never heard of. It's very campy, but it's also very well written and the first season has a great overarching plot line. The first episode is going to be very "wtf is going on" but stick with it and it's rewarding.

Recommended if you like the Fifth Element or Jodorosky's comic books.

Don't be dissin' my man Kai, Last of the Brunnen-G.

I could never really get into Lexx after they replaced the actress who plays Zev/Xev, but it's like the Canadian Farscape if that makes any sense.

This.

Shame it was cancelled but they were able to wrap it up quite well with the season 1.5 stuff as a self-contained story. The cancellation only really hurt if you were watching live.

>Man, that suffers pretty heavily of the usual "space is a 2D plane" trope

it's funny when the admiral lays out the plan for the defense of the hyper gate
the mouth of the gate connecting hyper space to regular space is a sphere forming a narrow choke point
squadrons of ships form several layers around the sphere with different ship types
at different distance
yet, the screen displays several rings of squadron units around a choke point

What's even funnier is that the antagonists in Banner of the Stars are an off-shoot of humanity that have several modifications to their biology, chief of them an extra sensory organ that allegedly makes them really, REALLY good at navigating starships in a 3D space, and ytet for the most part they all treat space as it was a gigantic ocean.

I think my favorite moment of "2D space" is from Empire Strikes Back. Early in the movie Han, Leia and the rest of the crew are aboard the Falcon, and being chased by two ISDs. Suddendly another ISD approaches directly in front, and it is treated as such a huge deal, like there is no other way for the ship to go.... until the very last moment when Han does remember they are in fucking space and that they can steer wherever the hell they want. The best part is that none of the ISD captains do realize that, and their ships almost collied with each other.

If you saw it recently, you probably saw the 1.5 stuff. Streaming and torrents haven't labeled it as 1.5 for nearly a decade.
