The wall parts are good then it's blue collar comedy whenever it's not the wall. So you watch the gay aliens to get the political human antfarm anthology. The gay alien stuff is kind of funny tho when it's not being really gay.

G vs Z.

This franchise is still hot garbage aside from Skull Island, but this is probably the second least terrible film in the bunch. Completely incoherent set-up and god awful dialog to get to the Kaiju punchy parts, but the fight scenes were excellent.

Eh, I found KotM and GvK to be on the same level, everything involving the humas is shit and all that matters is the giant monster action.

And about that part, plenty of people claim that the monster fights in GvK are the best in the series, and I am not sure I agree with that. Yes, the fights are filmed very clearly and you can see everything going on, but on the other hand I found it jarring how the monsters moves so quickly in this compared to the approach in the previous entries in the series.

Just listened to Eric Andre's most recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show where he breaks down the behind-the-scenes stuff of how prank movies/shows get made, all the stories he tells are priceless. The stories about making the movie Bad Trip are funnier than the actual movie was, and you also learn tons of cool facts about what goes on when they make the show and the levels they go to fuck with people.

>>418910 is correct. Even while high, it's annoying they call out the 'phrasing' jokes out loud. Like a new era laugh track, you need to be cross faded to not be annoyed by it. The space arch was a nice change of setting though without any of that forced baby drama, it's kind of lame a spy comedy became a attack on the father figure.

The writing’s pretty good, but yeah the over reliance on catchphrases and callbacks compounds characters who become increasingly flanderized as the show goes on. In the show’s defense it found a successful comedic formula and stuck with it, even through the dream seasons. To its detraction that humor’s kind of dated now,

Completely different genre but this series is the opposite of dated, and holds up incredibly well despite receiving like 1/10th of the ovation and continuing popularity of Band of Brothers. Sledge and Snafu are fantastic

As someone who generally likes LVT as a director, i had been disappointed with him as of late so i was expecting this based on the reviews to be all edge and no point. Couldn't have been further from the truth. This is certainly the best "serial killer" film ever made, and one of more cerebral true horror films of the last 5 years. Matt Dillon is incredibly convincing in his performance and the violence is very realistic and stripped of it's glorification. There's a lot of allegories for the current state of the world in the acts of the murderer as well. Overall i give it a 8/10

Mortal Kombat was entertaining. I'm not a MK lore fag but it felt like a effort was made and they added more depth to some of the characters than they had in the original first movie. It's 1h45m of movie which honestly these days seems limited. As a he-man woman haters club member, Sonya Blade's character was well done. No cleavage, but a character keeping up on pure will power and effort was kinda legit. Mileena was hot, mixed black/asian I think, beautifully shaped eyes.

last ilm i watch was The Last Seduction (1994) bc the movie came up in an interesting twitter thread where people asked for the female version of patrick bateman. honestly it was boring and all the characters (and actors themselves) hateable except Pullman. wish i hadnt watched it

also on that list was Single White Female, which was shockingly excellent. later found out it was directed by swiss german guy who i also recently saw in Celine and Julie go Boating, a french movie from the 70s, which was also actually a pretty good watch

Watching Mythic Quest season 1 before next week’s season 2 premiere. I’ve been meaning to find a show to fill that Silicon Valley void and it’s got Mac, Abed, and Ashly Burch, who I met at MAGFest several years ago back when she was doing Hey Ash Whatcha Playin?

Finished Mythic Quest season 1. The show reminded me of Community, though that’s more so the influence of co-creator and former Community writer Megan Ganz, and Blunt Talk since the cast has all these contrasting personalities that for whatever reason they’re able to function collectively though replace news talk show for video game company. I’m not expecting a show that’s going to be a critique and satire of the video game industry as Silicon Valley was for the tech industry as much as it’s just a workplace comedy set at a video game company. Jo and CW are pretty funny though David and Brad have their moments as do Ian and Poppy, whose working relationship forms the basis of the show’s storylines.

Episode 5 I was really impressed by not just because it was a standalone episode unrelated to the show itself though it turns out Doc and Bean’s game was published by the same studio in Montreal as Mythic Quest and they’re located in the same office building that Doc and Bean’s old studio used to be but because of its overall theme of a game becoming AAA popular and having to change the game’s gameplay mechanics and tone to appeal to a wider audience vs. keeping true to your original vision and not changing anything but staying at the indie level and not becoming successful. Gonna watch the two specials now.

I love Jack and Josh. Making sure that all 5 got their time on the panel really made the episode great. If they had left any of the “core” out of the discussion panel I would have been let down, so the tag-outs were great.

Also the Breen film absofuckinglutely delivered on my expectations and then some. I’m so glad their 100th was a total home run and that they didn’t run into anything that was just plain boring or miserable.

The Adventures of TinTin from 2011.

Why is nobody talking about the beauty and stunning visuals of this animated movie?
The movie feels like a really great mix of adventure and crime!
What happened to this franchise?

It was alright, felt more like an animated Indiana jones movie than a Tintin movie to meh though.
I'm guessing it probably didn't do as well in North America as the studio would have liked, seeing how it is a distinctly European(but mainly french/belgian) franchise and all. I could be wrong though, as I was surprised to learn that Tintin had a cult following in New Zealand

Yeah I liked this movie and thought the casting was pretty good, but coming out of the theater my main thought was how generic it was. Spielberg and Jackson didn't disrespect the source material or characters, but neither did they really capture the feeling of the comics. Abridging the story arcs into one movie was the right call though, and I hope they follow that format for future movies. After searching online the only thing I can find was Jackson saying he really wanted to make a sequel in 2018, but nothing had happened. Imo he should have been making more Tintin movies than wasting his time on the Hobbit trilogy

Watched the two Mythic Quest specials. Quarantine was similar to A Parks and Recreation Special of its episode being played out in a video conferencing format but I felt like Quarantine was really creative with in its use of the format especially the ending with everyone pulling off that Rube Goldberg device. Also Brad trolling David in making him shave his eyebrows and mustache and still donating the money to charity was hilarious.

Everlight felt like something from Community Anthony Hopkins narrating notwithstanding but it was such a great episode that has me hyped for season 2. Jo taking the Everlight competition super seriously was one of the special’s highlights as was the scene with Poppy and Ian fighting Brad.

tbh, too much "training" and wastes too much time on irrelevant worldbuilding.

And the final fight takes place in an empty warehouse.

How can you even make a movie about a bloody and gory tournament with aliens and demons so boring? It doesn't even show the tournament!

>Mythic Quest S02E01 & 2 - Titans' Rift & Grouchy Goat

Having just watched the first season and specials, these first two episodes were really funny and good quality character humor and storytelling for what's to come this season. The whole sex dreams about Ian stuff was hilarious and Jo becoming Brad's assistant is such a gold mine for comedic gold. I also did like Poppy's speech as cringe as it was at first but it was pretty poignant of what it means to be a woman in a man's world.

>Narcos: Mexico S02E06-10

Finished the second half of Narcos: Mexico season 2. Much like the first two seasons of Narcos, which showed the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar, Narcos: Mexico's first two seasons showed the rise and fall of Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo. I thought the show did a good job of tying the different narratives of the different plazas in Tijuana, Sinaloa, and Juarez together along with Miguel and Walt's respective narratives being on opposite sides of the law and that ending with Miguel and Walt's prison conversation was basically a foreshadowing of the Mexican Drug War. It was pretty fucked up to see Hector Palma's family being killed and tossed over the bridge by Clavel though Hector getting his comeuppance in the form of channeling Negan and using a baseball bat on Clavel's head was sick. Looking forward to season 3.

>Mythic Quest S02E03 - #YumYum

This was a really good episode. I feel like Mythic Quest has a good thing going with Poppy and Ian's working relationship dynamic and it was funny when David was getting triggered by the similarities between his parents' separation and divorce with Poppy and Ian splitting their teams and separately working on the expansion. Rachel and Dana getting involved in Poppy and Ian's dispute gave them at least something to do this episode though I don't know how much it added other than the two comedic moments of Ian trying to get Rachel to disagree with him and Dana trying to massage Poppy's legs. I also did like Brad trying to reinvent David's social media profiles and getting him to do that dating sim. Same with Jo trying to convince CW's boss to give him an extension on his novel.

Mythic Quest is slowly but surely becoming one of TV's best workplace comedies.

Bob had a smarmy better than you attitude, Alfonso has a relatable tone and only pokes mildly when he's joking. AFHV was kind of forgettable when it was the guy inbetween.

Ok, so let me preface this by saying i'm a huge sucker for the genre of Stoner-Mystery-Noir films and shows set in Los Angeles (The Big Lebowski, Inherent Vice, Lodge 49) so when i first heard about this movie i figured it would be my kind of movie. And in certain ways it was, but after watching it the polarizing reviews and general response makes sense.

So one thing i actually really liked right off the bat about the film was its setting. Now i know a lot of us oldfags can remember the peak of the "Hipster" movement (or whatever the fuck you would call it) of the late 00s early 10s so the fact that the backdrop of the whole mystery is that pre-Gamergate era of naïve optimism actually made me kind of nostalgic for my early college years. The main protagonist is a little too on the nose, but believable, late 20s driftless artist burnout (sound familiar?) who somehow scrapes together enough money to rent an apartment in, as you probably guessed, Silver Lake. He ends up really being the deepest written character unfortunately and even then has some cringey acting moments, but actually does a surprisingly convincing job for a rookie actor.

I won't go too much into the plot as not to spoil it because i do think its worth watching but over all it starts to fall apart in the middle and by the end drags on. It does have some unique moments, animations, and even some pretty hilarious scenes/dialogue. But it suffers from trying too hard to be an combination of all those "Aimless bohemian who drinks/smokes weed has random encounter with weird L.A. person/people then gets tangled up in a web of conspiracy involving the highest and lowest members of the Southern Californian social castes" movies. Still there's enough of a unique vision within that and an interesting story that made it fairly enjoyable. I'd probably rate it a 6/10

i should just make a Letterboxd

>Mythic Quest S02E04 - Breaking Brad

I couldn't stop laughing at this episode. The stuff with Brad being paranoid about why his brother is at the office and Ian and Rachel's car ride was hilarious. I did also get a kick out of the whole political correctness stuff with saying chauffeur and Poppy thinking it's okay since her and Dana are both POC. I also did find David's friendship with Zack to be cute though ultimately, Zack is manipulative and it was interesting to see him make Jo that offer at the end of the episode.

Just got caught up on Primal. I really like the show's art design and Tyler Bates' soundtrack but the way Genndy Tartakovsky structures the show as character study between two different species of Spear and Fang bonded together by similar tragedies they endured all while having to work together to survive an onslaught of different species? With hardly any dialogue and lots of violence and action, it's definitely based. One episode in particular was episode 5 when they're captured by Ape-like people and Fang had to fight that giant gorilla and then Spear drank that serum and beat the fuck out of that gorilla and all those apes was so crazy but it was awesome. I guess season 2 will see Spear and Fang to try and rescue Mira from the people that enslaved her and her family.

I saw the first episode and I liked it. Will Forte was great as his dad, but they didn't really touch on the religious stuff, though I"m sure that will come later. The kid did okay, but he's playing the role of the kid, so he should anyway. Big Man I was a bit hesitant about, because imo he's really the star of the series in the comic, but from what I've seen in the first episode, he's good. I'll have to see how he goes in a bit more of the heavier sections.

I was surprised Sweet Tooth hasn't been adapted already, it has very "modern" themes with all the environmentalism, animal testing and racism involved in the main plot. I remember first reading it and thinking "this is something that could translate to a series without being compromised", unlike Ennis stuff like Preacher or what I'm assuming Sandman will be. I really enjoyed the comic, especially the pacing of it, as it felt like it told the story and never dragged on. I'll probably feel a bit sick when Gus gets kidnapped because that whole section made my angry while I was reading it.

Also if anyone has finished the series, do they tell the whole story in it, or is it only like halfway?

>Mythic Quest S02E06 - Backstory!

I didn't think anything would top last season's A Dark Quiet Death but an episode about a young CW was really compelling just seeing how he started out as a science fiction writer and eventually the writer for Mythic Quest and I thought Josh Brener did a fantastic job portraying him. That should be worthy of a guest actor Emmy nomination. What I liked was how he didn't give up, even if he's a bit eccentric and egotistical for his own good and regardless of what Anne and Isaac Asimov would tell him about his writing, he got his Nebula Award and recognition though I think it's obvious that was the high point of his career before Ian found him and hired him. The best thing that was cool was the visual of him being entranced with Pong and the shot of his eyes seeing the game. His monologue about the future of writing being in video games in the next scene was well done though.

I thought Nobody was a quick, easy and violent film to watch and Bob Odenkirk really proved himself as an action film star here. It's like an inverse of John Wick though it was probably by design since Derek Kolstad, the creator of John Wick, wrote the film. Already my favorite film so far this year.

I thought the Guy Pearce time machine version sucked compared to the original, that always kept me up as a kid, but if they could make it up with what's more likely to really happen it would good. But I could make a really good future holonovel, old novels are old..

I was a big fan of The Hunt (only other film made by this Danish director i've seen) So when i saw this won best foreign picture at last year's Oscars i decided to check it out. Now i've seen a ton of films about alcoholism (mainly cause there are a ton) but this one still managed to come up with an interesting premise. It isn't a preachy cautionary tale either, it's more like a black comedy. Of course alcohol is portrayed as almost one of the characters, weaving in and out of their lives doing good but mostly bad. I won't spoil any of it but it was a enjoyable, but still realistically dark, film about drinking culture and boozing it up in general that was worth the 3.99 on prime or w/e

8/10 would recommend

>Mythic Quest S02E07 - Peter

It's a follow-up episode from last week but I felt like both episodes, which are centered on CW's rise, fall, and redemption, really helped to humanize his character and not just as an old, alcoholic creepy out-of-touch writer and that the audience understands the struggles he went through and why he resented Peter and Anne. That last scene where they sat together and Peter read CW his 20th book manuscript was a sweet and emotional moment. I did also find CW shitting in Peter's desk to be a grossout yet totally in character thing he would have done. F. Murray Abraham and William Hurt's chemistry in this episode was excellent though.

As a music sperg and a Sparks superfan i knew right away when i saw this first announced that it was gonna be my first post-Covid movie i see in theaters. And i gotta say, even if you're like most people and have never heard of the band with the guy on piano who looks like Hitler, or are even that into Edgar Wright's movies, as long as you enjoy documentaries you will still like this. From the perspective of someone who has obsessed over this band for the last decade it is very vindicating to have such a big budget, high-quality analysis of both Ron and Russell on a personal level but also their insane history and idiosyncratic career on the fringes of the mainstream music industry. All the celebrity interviews are great (even the random ass ones like Mike Meyers) but hearing the brothers themselves finally tell their story more or less in full is enough for any fan of the band to enjoy every second of this documentary. The editing and original animations are all amazing as are the old footage from the 60s all the way to the 2000s. Basically there are no dull parts in this film, the visuals and the subject matter and the story itself is all compelling enough for anyone to get into. Although as i admitted i am biased but i could easily see this getting the Oscar for best documentary next year. Overall i give it a 9/10 seriously check it out if not in theaters then when it comes out on streaming.

>Mythic Quest S02E08 - Juice Box

I felt like it was the weakest episode of the season comedy-wise since it was for the most part given a backseat to the character and storyline development going into the upcoming season finale. I did at least like the emotional moment Poppy and Ian shared in the hospital and Brad raining on Jo's parade by telling her she committed insider trading. Also I wish CW could write my obituary.

>Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens

One of my friends, who is Indonesian, recommended this film to me since it came out a few days ago. It's a decent bilingual comedy-drama and the plot of Ali trying to find and reconcile with his mother while also helping the Ratu Ratu Queens trying to raise money for their restaurant and the comedic moments are alright. If it were an American film, it would probably be a Hallmark TV movie or something.

>Mythic Quest S02E09 - TBD

The season finale was at least better than last week's episode though some of the storyline's payoffs I did question. I've been on the fence about Rachel and Dana's relationship but I guess now they're going to be in a long distance relationship? I did find it interesting Brad decided to turn himself for the street cred but I also felt it was a way of him being a friend to Jo and I suppose her becoming David's assistant again is her way of trying to redeem herself for her past actions.

I have appreciated the scenes with Ian and Poppy this season since they form the core of the show and this episode's were good with them deciding to leave Mythic Quest and make their own game from Poppy's ideas from the Hera expansion. I also thought the scene was pretty funny when Dana had come to their office and they basically talked down to her almost the whole time but giving her a chance to become a programmer at a college on the company's dime.

Most people know Rob McElhenney for being Mac on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia but he's been really fucking good on this show. Also I saw a comment describing this show as "the spirit of Community in the world of Halt & Catch Fire" and it's not wrong. Now I gotta wait for the new season of Ted Lasso to premier next month.

>The Handmaid's Tale season 4

Well this season was a lot better than last season, which at times felt like they were spinning their wheels but this season was way more interesting since they're not entirely in Gilead. Like if you put aside the extensive liberties the show has taken with international policy and political asylum, June's flanderization, and stuff, it's still good. Despite how ridiculous it was in the end of Fred being extradited from Canada to Gilead in a prisoner exchange and brought out to No Man's Land and being killed by June and other former handmaids in an extrajudicial killing, it was actually a pretty cathartic resolution - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQU8vRnJh38

>Letterkenny seasons 6 & 7

Was pretty funny. I did like the storyline of reforming the Letterkenny Irish and seeing Coach and Tanis having to get along since they hadn’t really interacted much before. I think my favorite episodes from those seasons was Dyck’s Slip Out since the whole episode was just a bunch of cleverly made dick jokes and the Valentine’s Day special.

>The End of the F***ing World season 2

I remember I liked the first season and finally got around to watching season 2. It was interesting to introduce Bonnie as one of the Professor’s girls with her seeking revenge on Alyssa and James for murdering him not knowing that she could have ended up becoming a potential victim. James and Alyssa are such an odd couple but have appreciated their dynamic and friendship in this season especially. I don’t know if I’d say season 2 was as good as 1 but

>Sex Education S02E08

Also finally watched the season finale of Sex Education. It was hilarious especially that whole weird Romeo and Juliet adaptation put on by Lilly and also emotional too with Maeve having to call social services on her mom cause she found she was using again. Glad they’re getting another season in September at least.

>Lupin part 1

I thought I wouldn’t like it but a friend convinced me to watch but it’s really good, probably one of Netflix’s best non-english shows besides Money Heist, which is funny since both shows are about heists. I do like Assane as a character since he’s a thief but also a gentleman of many disguises like his namesake he was inspired by Arsene Lupin but also has a motivation to solve his father’s death and clear his name for stealing a necklace that he was framed for. There was a lot of great scenes on there like when Assane dressed up as a delivery person also called a bunch of delivery people to create a diversion to escape from the police. Watching part 2 now.

This was on my queue for awhile and i finally had the time/desire to give it a shot. As with most Amazon/Netflix/Hulu w/e "original series", even the supposedly best ones, it tended to get everything right besides telling a compelling and unique story and being an engaging movie experience. This movie had a lot going for it. Good premise, great period piece set, good cinematography. But between the mediocre acting and lackluster story it all just fails to come together in the end to deliver anything beyond a "meh": So even as a sci-fi and period piece fanatic this ended up being underwhelming for me. Overall i'd give it a two and a half out of five stars. It reminded me a bit of Man in The High Castle speaking of Amazon studios, in that it had to promise to be good, but just couldn't hack it by the middle.

I was skeptical. I never gave a fuck or payed any attention to him his whole career. After all the hype and my friend talking me into it i finally sat down to watch it with an open mind...Holy shit, i was not prepared. It sounds insane but i really could see this down the line being looked back on as a "Gone With The Wind" type moment for comedy specials. You just have to watch it yourself with no expectations. Some people won't like it for sure, and some just won't be impacted as much by it or understand the hysteria surrounding it. But i really didn't expect to be this moved by a fucking Netflix comedy special. I don't really have much else to say about it, "should've sent a poet" etc.

>Lupin Part 2

I was really blown away by how much the show improved and I really liked how the storyline of Assane finally getting his revenge on Pelligrini for framing his dad played out in the theater. The show does such a great job in creating misdirection of how you think something is gonna happen this way but it ends up happening in another way that you don't expect. Should be interesting to see what happens next now that it's been renewed and Assane is now on the run from the law.

>Atypical S04E01-5

Watched the first half of the final season. I don't really know what to think of the storyline of Sam wanting and trying to go to Antartica, which seems crazy and ambitious but given his obsession with the continent, I do suppose it gives the audience something to root for to show that you can achieve your dreams despite having a disability. In the first season, I felt like the show should have been centered around Casey instead of Sam, which would have made it seem like a TV version of Tru Confessions, but the show has improved since then giving the Gardner family more balanced screen time and storylines that have been hit or miss. Casey this season though coming out and her relationship with Izzie has been the highlight so far this season. And Zahid is by far the best part and its breakout star no doubt. Reminds me of a cooler version of one of my friends who's also Indian.

>Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

Finally got around to watching this since I haven't seen F9 yet. I thought it was fun and action-packed film that people have come to expect from the series. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham have such great chemistry and Idris Elba plays a good villain. Plus Roman Reigns hitting a spear and doing he OOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH thing was cool.

>Fighting With My Family

Being a wrestling fan, I knew this film would take liberties with telling Paige's story (having her start in NXT even though she had signed back when it was still FCW, excluding her run as NXT Women's Champion, using Hutch Morgan as a composite character for the coaches that trained her in developmental, etc.) to make it more of an underdog story but Florence Pugh is a talented enough actress to portray Paige with conviction and Stephen Merchant's directing was solid. It was actually Pugh's performance in this film that got her the role in Black Widow though I thought she was better in Midsommar. I'm really surprised how much critics liked it and it has a 93% on RT but then again, a lot of critics aren't wrestling fans so I understand how they could take what's basically a commercial for WWE at face value.

I still need to watch this. I've always liked Bo since he was putting videos on youtube making humorous songs like My Whole Family and Sunday School in his bedroom and that one season show Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous on MTV.

Showed up as just added on HBO, I had it on but was reading manga as well. 2 hours 20 minutes lol the 20 minute intro made me think i was high and missed the whole movie. I did miss a lot, I couldn't recall any of the characters or non verbal hints, the ending was not cut and dry. The camera work is top notch and it's based on real life occult techniques.

>Ted Lasso S02E01 - Goodbye Earl

Based Ted Lasso is back and I hope it does well at the Emmys. It was a good season premiere though mainly dealing with Dani having to overcome the yips after accidentally killing the team mascot dog on a PK, which I felt brought some depth to his character. I did like how they showed why Ted is skeptical about therapists and I can see him and his working relationship with Sharon could possibly be a positive or negative impact to AFC Richmond. The stuff with Roy was pretty funny though, he's probably one of my favorite characters on the show especially when he kept ordering drinks on the double date and then just seeing the look of disgust on his face when he sees Jamie is on a reality show.

Decided to watch this after the Incest saga began. I'm up to Part 18 where they're covering the Liquid Chris saga, which was when I first became familiar with him, but Geno Samuel has done such an incredible job with this docuseries and his narration is hilarious especially when he's reading Christine's words verbatim but his neutral POV helps to let the audience interpret and be the judge of events that have happened over the course of Christory.

>Heels S01E01 - Kayfabe

It started off slow and I appreciated all the things on the show that make the wrestling fan in me find to be funny or ridiculous like that promotion FWD using old Impact Wrestling footage for their commercial or Apocalypse saying that wins and losses don't matter, which is the type of bullshit you'd hear from WWE but holy shit by the end when Jack pulled a screwjob on Ace to make him look bad in front of Bill and make him lose his chance of going to WWE, I'm hooked and can't wait for the next episode.

Obviously the show would appeal a lot to wrestling fans like GLOW but much like Friday Night Lights, which Heels has been getting compared to, you don't really have to be a wrestling fan to understand or appreciate the characters and the behind the scenes aspects of the business.

What a lot of people forget in our hyper-politicized world is even before the #MeToo scandal both the show Louie, that god-awful movie he did right before he got canceled, and his stand up routine all were deteriorating in quality around that time. It's only more depressing the fact that he went full right-wing hack comedian after getting outed as a creep. He really was one of the best comedians from the later 00s to early 10s.

Season 4 was really good but it was completely different than the first three seasons you watched (the Late Night arc was the show's high point) along with season 5 but season 4 was basically depression porn with some comedy thrown in and some creepy moments that looks really bad in context after #MeToo happened especially the episodes with Pamela Adlon.

Speaking of Pamela Adlon, Better Things is a very underrated show.

Yeah they did film those seasons back to back but I should be caught up before season 10 premieres. And Scream Queens was a great horror comedy that was campy and over the top but a good satire especially of the slasher film genre. I think would have done better on FX instead of on Fox.

Watched episode 3 of Heels tonight. I really liked how the format of the show was basically the whole episode taking place over the time the card was going on. I really enjoyed it, but I also wonder how a series would go with only having the "viewer" only seeing the story occur backstage and in the ring while the card is being set up and going on, sorta like how Party Down would only tell its story while they were actually working.

I also really liked that ending montage they did of everyone. It really reminded me a lot of Life is Strange season 1, especially the first and second episode where they'd have the music playing and you'd get a quick glance at how each character is feeling at the end of the episode, contrasting one person who's feeling on top of the world with another who's feeling really down.

Yeah I liked the format of the episode as well mostly taking place over the course of the wrestling show. Now that you mention it, that format was similar with Party Down since everything is going on but hopefully they can go into more detail about the different aspects of the card and backstage atmosphere, which I've felt like they've done a good job in sufficiently capturing.

Having also played Life Is Strange, I can see that though that sort of thing isn't unique to that but yeah Bobby Pin is happy about his match and telling his family while Ace and Jack are both dealing with their own shit including their dad's death. I did like how the shot before the intro of Tom killing himself during the day contrasted with Jack looking down on where his dad's body was at night at the end of the episode.

Heels has been pretty good so far though I feel like this is gonna be a one season show.

>Ted Lasso S02E02-6

Got caught up on the current season of Ted Lasso. So far I've been enjoying it a lot especially the scenes with Roy, that dude is my favorite character. The show has a lot of heart and it's no wonder it's been nominated a lot and it deserves them though the thing with the show is when the show would really start the peel the layers back on Ted's personality deep down and this last episode with him walking off the field and ending up in Dr. Sharon's office, I think we'll finally start to see who he really is below the sunny disposition he shows on the outside. I did also appreciate them touching upon players making political stands on the field as Sam and the rest of the team did against their jersey sponsor Dubai Air and Ted and Rebecca supporting them but at the same time it felt like shallow pandering and a cheap analogy to the BLM protests going on in sports like kneeling during the national anthem.

>Only Murders in the Building S01E01-3

My friend got me into this since it just came out today and so far it's interesting to see how the storyline unravels within the context of a true crime podcast. The basic gist of the show is about three strangers who live in the same NYC apartment building that after running into each other, find out that they share an obsession with a true crime podcast and then find themselves involved in trying to solve a crime in their building. It's good that Hulu premieres the first three episodes of a season to give viewers a chance to see where it goes since one episode isn't enough for people to decide whether or not they want to continue watching.

>Money Heist P5E1-5

Volume 1 of part 5 came out on Friday and I binged it today. It was pretty intense as it usually is THOUGH with the gang having to deal with Arturo losing his mind and getting shot for trying to take control of the situation and the special forces engaging with the gang with The Professor losing control of the situation thanks to Alicia, the stakes were even higher. It sucks Tokyo died though but I felt like given her flashbacks with Rene and how she met the Professor and Rio, it was kind of an inevitability. At least she was able to give one final fuck you to Gandia and kill him and the other special forces with that grenade belt. I also really did like seeing the flashbacks of Berlin getting his son involved with that heist at Frederiksborg Castle. Gotta wait 3 months for volume 2 but I'm hyped to see how the show ends and whether they die or escape with that melted down gold.

>Ted Lasso S02E07 - Headspace

I figured that they would show Keeley and Roy having difficulties in their relationship at some point but I thought how they came to the conclusion was hilarious with Jamie telling Roy about putting space between himself and his teammate on the field making Roy realize that Keeley wanted him to give her space. I do also hope that Ted can open up to Dr. Sharon since I feel like he's repressing a lot of emotions from his divorce. What surprised me the most this episode was seeing Nate's heel turn acting like an asshole to Colin saying that he was a painting at the Holiday Inn and then to Will rejecting the jersey he got as a gift. The dude is just insecure with an inferiority complex based on how his dad treats him and how he used to be bullied by the other players but he's in a position of power now so now it's made him into such an asshole but we'll see where they go with it.

>Moonbase 8

I marathoned the first season at work and it was okay. There were some parts that were pretty funny, but it did get a bit boring too. I felt like the stronger episodes were at the end though. My favourite episode was probably the one where they meet the SpaceX crew or the one with the test where one guy has to shoot the other and they get angry at each other.

It reminded me a bit of Last Man on Earth when I was watching it in the way it was trying to find its humour, and how it was more of a character show about how a small group interacts with each other every day, but I liked Last Man on Earth quite a bit more. Not a bad show, but there were too many average moments to call it great.

I started watching Home Movies recently. I never gave it a chance in the past, but watched an episode at like 5:30AM when I was in the hospital a few months ago and I decided to put it on my "list". I finally torrented it recently and I've been watching it here and there after work. Funnier than I expected.

God damn i was not prepared for the feels. Went into this pretty much blind other than hearing online hype about it when it first came out a few months ago. Love Cage already so knew i would enjoy it even if it sucked. But oh man, this has got to be one of his best performances since Leaving Las Vegas. He really captures this specific melancholy and desperation that is unique to our time. The examination of this dark underbelly of the food scene and the setting of modern Portland actually adds to the tension of the film really well, But man, this shit is dark, darker then i was expecting it to be honestly. Overall it lived up to the hype for me.

Doom Patrol season 3 dropped the first three episodes at the same time.

>Episode 1
Dropping three episodes at once, but the first episode was the finale of last season. They couldn't film it because of COVID. It was a bit of a letdown, but it felt like they basically wanted to wrap up all the loose ends from season 2 as quickly as possible and get started on the new plot.

>Episode 2
A lot better. This episode felt like it was back on track and went pretty fast. I did find it enjoyable, but it was more of a character-focused episode rather than the villian-of-the-week episodes they do sometimes.

>Episode 3
This might have been one of my favourite episodes of the whole show. The Dead Boy Detectives are so great together and this is meant to be an introduction for a new show, like how Doom Patrol was featured in Titans. If so, I think I'll really enjoy it as long as they keep the same actors. It looks like it'll be another character-driven team show like Doom Patrol, but with more focus on supernatural/ghosts rather than just weird/abstract stuff.

The trailer for episode 4 looks great as well. I hadn't watched the show since the second season finale aired and I was wondering if I just had rose-tinted glasses when I remembered it being good, but no, I just love the show.

The great thing about this show is that while it's technically a capeshit show, that aspect always takes a backseat. It's more about the trauma of these incredibly broken people and the weird situations they keep finding themselves in while on the road to recovery.

Yeah that's why I think Dead Boy Detectives might actually work if it is a pilot, since it seemed to be presented in the same way as "people drawn together because of circumstances" with the focus on the characters rather than the mysteries and stuff. Or maybe it's just because they had the Doom Patrol writers writing the episode.

Watched 6 episodes of the new season of AP Bio. I think the first episode is the weakest of the season so far, but the rest have all been good, with the last one (Love, for Lack of a Better Term) being great. It's been a while since an episode had me invested in how a side-character's story turns out, and it being done in a 20-minute comedy show is pretty good.

Watched the season finale of Ted Lasso. I thought it was a good season but not as good as the first season, which was a very high bar that was set that would have been hard to surpass and garnered all those awards. There were some storylines that I felt didnt quite stick the landing and others that turned out much differently than I thought they would. also holy shit Nate turned heel and joined West Ham United bah gawd

Also the latest episode of Only Murders in the Building was good and the stuff with Oliver, Charles and Mabel's new podcast fans was hilarious shit like Oliver directing them to show how Tim Kono died. It's a good quality mystery comedy that's somewhat similar to Bored to Death. Now watching Sex Education season 3.

Like Dave is cashing in on saying something he knows will piss people off and get everyone talking about it, and he knows a bunch of people will clap because he's "speaking the truth". Nothing he said truth-wise was an original thought, and joke wise it felt pretty lazy.

Not sure what to make of Ted Lasso season 2. It's a bit like the Office for me in the sense I only actually like one or two characters. With the Office I only like Michael and Andy and with Ted Lasso I only like Ted. Those characters were/are funny enough for me enjoy the show but there's things about TS that do my head in. The woman and 3 lads in the pub are annoying characters, the fact the actual football was non existent this season, Roy Kent and his daft voice, Rebecca's best mate, the child actors.. If these were actual people I'm almost certain I'd dislike all of them instantly. I also find it a bit weird that everyone I know irl who has seen this show doesn't even care for Ted but they love the stuff with Ron and his niece or the romance shit

Roy is definitely my favorite character. I like the way he carries himself as this rugged veteran of the game with a hardened exterior but has heart on the interior, which is why Roy forgave Jamie for telling Keeley he still had feelings for her and he didn't get mad at Nate for kissing Keeley either, and he has some good one liners too. I do wish the show had shown more of Higgins this season though.

It was bordering on being sappy in season 1, but it felt sort of geuine still and I enjoyed it. Season 2 has gotten way too corny for me, and I'm starting to hate everyone except for Ted and a couple other characters who barely get screen time.

Keeley is actually insufferable and I liked the boss lady more when she was kind of a bitch. Nate ended up being one of the better written characters even though he's a spineless cunt while also having an inflated ego. Which I know people like this, pretty realistic character and Roy is just overacting a bit too hard

I watched Werewolves Within last night. It's a loose adaptation of the video game but I thought it was a good horror comedy and not surprisingly the highest rated video game movie adaptation on RT now. I liked Sam Richardson from his roles on Veep and this past season of Ted Lasso but he was great in the lead role and Milana Vayntrub does have comedic acting chops not just being the AT&T Girl and had good chemistry with him.

It was pretty great on the big screen. The 2 hour 43 minute runtime was unnecessary, but I guess when you're trying to tie up every loose end while introducing new characters, it was inevitable. Craig and Seydoux also don't have the best chemistry, particularly in a relationship that's framed as pivotal. Thought Craig was still great though

Finished the new season of You. I feel like this show has become a tongue-in-cheek dark comedy, which protects this show from being either too dark or making you too desensitized to the shit Joe does, but it's one of these shows that you pretty much have to throw out your suspension of disbelief for. I mean compared to Dexter, Joe is hilariously bad at being an unintentional serial killer, all the other characters are insufferable, and it’s amusing watching the extent to which he just keeps getting away with it through the combination of endless luck and everyone else being a dumbass. Not sure where they'll go with it next season now that Joe killed Love and he's in Paris now but I'm sure they'll come up with something.

Just watched the movie Masked And Anonymous (2003)

This movie was panned by critics like saying Chicago Sun-Times critic Roger Ebert gave the film a 1/2 star (out of a possible four) rating, and deemed it "a vanity production beyond all reason".[6] A number of reviewers commented on Dylan's acting, writing that he appeared "near-catatonic" and that he stared "in mute incomprehension", "never speaking more than one line at a time" and only making remarks that "evoke the language and philosophy of Chinese fortune cookies"

This movie spoke to me immediately. Like having a motion movie move to a secret word behind the scene with them. Totally in the spirit of the thoughts of Dylan and I laughed about the critics not even coming close to getting it..

Penn Badgley is solid, but the writing is so stilted, and yeah, all the other characters are insufferable. Might be worth sticking with just to see what wild plot tangents and shit Joe gets up to but Idk. I remember thinking the first season was decent popcorn television

Saw No Time to Die today. Pretty action packed as one expects for a James Bond film though killing off Felix Leiter and Bond was a surprise. Like there wasn’t much storyline continuity between the films until Daniel Craig became Bond and it was more interconnected but I guess each Bond has its own continuity then.

>>420766
The writing is not the show’s biggest strength but I do find Joe’s narration to be entertaining and the strength of Penn Badgley’s acting helps carry the show. The second season is good albeit different from season 1 but I’d give it a shot to see how to plays into season 3.

>I remember thinking the first season was decent popcorn television

It did air on Lifetime for the first season before it got canceled and moved to Netflix, which for Lifetime was actually the best thing it made so their loss is Netflix’s gain.

>Its a decent adaption, that either anime fans will hate or non anime fans will think its mediocre
How can it be a decent adaptation if the only people who won't hate it are the people who aren't familiar with what it's being adapted from? Assuming you meant to say reimagining, then it still sucks. With as many options as there are for things to watch these days, mediocre might as well mean shitty enough to skip. And this was a far ways below "mediocre"
If they don't want to be compared to the original, here's a tip for them: Just release the same shitty story they came up with as an original IP, then the production won't have a more successful version to draw immediate comparisons to. But no, they want to use a familiar franchise name to get free word of mouth discussion, and they act shocked when it's recognized as a shitfire. Fucking cowards with no faith in their own creative abilities, all of them.

Just sifted through The Tomorrow War, and for one of the most expensive movies ever made I can fathom how redundant the whole thing was. Like lets make a cure with one other person in under 24 hours without first sedating the alien then ask some school children for their help in solving the problem. If they are going to waste everyone's money on expensive scenes at least get a real plot happening. Amazon for teen/children money wasters.

I was really disappointed with the last season of F is for Family. A lot of fans of the show seem happy but I think the laughs dried up a bit after season 3

I finished off the first season of 30 Rock too. I found some of it hilarious, but it feels like every line is a gag or reference which is fine but I feel like I miss things if I don't give it my full attention

Finally finished No time to die. It's like the Titanic at the end, there was enough debris and room to get up on with drowning, James Bond could've just rolled down the ditch and run towards the ocean and escaped all those l precision bombs with enough time. Leave the series in an un-bond way.

I saw it in theaters a couple months ago, and the ending has only become stranger to me since. I guess that has to do with Fukunaga wanting to try something new, but it just seems out of place, in contrast to Skyfall which innovated in certain areas but definitely still felt like a Bond film. Part of me thinks Craig wanted to make very clear to audiences that he wasn’t doing another fucking Bond film lol. Tbh I would have been find with the simple but nice ending in Spectre

I think it was kinda dumb that he coulda pulled some Bond shit and escaped but I would've appreciated if his sacrifice was greater, he just sorta gave up. I was totally waiting for him to use him watch at the last second and EMP all the bombs and wash up on shore in the postcredits.

>Godless

I haven't watched a Western series since Hell on Wheels but I do like Jack O'Connell and Scoot McNairy and heard good things about the show so I gave it watch. Man it was fucking great and Jeff Daniels played such a great villain in Frank Griffin. The other thing too that I noticed that I felt that made this show stand out from other Westerns is its female cast especially Michelle Dockery and Merritt Wever's roles as Alice and Mary Agnes. That final shootout in the last episode was really well done but I was disappointed that Whitey was the first person to die since I wanted him to go out in a blaze of glory instead of dying from one knife throw. Probably should give Deadwood a watch.

>Narcos: Mexico season 3

And speaking of Scoot McNairy, I also watched the final season of Narcos: Mexico. Like the final season of Narcos, it may not be as intriguing as the first two seasons since each of those were focused on Pablo Escobar and Felix Gallardo but I thought this was more intriguing than Narcos' final season. Especially given that 1994 was such a pivotal year in Mexican history, which I thought the show did a good job with highlighting the major events (Luis Colosio's assassination, the Mexican peso crisis, the death Juan Jesús Posadas Ocampo, etc.) in the backdrop of a drug war between the Tijuana and Sinaloa Cartels with McNairy's character Walt Breslin being caught in the middle of it.

>Hawkeye Episodes 1-4

Got caught up on Hawkeye and it's alright so far but it's easier to follow plotwise and not all over the place like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Right now I'm watching the final season of F is for Family and Big Mouth season 5.

>Don't Look Up

Finally watched this. It has quite the all-star cast and performances especially from Leo, J-Law and of course Meryl Streep and I liked the film's message of the dangers of politicizing shit people that are legit issues and at times felt like an allegory to how we politicize being vaccinated against COVID-19 for instance. In any event, I didn't expect this film to have a happy ending and it was rather a series of things that could have easily been prevented but money and politics impeded everything. I do wish Adam McKay would go back to doing comedies since he seems better at it than the films he's doing now.

>Hawkeye Episodes 5 and 6

The show became predictable once we found out that Eleanor had hired Yelena to take out Clint and that Kingpin was behind it all but I thought it was fine for what it was and there were some cool action sequences in the last two episodes and giving us closure about Clint coming to terms with Natasha's death and Yelena sparing his life after he told her what happened. I felt like there weren't as many big surprises and wasn't as action packed as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier but I thought the plotting and storyline was easier to follow and much more grounded.

Right now I'm catching up on season 9 of Letterkenny before season 10 comes out tomorrow.

Dave Gorman's Googlewhack Adventure is a solid one, especially for UK comedy fans.

In early internet, a googlewhack was two words that yielded one search result exactly. A true story of a man who goes on an extremely accidental quest (initially fueled by an alcohol blackout) to meet those he discovers as googlewhacks, and has them then find their own googlewhacks, whom he then must meet. A strangely gripping, funny, and unexpectedly touching (Christmas-ie?) tale.

>Pumping Iron

I've heard about this doc but didn't get around to watching it till now but this is an all time classic documentary. Just seeing the contrast of training and personalities between Arnold and Lou Ferrigno helped tell the story and seeing how popular bodybuilding was back in the 70s and how it became big in the 80s off the heels of this doc (and subsequently Vince trying and failing at creating the WBF). I laughed pretty hard at when Arnold talked about how pumping iron was like cumming.

>Foxcatcher

My cousin got me to watch this with him but it was worth it. I had heard about John du Pont and his murder of Dave Schultz but I wasn't too familiar with the background and Dave's brother Mark but god Steve Carell really nailed the creepiness of John du Pont, one of his finest dramatic performances. I know Channing Tatum said this was one of the hardest roles he had to prepare for and he really shined here as did Mark Ruffalo.

Great choice. The acting was great especially from Clive Owen and Andre Holland but the medical scenes were so fucked up and hard to watch as accurate as it was back in the early 1900s. Also Cliff Martinez's soundtrack fucking ruled. I know Steven Soderbergh said that a new season was in development led by Barry Jenkins and Holland but I assume it'll end up being on HBO Max since Cinemax doesn't have original programming anymore.

>Letterkenny season 10

Finished the latest season that just came out and it was entertaining as usual. Dyck Meat was probably my favorite episode though any episode consisting of Dyck puns never fails to make me not laugh and Reilly and Jonesy's butt twerking VidVoks were weirdly mesmerizing to see and I did get a kick out of them being pissed off about losing in Chel. I can't think of another show on TV right now that has such good dialogue and wordplay. I'm interested to see how Jared and Jacob will be able to pull off this Shoresy spinoff considering he doesn't show his face unless they'll reveal it on the show.

>Free Guy

As a video gamer, I was throughly entertained by this film and having the movie being from the perspective of an NPC made for a fun film and Ryan Reynolds' versatility as a comedy and action star helps elevate the film. Same with Taika Waititi being the film's antagonist but he's truly a jack of all trades of acting, producing and directing with consistent successes. I'd totally play Free Life it was real.

>Reservation Dogs S01E01-3 - F*ckin' Rez Dogs, NDN Clinic & Uncle Brownie

And speaking of Waititi, he's the co-creator of this show with Sterlin Harjo of the Native American sketch comedy group 1491s. What impresses me the most about the show is its authenticity of its setting, being the first TV series to be filmed in Oklahoma, and of Native American life through the eyes of its teenage protagonists whose chemistry makes you sympathize with their struggle of trying to make money committing crimes and trying to escape their shitty lives on the reservation. The show's humor and surreal moments reminds me of Atlanta but it's definitely worth watching.

>Euphoria S02E01 - Trying to Get to Heaven Before They Close the Door

Been waiting for this show to come back after those two specials in 2020/2021 but the season premiere delivered especially in regards to Fez, who's one of the show's most interesting characters. I did like how they highlighted Fez's past being raised by his drug dealing grandma and her influence on his drug dealing and relationship with his adopted younger brother Ashtray. There were like two intense scenes in there like Fez, Tray, Rue and Fay all had to strip for that paranoid drug dealer and then Nate trying to hold off on Maddy coming into the bathroom and avoid being caught since he had sex with Cassie. I was surprised Cassie hid in the bathroom and didn't get caught. At least we got to see Rue almost die but not thanks to Adderall and then reconcile with Jules but who knows how long that'll last. I also marked for Fez making good on his word and beating the fuck out of Nate. Looking forward to this season though.

Tom Green just released his fucking classic 1 hour Japan special today.

It is comedy gold. Think a lot of people have gotten much more interested in Japan since it was released so it's all the more prescient and interesting. Annoys countless Japanese people who have no recourse to shame someone who doesn't understand Japanese... Traps a monkey in his van... Fellates Santa Claus to the extreme embarrassment of the employees manning the store it's associated with... It's really got it all. It's Tom Green at his prime before he developed a conscience, the inspiration to Eric Andre and many others.

>The mid-season stuff was superfan-only though. To tide over the teens who are waiting

Agreed, though there were some key plot points that I think will come into play for season 2 in regards to Rue and Jules' relationship since they both talked about how Rue's drug use affected their relationship and given that they reunited and confessed their feelings to each other in the season premiere, I think this stuff is gonna come back to bite them. If you remember in Rue's episode, she tried to blame Jules for her relapse after being left at the train station but Ali rightfully pointed out that Rue had been saving the pills she took implying that she was never serious about staying clean and that she never determined and acknowledged her relationship with Jules. And in Jules episode, she admits Rue is the only person she believes loved her for who she truly is, but admits resenting the burden of having to preserve Rue's sobriety by being constantly available to her. It's also personal to her too since Jules' mom was a recovering addict that relapsed and that Jules' feelings about Rue are similar to those she has about her mother.

God damn, can we talk about tonight's episode of Euphoria? Someone give Zendaya another Emmy because that entire episode was intense. Interventions are fucking tough but when someone like Rue is that irrational and already relapsed, I can't imagine how that can affect friends and family and I think they captured that aspect really well. Like the scene with Jules was really sad but you can see how upset Rue was given that Jules left her but she was trying to do the right thing at least for Elliot's sake. Apparently this episode took a month to shoot but the on foot chase scenes were very frantic but shot really well.

I was also not ready for Rue bringing up Cassie fucking Nate behind Maddy's back. Like I knew it was gonna come out but I didn't expect it being Rue to deliver it. Maddy's gonna fucking kill Cassie and Nate now and not to mention she's got the blackmail of Cal fucking Jules so you bet she's gonna use that against Nate eventually.

I finally boarded the Euphoria season two hype train and watched two episodes. I'll completely be honest, this episode made me tear up a little bit, and it's very hard to make me react like that. With Katt's inner dialogue, it accurately portrays why women with low self esteem are often dissatisfied with men who treat them well.

I also did think that inner-dialogue was a critique of the influence that girlboss positivity spouting influencers have on girls' body image and mentality. Good scene nonetheless.

I did watch the latest episode from last night and I liked that they followed up Lexi and Fez's conversation from the season premiere with them bonding over Stand By Me and becoming unlikely friends. Interested to see where they go with that. Though Faye and Custer's conversation does make me think that Fez and Ashtray are gonna get arrested if the police connect them to Mouse's death.

There wasn't as much of a focus on Rue this week but from little there was good and her suffering the effects of withdrawal and her conversation apologizing to Ali was sad to watch. Though at least they showed some happiness with Ali helping cooking for Rue's family and sympathizing with Gia having to put up with Rue and telling Leslie to not forget Gia.

That whole scene with Nate threatening to kill himself in front of Maddy to get back the tape of Cal raping Jules was really fucked up but I guess with Cal out of his life, giving Jules back the tape, and being with Cassie maybe will do him some good but the dude is a complete sociopath but honestly I feel like his portrayal of being a sociopathic jock is better and more layered than Bryce Walker on 13 Reasons Why.

Great episode. I'm not sure how I feel about Lexi outing Nate's sexuality like that (Even though he's an abuser/asshole) but the finale should be pretty crazy. Cassie looks like she's going into Carrie mode with that look on her face.

It was a phenomenal episode from a production standpoint and East Highland High must have a very big drama production budget because that dance number to end the show was absolutely epic and I was marking out hard for that, props to Ethan for his role in Lexi’s play. I wasn’t surprised Nate was pissed off about it since it’s making him confront shit about himself he doesnt want to deal with especially with the fucked up shit that Cal recorded that Nate uncovered and made the sociopath that he is now.

I really did enjoy the format of the episode though with how this play is a way for Lexi to process the shit he had to deal with in Rue’s drug problems, which made Rue recognize how much it’s affecting not just her mom but also her sister and friends, and that Lexi’s memories of her dad are much different than Cassie’s memories from season 1. The finale should be really big I hope given that Cassie is gonna break bad on Lexi given that Nate left her as he was the only thing from keeping her from going off the deep end and Fez and Ashtray are probably gonna get raided by the cops because of Custer being an informant.

>Euphoria S02E08 - All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned for a Thing I Cannot Name

That was quite a season finale especially the scenes with Fez and Ash. Even if Ash didn't kill Custer for being a snitch with Fez taking the fall, Fez was still gonna get arrested either way. The whole scene with the SWAT team shooting it out with Ash with Fez pleading with him to stop was gut wrenching though I did like Ash playing dead and then shotgunning one of the officers as one final fuck you. Also in the end, Faye was actually helpful to Ash and Fez though her association with Custer would be their downfall.

I did like how the play ended up being a mirror held up to Rue to see how her actions affected Lexi like her eulogy at her dad's wake and her conversation with Lexi about loss and stuff. Even if Cassie tried to interrupt her play (her getting pissed at her play counterpart riding the carousel horse was hilarious), she was right to be upset about it.

I think the one thing I felt disappointed by was the resolution to Nate and Cal's storyline. Like Nate confronted Cal with a gun and a flash drive of all this recorded encounters and told him how watching that stuff at 11 messed him up and that all he ever wanted was his dad's love but never got it, I wasn't surprised by that since that's what we as an audience knew before that but I thought there would be more to that.

Watching the "The Dropout". As someone that's been following this case for the past couple of years, its a shame the producers went the sympathetic route to make Elizabeth look as if she was going to be a game changer in the medical world, when early on testing her head engineer "who committed suicide mind you" told her it just would work.

Clearly Romanizing/white-washing the whole ordeal, even after she defrauded people for over 10 years, it stills tries to maker her look like she's doing somethin good. What garbage.

Finished season 1 of Succession. The show's writing and performances are really good especially from Kendall and Logan and can see why it's been winning awards as of late. I do like the show's dynamic of Connor/Kendall/Shiv/Roman how their actions reflect on Logan's leadership and fatherhood and Waystar RoyCo. There's a lot of moral ambiguity with the show's characters and that they're not necessarily likeable, well Greg sort of is being the outsider of the immediate Roy family, but their characterizations are developed well over the course of the season and gives them depth to their personalities and their motivations of their actions. I thought the ending of Kendall getting into a car accident and leaving the scene of the crime like Ted Kennedy and then it being used as leverage for Logan to turn the tables to avoid a hostile takeover was master class.

I also watched the first four episodes of Severance and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4. Severance is pretty good so far and I like how they're building the tension and unraveling mystery behind Lumon and the severance procedure. Mrs. Maisel is more of the same but the dialogue and performances still make it worth watching.

Needed something funny to watch, didn't want to do a comfy rewatch and I feel like I've seen every comedy/cartoon you could imagine except pic related and Space Ghost. I was really hoping they'd do the job and thankfully Duckman has. I've only watched 8 episodes but it's definitely my jam. Already stole a few lines and used them on friends. Not checked out Space Ghost yet

Also rewatching the Shield. Only watched the first season and it was pretty good. I only remember the fates of a few characters and not much about the storylines so we'll see if it holds up

Before that I watched a few episodes of Millennium which was interesting. Feels like something to watch at 1 in the morning for some reason. I watched a few episodes of Angel too. Not sure if I'll keep watching. I watched it the same time Buffy was on TV but I don't remember like it as much

Oh and I rewatched the first season of True Detective, which obviously wasn't as hype as the first time but damn that was some good fucking TV. The last episode could have done with more time or something I guess. Are the other seasons worth watching? 2 sounds trash but heard good things about 3

True Detective S2 has its moments but the overall plot is pretty convoluted and the setting and story aren't very original. Had to force myself through the first 3 or so episodes before it grabbed me.

S3 is pretty good, uses a similiar format as S1. One thing I personally didn't like is that the overall mystery takes a bit of a backseat and isn't as compelling as in S1.

Just watched the first couple of ep's of Halo, and my word Paramount + Steven Spielberg's tiny wiener thinks it can stack up against Disney with Star Wars. Asteroid fields are many kilometres apart and stupid computer game nonsense needs to be left to die in the game, ugly aliens in the game to shoot at in the first place, that's it for me, it's a beta child's mess and I didn't know they played these old computer games. Watched The Dropout. Elizabeth Holmes was so fucking delusional that her one drop of blood running hundreds of tests shit could even work and change the world but she ran a very long con until it didn't work anymore. Amanda Seyfried played her well though with the mannerisms and the fakeass baritone voice.

I then watched WeWork: or The Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn and then the first two episodes of WeCrashed and Jared Leto does a good job capturing Adam Neumann's essence in WeCrashed though I can't unsee Tom Hiddleston as Loki with a Jewish accent. Unlike Theranos, at least WeWork worked and had upended the co-working model and WeWork itself seemed like a fun place to be before Adam left but the problem was Adam was a very impulsive and eccentric CEO and they were expanding too quickly. COVID also did change the perception of working remotely compared to being at the office. He sure is charismatic as fuck though.

As a longtime fan of Halo, I'm glad there's finally an adaptation on screen since that Halo movie Neill Blomkamp was supposed to direct got canceled. I understand having a different continuity, or Silver timeline, for the show separated from the games, comics, books, etc. but the changes they made feel so jarring to me. At least they got the sound effects and stuff right but it's so weird how much they're humanizing Master Chief and having him not wear his armor and helmet but there's only so much you can do with that as The Mandalorian has shown us. The stupidest thing is having Makee being raised by the Covenant and basically being set up as the show's villain.

A follow up to this post >>421701. I finished seasons 2 and 3 of Succession and the rest of season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. For Succession, Tom is one sneaky sellout motherfucker for ratting Shiv, Kendall and Roman to Logan but he's gotta protect his ass and I always got the feeling that his feelings were never really reciprocated by Shiv and he wasn't as comfortable with having an open marriage than she was. As for Mrs. Maisel, I thought season 4 was better than 3 and Abe continues to be the show's best character but I do like what they've set up for the final season with Midge trying to take Lenny's advice, Susie becoming a bigger manager for more than just Midge, and Moishe having Joel to get Mei to convert to Judaism.

And has anyone watched Severance? Season finale was yesterday but that episode was so fucking great with Helly, Irving and Mark's innies on the outside and the tension of how long Dylan could keep the overtime contingency on. At least it was on long enough for Mark to tell everyone that Gemma was still alive. Ben Stiller did a great job with directing and I wouldn't be surprised if he got an Emmy for it and the show's atmosphere and vibe definitely helped elevate it.

Watched the first three episodes of the second half of Ozark season 4. Ruth killing Javi was obviously coming but it's funny how suddenly and easily it just happened like that but I suppose there's much more of a focus the fallout from his death of killing the Byrdes' chances at a plea deal is getting interesting especially with Marty having to go to Mexico on Omar's behalf and Ruth one-upping Wendy with taking the deal with Clare.

Also I thought this was a pretty cool scene about Nas' classic album Illmatic. Shit was so cash that they used the soundtrack to illustrate Ruth's mentality and what she'd been through and Killer Mike there to discuss it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1TA1q1g4JI

Holy shitballs did i pick the perfect time to start the second season. It's hard to explain but very few shows out rn imo are as genuinely life-affirming and hopeful as this. Its also fucking hilarious in a Nathan For You/I Think You Should Leave-kind of way. With all the negativity surrounding us this can be a great to decompress from it all and not escape but rather actually feel uplifted about being human after watching. Only complaint is i wish there were more episodes per season. But if you are a fan of T&E, Nathan Fielder and Connor O'Malley (who both produce the show) you'll probably enjoy this. And even if you're not this is a good show to watch when you need cheering up after a bad day (or bad decade)

Watched episodes 5-7 of Halo. 5 and 7 were pretty action packed towards their respective ends though Jackals being able to use energy swords looked weird as hell. Chief hijacking that Banshee was awesome though. I did also like Kwan Ha sticking someone with the plasma grenade. 6 was okay but I don't know what to think of Chief and Makee somehow being interconnected to those presumably Forerunner artifacts that lead to Halo.

Also finished Season 4 Part 2 of Ozark. I was pretty disappointed with the series finale especially killing off Ruth and have the show basically boil down to "The Byrdes are rich and evil and are untouchable." Like that whole car crash at the beginning of the season was just a red herring and they basically no sold the crash. I also felt like Wendy and Marty's relationship was an inverse of Walter and Skyler's on Breaking Bad considering Marty actually ended up being the lesser of two evils even though he was just as complicit in their dealings with the cartel and Wendy basically broke bad with her political ambitions and shit. Ruth was based though and Julia Garner will probably win another Emmy.

Rewatched the 2003 remake of Freaky Friday at my friend's insistence as I hadn't seen it since after it had initially come out. I have a much better appreciation for Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan's (before her career fell off) performances now than I did 20 years ago because being able to act as someone else's personality and pull it off with such humor is quite an accomplishment. Could have done without the overt stereotypical oriental mysticism for the transformation scene though.

I saw Everything Everywhere All At Once yesterday and it absolutely is film of the year already. It's going to be very hard for any other film to top it and I can't think of any other film that's really tackled the multiverse concept better than this and like Turning Red, also being able to dissect the North American Asian mother/daughter relationship with finesse. Daniels' directing was top notch and one of Michelle Yeoh's best performances of her career, a hell of a acting comeback performance for Ke Huy Quan, and a breakout performance for Stephanie Hsu. And Curtis was also great in this one too.

Watched the last two episodes of Halo season 1. I can't say that I'm a fan of Chief have sex with Makee (with Cortana basically watching) nor the storyline of them being connected through the keystone and stuff. I guess the one thing about this show I give them credit for in comparison to the games is giving Chief more emotional depth. I did at least like the battle scene between Silver Team and the Covenant on Hesduros and they're at least faithful to how the weapons sound and operate in the games and taking shield damage/recovery. It's alright as a sci-fi series even if it's not always easy for me to reconcile the show's continuity with the games' continuity but it's whatever, guess I'll tune in to see what happens next season.

I enjoyed and found humor in the aspects of how the film's multiverse works like with having to perform a certain action (like jump onto a buttplug) in order to versejump.

Just watched the new Elvis movie, was okay, honestly had expected more. Austin Butler certainly has the face but seemingly not half the personality needed to play Elvis and Tom Hanks has been phoning it in for what feels like the last 15 years and he hasnt changed his ways here. Good directing, but character wise a dud. Also the need to shove in race relations and politics felt misplaced here, should have focused on either Elvis or that, though the story about black musicians during that time would probably have been the better movie.

Coincidentally watched movies with spider in them:

>Spiderhead

I thought the concept of the film was interesting especially concerning the ethics of testing drugs on prisoners and Chris Hemsworth playing a villain was different but enjoyable but I felt that the execution was a miss. The twist that Spiderhead is actually being run by Steve's pharmaceutical company instead of the prison system was not that surprising. Nathan Jones is in it at least so we'll probably show that for At the /wooo/vies at some point.

>The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2

Watched these after watching No Way Home, I actually liked these compared to the MCU Spider-Man. At least like the first Spider-Man film (gonna watch 2 and 3 later) and unlike the MCU trilogy, they showed how Peter Parker got his powers though the way he gets them in The Amazing Spider-Man is different and how he shoots his webs are synthetic rather than organic. I do think Tobey Maguire is a better Spider-Man though Andrew Garfield is pretty good in his own way and I thought the action was pretty good and didn't feel like CGI overkill like the MCU films are these days. The only thing I wish they had done was save Green Goblin for a potential third film but I assume that's why he was introduced in 2 the way that he was.

I thought that Amazing Spiderman was pretty alright as well, too bad for Andrew Garfield here that Toby Macguire was perfectly cast for the original role so Garfield didnt really get recognition he deserved.
Honestly I feel that this is always the issue with doing late sequels or reboots of really good and popular movies, they have to mix up the formula and do something different which makes it very difficult to be as good as the originals to which they naturally always will be compared. I mean why not? If you have the choice some years after release? If someone where to ask me what Spiderman movie they should watch Id immediatly go for the Sam Raimi ones and say the others are nice to have but probably a letdown otherwise.

While Garfield is good and the action as well, the villains are mostly an afterthought in comparison and Emma Stone gives a good example of why she is overrated, her love story with Garfield is a dud and Macguire and Kirsten Dunst did their thing a million times better.

>Also the need to shove in race relations and politics felt misplaced here

Hate to break it to you but Rock n Roll in the 1950s was inseparable from those issues. It's not "woke" to acknowledge the reality of the time period.

Yeah its one thing acknowleding it and another making the movie about Elvis for the most part about this, at least for basically two thirds of the movie. As Ive said before the history of rockn roll and race relations during that time isnt unintersting and would actually merit a movie of its own but I went and expected a movie about Elvis and really didnt get all that much of it.
Its annoying that directors/producers have to basically false advertise their projects when they decide to make movies with a different focus on a female lead or about historically underrepresented minority groups because they fear their movies flopping, I just wish they would be more honest about it so we could get better movies.
