/n/ sure is slow when shit doesn't involve the US.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-46492070

There's been some major protests and riots in France the past few weeks. At first it was about gasoline tax, but it has grown into a major protest against how middle to low classes are being fucked by France elites in general. We're talking 24% youth unemployment and basically stagnant growth for wages of lower income families, and they're angry.

And following proper tradition, these protests are ugly with violence against police. Thousands have been arrested.
Interestingly it seems like far-right and far-left are on the same side of this one as well. Macron fucked up, and France is now a pressure cooker.

That was a separate protest last month, farmers were pissed that trade deals flooded the market with cheaper imports, resulting in food prices so low that it's more expensive to harvest than the crops were worth and there was no government intervention, so instead of plowing them under they blocked off traffic, dumped the rotting crops in front of government buildings, and sprayed the buildings with manure.

I'm French. Nice to see a thread about this on /American News&trump/
It's kinda wild, they just won't stop. People just keep on blocking and occupying roundabouts. I don't know what they expected, i live in a very rural area where people are either; poor, rich with 4-6houses that make sure housing stays expensive even though half of the buildings are abandoned, or poor hippies.

I talked with my friendly neighbour woman who had a serious illness a few years ago, so she got help from the state because she was incapable of working, now she got a letter which stated all the sick pay will be stopped in 3-4months.
How the fuck is she going to find a job that fast? She hasn't worked in 6years due to her illness, she is +-55, she can't pay gas, the rent is sucking her dry and school for her kid is expensive. She's pretty resourceful so she'll manage. But that's just one case. All rural public transport ha ceased to exist, no buses except for 1 school bus the train stations are closed and they put FUCKING ROADS IN THE PLACE THE COCKSUCKING ASSHOLES. This is easily the case for at least half of the population here, what is my neighbour going to do who has to live with 200euros a month after paying rent and insurance HE hardly has enough to eat, let alone go to the doctor for his broken back or buy gas at 1.5euro a litre.

They don't have money or the energy to go living in the city and not everyone wants to live in the city because cities are absolutely disgusting

The upside is that there are quite a few young people coming back to the rural areas and do their best to get a local independent economy going but i don't think it will be enough and while I'm not going to the protests they can burn down the whole lot for all i care.

I'm kinda scared of something worse taking place though.

Last time the french brought out the guillotines, it ended with them raising the largest army europe had ever seen and conquering and/or allying every country west of Russia and literally redrawing the map of Europe and also the whitehouse burning down.
Though it's not accurately represented in webm related for some reason.

Damn, that's just depressing to read. At first it was pitched as simple protests against gasoline taxes here in Norway, but learning more about the undercurrents going on here I really feel sympathy for the protesters. I really hope this shit causes some good changes for you guys, and don't go so far that people turn against the protests.

Didn't you guys vote Macron in because he seemed like a good alternative to the elitist status quo of French politicians?

The French owned that bit of land, most of the people there speak German, the Germans took it when they united into one country, then the French took it back in WWII, this really steamed the Nazis and was one of the reasons for WWII.
Nobody has cared since 1945 except for internet reactionaries who jack off to the 2nd Reich though.

Strasbourg the region's main city is one of the two administrative capitals of the EU and the whole area + the Rhineland going north and the low countries is one gigantic pan-european urban core that is way more important to the French and German elites than most of the rest of France or Germany.
Funny enough that's kind of what these protests are about.

No people voted for him because he wasn't Marine Lepen and to be honest, he was the only reasonable candidate. Half of the country didn't even vote, there we're protests all over the day before the voting. People were shouting "no racists, no bankers"

I can't even vote because i still have belgium nationality. And of course Lepen and Melenchon are being disgusting vultures and try to steal the show. Thank god nobody is really paying attention to them anymore.

So the most sun-adverse parts of europe must be the most peaceful, right?
>meanwhile in ireland

It's not that people in northern areas are less prone to riot, but that their states are more socialist and democratic so they better respond to the interests of the people, and their governments don't crack down as hard.

Fuck, Iceland had a revolution when a crowd came out and threw snowballs until the government resigned, then wrote a new constitution, whereas in Spain simply holding a democratic referendum resulted in the state sending riot cops to throw old ladies down the stairs of polling centers.

it's true, many of the protestors are anti-Jewish. In France, antisemitism is kinda semi-mainstream, sort of like being vaguely anti-Muslim is in the US.
Probably the most well-known anti-Jewish figure in France is the comedian Dieudonné Mbala-Mbala, whose stand-up comedy routine was forbidden by the French government. He's been all over these protests:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63ip4WYArL4
As are people like these guys:
https://democratieparticipative.host

Some Jewish members of the French establishment have called for cracking down on the protests with blunt force because of this, but I think that's ill-advised. These protests are pretty popular with the general population, and if Jews are perceived to be instigating state violence against the yellow vests, you could actually end up with a legit pogrom on your hands.

Because people were scared of living in a far right police state fuelled by hate for rap music and immigrants.
But what do we have now?
>police brutality goes without any problems

tl;dr French cops and judicial system are racists etc. comparing an overall good bloke versus a habitual criminal and their penalties. I think. I don't speak French but if you understand English fluently then a lot of other European languages even Russian can be piss easy to figure out. Well, Russian, Finnish, etc not so much.

So what's the alternative to Macron? Better yet... What do people want to achieve with these protests. I understand that people are furious and want change but as usual the problem lies with making that happen which is made harder if there is no clear solution or a leader.

Also as france has been under the EU's and the U.S's thumb for so long that they can't do shit without asking for permission first from their master's

Yea, those surrender monkeys. Seriouysly though, off and on the right has talked about attacking France for no apparent reason. Likely more-so than terrorists.

Trump used, can't always get what you want. By the Rolling Stones. The Stones have, Under My thumb. How many decades have the right wingers whined about
france being 'surrender monkeys for no reason?' Get over it,,,,,,,, they fought ww2
likely better than the us, when it comes down to it.

Seriously, decades by now, the us monkeys have attacked france for no reason.
did you miss it? dude

>So what's the alternative to Macron?
How about a new constitution with a democratic system that doesn't result in the population from choosing between a neoliberal and a fascist?
Such a system is clearly broken.

Besides, average lifespan of a French state over the last 250 years is ~25 years. This one's over 60, isn't it time to upgrade?

Neither of these terrible posts you made give any examples of how France is under the US thumb.
