In Wisconsin, at least a dozen people have recently been hospitalized and treated for severe lung damage. The first cases were reported last month, and the number has been growing. All of these patients are young — between their teenage years and 30s — and all of them appear to have been harmed by vaping.

Wisconsin's Department of Health Services confirmed 12 cases and is investigating 13 others, including older patients up to their 50s who are experiencing lug damage as a result of vaping, according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The hospitalization of at least a dozen young people raises the question: How have e-cigarettes caused so much damage, when they haven't even been around for that long?

"It's mind-boggling," Dr. Diana Zuckerman, president of the National Center for Health Research, told CBS News. "The vast majority of people who smoke started as children or as young teens, and yet you don't hear about people getting lung cancer until their 40s, 50s, 60s," she said. "Think about that compared to what's happening to these kids now. I've never heard of a smoker ending up in the hospital in their teens."

Willing to bet it's because of faulty cheap-ass equipment or some shit. Or just abnormal usage of vaping liquids. Like that retard a few years ago that started eating pure caffeine powder with a soup spoon and died from a caffeine overdose.

One kid admitted to smoking one entire Juul a day, every day. Thats fucking nuts. I've been vaping on the same 60 ml bottle of juice for about 8 months now, only filling up my 4 ml tank up about once a week.

Those Juul pods use nicotine salts instead of regular nicotine suspended in a Pg/vg mix, to better emulate the freebase mechanism of regular cigarettes. This means those fuckers hit harder than normal and are more addicting than a traditional pg/vg mix. The company making them are called Altria, the same parent company that lords over Phillip fucking Morris. It would not surprise me at all to learn that they are intentionally making their own shitty brand unsafer by comparison just to fuck over the growing E juice industry as a big "I TOLD YOU SO" sort of move. Either that or some one fucked up in the QA testing letting some unsafe bullshit hit the market.

Holy shit doing some more digging and I found this gem:
"The amount of nicotine in each cartridge – 59 mg/ml in the United States, limited to 20 mg/ml in the European Union – is substantially more than the majority of e-cigarettes on the market"

Thats fucking nuts and can no way be expected to help people with quitting smoking. Thats almost ten times the amount of nic than I get in my shit. I dont think I can even get 20 mg/ml at the vape shop if I wanted it. Fucking pure nic fluid you'd order off line to mix your own shit is only 5 mg/ml stronger. And they warn you up and down not to try and vape just that alone and have disclaimers and shit saying they wont be held liable if you fucking poison yourself.
>***We do not recommend this product be vaped as is at the higher nicotine levels (60mg and above). Doing so is at your own risk. Most users dilute this product to 24mg or lower for use.

I wonder if today's teens think someone with a juul is as cool as their grandparents thought Steve McQueen was smoking a cigarette. I don't get it.

The stealth is favored. Cig use is too obvious and detectable.

Anyone with eyes can see Steven Dorff is cooler than Steve McQueen.

What a shit article. They should tell us if this is happening elsewhere. They just say all of a sudden in Wisconsin over the course of a month they've had a bunch of cases. That doesn't sound like something normal. They don't even say for sure if all the cases were from Juul pods or how much the average person was using, just one story about one guy who used juul pods.

>one entire Juul a day, every day.
if that means a single cartridge/pod per day... that's not crazy high or anything. i've used a juul before and one pod per day was about my average, they're like a half pack of regular smokes. if anonymous kid meant 'an entire 4-pack of pods' then yeah that's crackhead territory. tbh the true horror of juul is the pods are $16 for a 4-pack.

the big downside of vaping is that it takes a bit of effort to know what the fuck settings to use and some idea of how your device works, and picking a reputable juice with reasonable nicotine content. i'm picturing a bunch of teenagers running their vapes at max power with shitty juice and pretending to be cool despite the fun burning sensation in their chests.

also this is a small sample size in a distinct area. much as news stories are hyping it... doesn't say much about 'vaping' in general. we're still in the same spot effectively, logic says it should be far less damaging than smoking but everyone is still accumulating data so no 'for sure' info.

Lying to yourself about how much you consume is a sign of addiction. Please seek help.

It may be the same amount of nicotine but without the MAOIs in the tobacco it probably hits about the same as a half pack

It's just a gut feeling, but I'm willing to bet these people vaped fake thc oil vapes and the media wants to blame all vaping in general.

You're correct because i'm not going into detail. But my thought process comes from having worked in a vape store for the past two years and paying close attention to current studies.

as someone that vapes, I am not going to sit and here and go into details about shit that you can literally google in seconds. Fuck off with your youtube tier bullshit.
