Once again, if they're undercounting (or exaggerating), why do the numbers match at the end of the week?

Because the whole entire world is all lying?

Counting disease numbers is intrinsically hard. Probably everyone is undercounting, especially in places like the US where centralized oversight is nil and there are fewer tests than really active cases.

WINNING

U S A U S A

On a serious note the death rate is a good way to tell the undercounting. If the expected rate is 5% then a death rate much above that implies that they are only testing relatively severe cases. if the death rate exceeds 90% of resolved cases you can assume that they're not testing people who don't have obvious severe symptoms.

if you make the following assumptions
>the death rate in coronavirus remains 5% in every country
>all cases that kill are picked up

Then you're assuming your deaths are just 5% of the resolved cases.

If you make another assumption, this is the iffiest
>the ratio of tests to active cases has been pretty constant throughout the trajectory

You could divide the death rate by 5% and then multiple total cases by this figure for a rough figure.

If you assume the death rate in a given country is higher it lowers the cases. If you assume some cases aren't picked up it raises total cases. If you assume the tests have ramped up then this means that there's probably less cases than this formula indicates. But lets be honest, the UK and US probably do have somewhere between 3 and 20 times as many cases as reported.

Anyway, the point is US is fucking storming it. Trump is winning death race 2020.

Yeah but the "probably below 1% real fatality rate" talking point is bullshit as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if this gets into the ballpark of WWII, namely 70-80 million.
That would happen with a fatality rate of 3% and 30% of the world population infected.

Okay let me correct that statement
>if the recorded death rate exceeds 90% of resolved cases

Which given everything else I said was about lots of non fatal cases being not recorded would make more sense than you jumping in half cocked like a full Reuben. If you are reporting that 90% of recorded cases kill it doesn't REALLY mean that it's 90% lethal it means that actually you're probably missing 90-95% of your cases.

Can you post a source that doesn't receive state funding?
>details of actual post
Fact is, it simply is not possible to determine the true death rates of an epidemic, while you are in it. You can get models, but the models will be wrong as time goes on. The infection rate though is much easier to quantify, and we can confirm that this is likely the most infectious disease to have hit the modern world.
>real concern
We won't know what the lasting side effects of this are for a long time. I suspect the chinese coronavirus will be causing reproductive harm in males especially, in more severe cases, due to the ACE2 receptor action going on in the TESTICLES! (Yes, this will inflame the testicles, and acute inflammation can cause permanent damage.) That is, along with a bunch of other organs.

Yeah, I know, good luck on that one. NPR for example, state funded... but even if you find one that isn't state funded, it's all pay to play now. If a story isn't about pushing the agenda of the editor, and it's not about pumping the stocks or other assets of the owners of the network, then it's paid for by somebody and it's not the readers. This is the unintended consequence of the financial losses accrued by legacy media and it's become the primary method of funding of new media types as well.
Of all the things I think I could fix somehow, I don't have a clue when it comes to fixing journalism. At least I learned one thing about the news from /biz/ and that's to buy the hype and SELL the story. (ie once the news says something is good, sell all of it. )

The entire thing about "the press" is that it has always, always been an incredibly expensive industry to take part in, more so starting in the 19th century. Anyone who had the money to be able to start a press was somebody with a lot of money, meaning with a heavily vested interest in politics, meaning they had personal motives for their investing hundreds of thousands of dollars into making a newspaper. The entire point of "the press" was to push a narrative.

This isn't a new phenomenon, even as far back as the 60s, Hunter S Thompson wrote about how newspapers across the country revenue sources had completely shifted from subscriptions to advertisements to think tanks paying for their perspectives to be disseminated.
It's not restricted to media either.

Also despite being state funded, NPR has been pretty shitty for the last few years in the way that only liberal news can be where they pretend the absolute furthest left option available is literally what the republicans want but with minor technical changes.

"You don't want to have a conversation, actually you do cause you have a lot to say so just say it, actually just say it but not here in a newspaper or something" is not substance. Crazy Russian bro might be incoherent at times but he's contributing more to these conversations than you are.

He's clearly responding to the one guy who bizarrely thinks NPR is "communist", by asking if heeven knows what that word means and why Americans habitually call random-ass things they don't like "communism".

Maybe you're personally triggered by that sort of conversation, but it's very clearly an attempt at a conversation by directly responding to something said by someone else. And in fact asking for more clarification, which would have required the other party to pariticipate and thus definitionally would have been a conversation, until you derailed this into a non-conversation about non-conversations.

If you want to voice your anger at him then do it honestly, don't pretend you're too dumb to understand what the words "by himself" means. nb

I ask him, or any poltard. Fact you became so much triggered by such question, say to me you probably use such word all of time but too fucking dumb to know what dumb shit from out your mouth even mean. I bet, this first time even some poltard read this and realize, no he does not even know what such thing mean. So, you think PBS is Communism? You think NPR or such thing? Is all media Communism to you? What you think Socialism, Marcism, or Communism even mean? What thing you call such words?
