White House blockades & seizes PPE/ventilators for states, forces them to smuggle

l>Over the last few weeks, it has started to appear as though, in addition to abandoning the states to their own devices in a time of national emergency, the federal government has effectively erected a blockade — like that which the Union used to choke off the supply chains of the Confederacy during the Civil War — to prevent delivery of critical medical equipment to states desperately in need. At the very least, federal authorities have made governors and hospital executives all around the country operate in fear that shipments of necessary supplies will be seized along the way. In a time of pandemic, having evacuated federal responsibility, the White House is functionally waging a war against state leadership and the initiative of local hospitals to secure what they need to provide sufficient treatment.

>On top of that outrage, the Feds are bidding against states who are trying to buy their own supplies, and refusing to interfere in those auctions between states, which have driven prices up by ten times or more. But while you might think that was as bad as federal management of this crisis could be, it is not. This new outrage is deeper: Even those states that are trying to manage their own resources, buying equipment themselves with incredibly scarce resources to aid in a time of crisis, are being stopped, and those resources seized on the way to delivery.

>You could call this piracy. You could call it sanctions. The federal government is choking supply chains to states like it chokes supply chains to Iran and North Korea. These blockades aren’t as complete as those surrounding sanctioned regimes, of course, and some amount of the disruption may be honest confusion in a time of crisis. But the disruption is being brought about by federal interference, and unlike the kind of disruptions you’d want to engineer against antagonistic states, the purpose seems completely unclear — indeed the policy is inexplicable and indefensible.

>Which may be one reason why no explanation has been given. We don’t know where these supplies are going. We don’t know on what grounds they are being seized, or threatened with seizure.

Yeah this story came and went, but we'll be hearing about it later. Everywhere from Chicago to Maranhão was forced to make side deals to get supplies when their federal governments interfered.

Meanwhile, American companies are defrauding and scamming the states out of PPE and ventilators. With the White House refusing to step up and the free market failing yet again, states are being further encouraged to band to together in their regional alliances.

Trump just went and admitted to self-medicate with hydroxychloroquine on live TV.
His brain finally fully melted, he went on rambling about some "doctor" sending him a "letter" how great is was. And he did repeat that several times.

I honestly think he's being dishonest about it to save face. Either that or his doctors are giving him shaved down smarties to look like pills and telling him that's what it is to garner favor and he thinks he's taking hydroxychloroquine. Either way, a lot of OAN watching meemaws and pep-peps are going to have a miserable last few weeks of life following his advice. Even Fox News has advised their viewers it's not a good idea.

If he's getting medications that are in short supply against their indications that's abuse of power. Yes he has the power to get a hold of it, and if he doesn't have COVID-19 and isn't involved in a clinical trial, he shouldn't have it because it's a resource that someone else needs and he's (ab)used his power to get it.

It's simple to make from plants. Any meth lab in the world + 1 hippie herbalist, can make this drug. It's been in use for a very long time, and most of it comes from India where it's produced as an anti-malarial agent. It's essentially the cracked up version of quinine.
Also, I know three different people who have been prescribed it for over a decade. One with lupus and two with arthritis, and they're fine.
Anyhow, nobody here will listen to me. So, this is Dr. Faggot here telling you to make your own decisions and accept the consequences like an adult. Just don't bitch when your bias shows at the worst time.

It's a prophylaxis. It works best if you take it before you're ill. The primary risks associated with the drug are those of interactions with other medications.

No, as evident by everything in 'merica, every american who is not deemed mentally unfit, has that right.

Oh. I got distracted by cookie deliveries and another bowl and then worked in my garden for a while. I think I had intended to start a thread in /other/ about hydroxychloroquine but really, all it would come down to is that hydroxychloroquine is a synthetic derivative of quinine. Hydroxychloroquine is to Quinine how a Roxycontin is to opium(or more accurately, morphine.)
Now, the mechanism of action of these drugs should be easy enough to find (haha, they're not sure, I love my prodrugs with cleaving action) and let's look at Madagascar, a country treating the virus herbally.
So far the primary constituent of their tonic is Artemisia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemisinin#Mechanism_of_action
As of 2018, the exact mechanism of action of artemisinins has not been fully elucidated.[39] Artemisinin itself is a prodrug of the biologically active dihydroartemisinin. This metabolite undergoes cleavage of its endoperoxide ring inside the erythrocytes. As the drug molecules come in contact with the haem (associated with the haemoglobin of the red blood cells), the iron(II) oxide breaks the endoperoxide ring.[40] This process produces free radicals that in turn damage susceptible proteins, resulting in the death of the parasite.[41][42] In 2016 artemisinin was shown to bind to a large number of targets suggesting that it acts in a promiscuous manner. Artemisinin's endoperoxide moiety is however less sensitive to free iron(II) oxide, and therefore more active in the intraerythrocytic stages of Plasmodium falciparum.[43] In contrast, clinical practice shows that unlike other antimalarials, artemisinin is active during all life cycle stages of the parasite.[44]
>what's that
Bet /hooch/ will love some absinthe with that news.
>Under presidential demands, and faced with the promises of chloroquine and the use of artemisia in China against the coronavirus, the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research (IMRA) and the National Pharmacology Research Centre joined forces to conduct studies and set up a research protocol on this plant already known for its virtues against malaria.
>This led to the development of Covid-Organics, an improved traditional remedy made up of artemisia and other endemic medicinal plants, such as ravintsara

So there is likely the better natural version with essentially the same mechanism of action, without big pharma taking all your money. Here's hoping that Madagascar is hailed as savior of the era, that would be an interesting future. Btw, their government is distributing it for free.

So what about all that crap? What's it got to do with anything?
Hugh Snodlock - Tue, 19 May 2020 19:32:46 EST scym3S0N No.185323 Reply
It shows that a whole class of anti-malarial drugs, naturally sourced, not owned by anyone, are likely highly effective against some classes of virus, such as the COVID-19 strain that came out of china. Hydroxychloroquine is a synthetic derivative that is in this family of drugs, has a long history of use, and many of these are all already on the WHO list of essential medicines.
TLDR Madagascar is leading the way in treatments because the rest of the world is fighting over petty political and financial interests.

McConnell's retarded fiscal conservative fuckery might cost the GOP everything this year, even as the Dems throw them slowball after slowball. This is the worst possible time to start caring about the deficit or national debt again, especially since the Fed is going to keep providing emergency liquidity so investors can keep asset values perpetually inflated. If you expect workers and old people to be told to not only sacrifice themselves for GDP growth, but also to expect austerity amidst constant injections of money into the finance sector, and then also to vote for you as you oversee all this happen, you're kidding yourself. But maybe Americans are really this dumb and really just get the government they deserve.

White House friends are scamming indigenous communities out of medical supplies and getting away with it:

Former White House aide won a $3 million federal contract to supply respirator masks to Navajo Nation hospitals 11 days after he created a company to sell them.

247,000 of the masks may be unsuitable for medical use. 130,400 are not the type requested.

In practice "tiny houses" is one step away from a slum.
Do you want slums? Cuz that how you get slums.

I get that precarious circumstances could motivate you to live in something like this and it could help people who are displaced by gentrification. In the long term it would make it worse. Because the people don't own the land and in many cases not even the base structure. And then you'd have companies building the things and renting them out at high profit margins.

No, they're not supposed to be in an urban environment. The point is that you can just plop one of these down anywhere with at least a dirt road, without any consideration for building regs, cheaply (on payments even) and then make something great of the land while you're there.
